VS 2008 Saving File In A Database

Oct 6, 2010

I've got a SQL Server and I need to save files somewhere and I guess I hsave two options

1. Save the file path

2. Save the file in the database.

Issues with option 1 are for complicated reasons the file path is not the same for everyone. I'm talking about saving 200-400 per month, is there any issues with saving them into a SQL Server Database that is used by internal employees only?

VS 2008 Saving Changes To Database

Apr 7, 2009

I have buttons working that cycles through all the records and everything shows up fine. I also made a simple DB program to test what I was doing without all the extra stuff my current program has and it works fine. Updates the dataset and then saves to the database and reflects the changes. When I tried adding it to this program, I get errors when I click "Save" and "Commit".The "Save" (updates DS) error is: "Additional information: Update requires a valid UpdateCommand when passed DataRow collection with modified rows."The "Commit" (commits changes to DB) error is: "Additional information: Syntax error in INSERT INTO statement."Not sure what either of these mean, the same code worked fine in the standalone program. Looking at another site, they show the exact Save error I'm getting and say it's because I don't have a command builder, but it's up there. [code]

How can I save the picture I pick so it updates a database and will show that picture when I cycle through the data in the program? It would be an SQL database and it already has columns for the picture. I don't know if I should store the path to the image or the image itself.

VS 2008 Saving Picture To A Database?

Dec 27, 2009

I've made a code which updates my database using a dataset and data binding source. I can retrieve all fields in the database including the Picture field which is set to OLE Object however I cannot update this. The Picture field in the dataset is set to type System,.Byte. Ive search these forums and found how to do it manually which I can do and works but when it comes to the BindingSource.EndEdit section it still tries to update my Picture field and fails due to a type failure.

It was System.InvalidCastException: Failed to convert parameter value from a Byte[] to a String. ---> What can I do to correct this? Below is my code. Note the image saves under the hard coding but not in the second part of the code.

Dim connection As New OleDb.OleDbConnection(My.Settings.AirportsConnectionString)
Dim command As New OleDb.OleDbCommand("UPDATE Airports SET Picture = @Picture WHERE ID = " & TextBox10.Text, connection)
'Create an Image object.

Saving Image To Database From Picturebox - 2008 / Framework 3.5?

Aug 20, 2010

I have a form containing a listbox showing a list of image names. It's bound to the database table. When an image name is clicked it shows the image and imagename in a picturebox and textbox respectively. When no image is selected in the listbox, a new record can be inserted by browsing a new image in the picturebox by an openfiledialog, writing the imagename in the textbox and pressing the OK button. When an image is already selected, the record can be updated by pressing the same OK button. The data is saved into MSSQL Server 2005. Corresponding table fields are Keycode int autono, logoname nvarchar(50), logo image. Now the problem, when I insert a new data with an image everything goes fine but whenever I try to update an existing data with an image it throws an exception- 'A generic error occurred in GDI+.' at the following line- 'pic.Image.Save(ms, pic.Image.RawFormat)'. Surprisingly when I update an existing data without any image in the picturebox no exception is generated. I have crossed checked it and seems that the problem is just at one point- 'Updating the image from the picturebox'. My code to insert/update the data by OK button and to populate it by listbox doubleclick follows:

Code:
Private ms As MemoryStream
Private arrImage() As Byte
Private conn As SqlConnection

- Make sure the folder that contains the file is not read-only.
- Make sure the file name does not contain any of the following characters:

Ensure that your Main function has STAThreadAttribute marked on it. This exception is only raised if a debugger is attached to the process.
