Select All Records Where A Field Is Null Using LINQ?

Jan 25, 2012

I've got a table that caches calculated values for certain dates. I want to use LINQ to select all rows where the calculated value fields are null.But when I use isNothing I get an error that LINQ can't translate this into T-SQL. Is there a way to select null values with link, like this...?

Dim var = From rec As Record In myDataContext.Records Where IsNothing(rec.calculatedValue) Select rec

Other posts on stackoverflow mostly discuss how to avoid or check for null values with LINQ.

Note: I can't just set cacluatedValue's default to -1 to flag records whose calculated value has not been set (and then select those records) because I run queries that sum/average the calculated values. Selecting nulls seems cleaner and less bug-prone.

C# - Joint Query In Linq To SQL To Select All Records Even There Are Some Null In The Columns Of Foreign Keys?

Feb 2, 2011

I'd like to take all suggestion either in C# or VB.NET.I have a DB diagram like the image below. I also include the database script here [URL]In the Students table, CountryId and RoomId column are allowed null. Because some records do not have info about room and country yet.Also, some students do not have essays.I'm doing a joint query with all tables. I want to select all students to project the result like this:Wanted query result.

Here's my current query that gives the result like the image below:

Dim db As New DBDataContext
Dim query = From st In db.Students _
Join c In db.Countries On c.Id Equals st.Id _
Join r In db.Rooms On r.Id Equals st.RoomId _

[code].....

current query result I got only one result back because I have (2) William NoMan record in every table. But I don't get anything about others, like (3) Sync Master who has everything but RoomId.What do I need to modify the query above so it will give me all students like in the wanted query image above?

Create A Select All Filter In Combobox?

Oct 18, 2009

I am making a combobox dropdown to filter a report. I am using the table adapter to query the data and fill the report from the selected item in the combobox. However, if the user select index 0 (which is "-Select User-") , then the query should disable the filter and select all users in the database. How would I go about doing this with these 2 conditions?

Create A Fixed-length Unique String From Another Unique Numerical Value That Is Too Long?

Feb 13, 2012

I am using VB .Net to access the eBay API and store all completed orders in a database. This database is then fed into a proprietary shipping system, which can not handle an order number larger than 20 characters. eBay returns an order number like so 230407279314-680141236013 which is too long. The order number is always 12 numbers a hyphen and 12 more numbers. What I need to do, is turn this (the result can be alpha numerical) into a shorter, unique order key to store in my database alongside the true orderId (so that this can be referenced by the shipping software instead of the actual order number). The reason for the 20 character limit is the barcode algorithm used. Is there any way to achieve this in VB .Net 2010? This number can be anything unique, so long as it does not exist already (even a good uniqueid function would work, but I would have to query the database to make sure it isn't taken)

Filter Out Unique Values

is there a way to filter out unique values in a dataview or an array? I currently filter a dataview as such: [code] So now I have a dataview filtering the table, but can I further filter this data to find the unique instances of an item in this table? I eventually have to pass a portion of this table to an array, so if there is a way to find unique values in an array, I can use that.

Way To Get Unique Records From Datatable?

Aug 13, 2011

I have a DataTable with multiple columns including AccountNumber, Year, and Month. I am exporting the information in this table to an Excel workbook. Since this table has the potential to be extremely large, I must check the number of records in the table (since Excel can only have 65536 rows or something like that. If the original table is small enough, I need to put all of the records in a single worksheet. If there are too many records for one worksheet, I need to separate the records into multiple worksheets based on AccountNumber. Additionally, if there are too many records for a specific AccountNumber then I need to split that AccountNumber into multiple worksheets based on Year.ng:

Worksheet Name ---- Number of Records
1111 ---- 150,000
2222 ---- 50,000

VS 2008 Edit/update Records From The Database Using Textboxes By Linq To Sql?

Sep 26, 2009

This is the hardest part of LinqtoSql database handling operations in visual basic 2008 I ever encountered,w/c is the update operation cause Ive been posting this thread several times from the other forum site but noone yet was able to answer my question,examples were given but its not efficient cause it won't specify based on the codes i gave and i know its not easy but im still hoping that one of the answerers of this forum will be able to resolve this particular linqtosql operation codes. I used textboxes in manipulating all data into the database such as displaying records, adding records, & updating records, basically I used with textboxes in doing those database operations. I will give you 3 block of codes w/c corresponds those database operations I used and differentiate from each other inorder for us to determine why one of them has no progress or won't do its operation w/c is the update operation...

*************Block of Codes#1(Adding Records)*************
Private Sub Button1_Click(------------------) Handles Button1.Click
Dim db As New memrecDataContext()

[code]....

I would like you to identify,differentiate, or troubleshoot the block of codes#3, or anyhow, why it has no progress at all or it won't edit and change the records but it runs and no error in regards with its code, and the other 2 blocks of codes were able to successfully do its operations.I was just wandering why only the block of codes#3 is not doing its operation successfully when you change the record being displayed in the textbox.Is there a possible way to edit records in the textboxes?If there is.... Is it possible to debug the block of codes#3 to successsfully do its operation? If you could possibly give an example,can you based it on the block of codes#3?

Identify Unique Records Between Two List (of T)?

Nov 9, 2011

I have 2 List (of T) populated with the following

Dim curweekFolder As String
curweekFolder = String.Concat("c:", curweek_date.SelectedItem)
Dim preweekFolder As String
preweekFolder = String.Concat("c:", preweek_date.SelectedItem)

[code]....

I first wanted to identify which files matched in filename and list those in ListBox1, the following that was suggested on this forum worked very well (I added the minus last 19 characters as they would be different).

ListBox1.Items.AddRange(curlist.Where(Function(fi) prelist.Any(Function(fi2) fi.Name.Length - 19 = fi2.Name.Length - 19 AndAlso fi.LastWriteTime = fi2.LastWriteTime AndAlso fi.Length = fi2.Length)).ToArray)Now I need to populate ListBox2 with the files that do not match in each List (of T), again without looking at the last 19 characters. So for example if the first List (of T) had A.txt, B.txt and C.txt and the second List (of T) had A.txt and B.txt then ListBox1 would have A.txt and B.txt while ListBox2 would have C.txt.

.net - Filter Wrong Database Records In A DataGridView Control?

Jul 5, 2011

I have this database and I need to load it with a visual basic form in Visual Studio 2005.The database has 6 tables and they contain wrong data that I must filter when loading the database in the form.

A quick example:First table is Category, which has 3 fields (id, name, description). In one record I have 2a for id (a numeric only field) and in other record I have m1lk for name (a string only field).

When I click a button I load the database into a DataGridView control. How do I stop visual basic from loading into the DataGridView control those records that have invalid data (like in my example).

I have try with SQL queries using WHERE and LIKE, like in

SELECT IdCategoría, NombreCategoría, Descripción
FROM Categorías
WHERE (NombreCategoría LIKE '[!l]%') AND (IdCategoría LIKE '[!abcdefghijklmnñopqrstuvwxyz]')

but it's really difficult to filter things like Angel* and P3ter and Hood8, all at the same time..
