VS 2008 - Close IO.StreamReader Every Time - Try And Open A New Document ?
Oct 13, 2009
Well it would appear that you need to close IO.StreamReader every time you try and open a new document. So I have tried to do this a variety of ways, with no success. I am open to the option of having it check the same document for the Username, Password, and HWID. (Yes, I know that this is not in any way a secure method to gather data but their is a reason for my madness) Anyways onto the code, I removed the URL (Yes, I did check to make sure they were all valid and worked).
VB Dim wc As New Net.WebClient 'Downloading the list..
Dim hread As New IO.StreamReader(wc.OpenRead("myurl")) 'URL to the list
Dim uread As New IO.StreamReader(wc.OpenRead("myurl")) 'URL to the list

How to comment and uncomment codes at multiple place within my project at the same time?I am using VS 2010 trial version to develop a VB application.Some of functions only should be showed to developer, not to users. So I must comment them and uncomment them many times during the process of development. please note that those codes are located in many locations and many VB files within my project.
Can I do this in a conveninent way, just clicking a button, or just defining a const or "#define something", something like that?

I have a function on my program that allows a user to load a listbox filled with words that are matched with words inside a databank. The databank is filled with 2 string arrays and file of .jpg Pictures. The Arrays attached to each word inside the listbox are approximately one page. Each page is two paragraphs of Text(string Array) and one Picture(20Kbytes).My problem is this. When the user selects the option print all, the listbox with approximately 10255 words is selected and begins to fill a Microsoft Word Document.Because the alotted amount of space needed for the MS Word Document is approximately 5 Gbytes,I need to open about 10 Documents and insert the String Array's and Pictures into each document one at a time.Is there anyway to check the filesize of the Open Document before saving the document.This way I could check the open document inside the algorithm for 512 Mbytes of memory and save the document before the size gets above 512 Mbytes.[code]

I was able to code a sub that opens a StreamReader and Writer. The Reader reads a *.txt file and the Writer modifies it line by line as it's entered into the memory then writes it to a temporary file which is then copied over the file that the Reader read.
The problem is that the StreamReader and Writer seem to fail to close.At first when I tested it I would get an error stating:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object
I put breakpoints in the sub to figure out where it's erroring out and it's erroring out when it does sr.close() and sw.close() (Reader/Writer.close())Here's the code for the sub. Maybe someone can tell me what I did wrong.
Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click
If pDebugMessages = True Then MsgBox("Stream Reader/Writer initialized.", MsgBoxStyle.OkOnly, "Debug")

In a program I'm working on, I want a "Loading..." dialog to close when it can't log in to a site using the username and password provided by the user. Basically, I have the code set up right because the function it is supposed to carry out when that occurs does work, but for some reason it ends up in some really weird stuff happening. In the Loading form, I have it set to do "Form1.Show()" and then "Me.Close()", assuming it would simply show the login form and then close the Loading form. However, when this happens, the Loading form closes, and then for only an instant Form1 shows, and then the Loading form shows and Form1 closes. This happens forever until I stop the debugging, and I can't seem to figure out why. Am I using the wrong method? What exactly does Me.Close() do anyways? All I want to do is close the form and open another

Dont know how easy this would be, but basically I'm just wondering if there is any way in VB.net you can close open files on a remote PC.In my scenario the vb.net app would be running with domain admin permissions in most cases so would have access to things like the remote Computer Management console, which of course has the Open Files section in it which lets you close any open files on the remote machine its connected to.So I fugured there must be some way to do it in vb.net... I just dont know if its going to be more hassle than its worth and I dont really know where to start looking (ive used googled but not had much joy).

I'm a VB newbie and am trying to figure out the StreamReader function.
I need to read data from a text file which consists of several lines which each contain a number and a name (eg "634 John").
I can manage to read entire lines at a time but is there an easy way to read in one "word" at a time without using the peek function?

I have a problem with a streamreader in visual basic 2008.I am updating a database from text files on an ftp server. The streamreader works fine until the file is more than 100,000 bytes long.It reads until it reaches this point and then just ends. No error message, it just reads to this point which happens to be 2 fields out of 6 in the database stream. My question is - does the streamreader have a limit? And if so what is a workaround?
Dim connString As String = "Data Source=" & pDataBase
conn = New SqlCeConnection(connString)
Dim strQuery As String = ""[code]......

I'm writing a program that basically loads an entire text file into a streamreader variable, then reads this variable line by line and parses and writes a line into a new text file. I'm VERY new and my knowledge is mostly self-taught, but I can't seem to get out of this one. It works for smaller files, but it appears to reach a limit in characters at some point because in a file of 900 lines, it stops writing about halfway through 800 and there are no errors, the program actually completes and the message box pops up.
There are a few things with this code I already know I should fix, such as creating the new text file name, it's messy, I just don't know how.
Private Sub btnProcess_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnProcess.Click
Dim IndexValues As String()

I have an issue with an Office addin I'm working on, which is implemented for Office 2003 & 2007. The addin is written in VB.NET 3.5 using VSTO.The problem comes from some external code which automates a mail merge, opening the mail merge template, merging and then closing the template document. The close is done with this code:
objWord.Documents(sDoco).Close SaveChanges:=wdDoNotSaveChanges, OriginalFormat:=wdPromptUser
Because of some logic in my addin, instigated from the Interop.Word.Application.DocumentBeforeClose event, a message box is opened which prevents the Office document from closing, which breaks the automation.
Is there a way for me to determine the SaveChanges parameter (if any) on a Close within an Office.Interop.Word.Application event, such as DocumentBeforeClose? I'm trying to capture this parameter and determine if it's set to wdDoNotSaveChanges so that I can work around this problem.

How do you open a document as another user? The document type is unkown (could be pdf, .xls, .doc, images etc). Document is on a network share, username, domain and password are all known.
I have thoroughly researched this question and I do not beleive the question has been answered here. Please prove me wrong. This question gets close Open a shared file under another user and domain?
But unfortunately it opens the file to a filestream, I need to open the file in its associated application.

I have written a text editor and I have created a menu option called "Display Modes". From within Display Modes the user can change the way in which he/she looks at the open documents, but what I also want to do is list the documents that are open in that menu (Display Modes), sort of like a Most Recently Used/Viewed list. So for instance I have got a lot of documents open at once and I want to quickly see what is there I can go to my Windows Menu click Display Modes and look at what I have got open.
