View 5 RepliesI want to know how you can export data from a disconnected database that could be access or ms sql to an sql server database.
Here is the scenario:
I have several software in a remote sites on either sql or ms access databases as back-ends...and I have another sql server database that i want to consolidate data from the remote sites.
One solution I have been thinking about is to use email to send incremental backups of the databases to the main database using a separate piece of software and have another one on the main server to pull that data into the database.
Basically am looking at setting up the remote databases as linked servers at the main database and then having incremental backups sent by email to the main database.
I have thought of replication but the internet link at the sites is terrible.
Is that a good implementation? If yes
How do i get to send the incremental backups and get them imported?(the code)

View 2 Repliesim trying to design a program where a user inserts text into some text boxes, and selects an item from a dropdown box, and clicks add, i want it so when they click add, it puts the data from the text boxes into an excel worksheet, so say, textbox 1 is product, put product in A1, the second would be cost so put the cost in B1, but the product type in C1(this is the drop down box) and then clear the visual basic form, so the user can enter a second set, and then when they click add, it adds the information into A2, etc, etc.

This is a VB.Net app using Visual Studios 2008 with SQL Server 2008 on a Vista Ultimate 64 machine.

I have the following code which works fine. However, I want to change one format when I export it to excel ..
Colum 3 is Sort Code and have the format 00-00-00, I want to change it to 000000 i.e., remove the dashes.
When exported to excel I use a formalue (Substitute(A1, "-", "") and this removes the dashes. But what I want to do is remove the dashes before exporting to excel... see the code below for datagrid - excel export, highlighted is where I think the one line code should be...
Code:
Private Sub ExporttoExcel()
'verifying the datagridview having data or not
If ((DgvQuarCommit.Columns.Count = 0) Or (DgvQuarCommit.Rows.Count = 0)) Then

View 3 RepliesI am working on a project that is able to display real time data from sensors from micro-controller. I am able to do so by sending the data through the serial port and then use vb 2005 to show the data. However, I want to save those data from vb 2005 to excel. How am I able to do it ? I am able to use vb to insert data to excel step by step, cell by cell using the following codes.

Dim oExcel As Object
Dim oBook As Object

Lets say TextBox1.Text and TextBox2.Text is my real time data. How do I save it to the excel sheet displaying the data in cell A2, A3, A4 when the time goes by. Eg. If I want to save TextBox1.Text to excel it would be, the data in the 1st seconds in cell A2, data in the 2nd seconds in A3, 3rd seconds A4, 4th seconds in A5, A6 and so on...
I am currently building a tool which uses access as the backend and excel as the user interface (I am unable to change the applications).I would like to be able to use the listview option, howver I haven't a clue and searching on the internet is causing me a headache.
Basically what I would like to do is get the heading names from the table in access and populate the listview, later on I will what it to look at specifc data to populate the list view.
My connections is already open, I think I'm ok witht he sql, its just the other bits.
I will use the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) to transfer files from a client (laptop) to a shared folder on a server within our local network.The problem is a very slow network bandwith, if we transfer a file, the other clients canīt work, all requests to other clients (application) or viewing internet pages needs a long time.My idea is to use BITS in my tool to copy/transfer a file from client to server, also I hope to get more performance for the internet requests.

View 1 RepliesI'm using server.transfer to transfer execution of a URL to a dummy page which fetches information from the database. The trouble is that the master page interacts with the session.
global.asax:
Sub Application_BeginRequest(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
' Fires at the beginning of each request
If Not (System.IO.File.Exists(Server.MapPath(Request.Url.LocalPath))) And Request.Url.LocalPath.ToLower

Master page:
If String.IsNullOrEmpty(CStr(Session("SessionId"))) Then
Session.Add("SessionId", Guid.NewGuid().ToString)
End If
Page declaration: <%@ Page Language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeBehind="utilityCMS.aspx.vb" Inherits="utilityCMS" MasterPageFile="~/MasterPages/main.master" EnableSessionState="True" %>
Web.config snippet:
<httpModules>
<add name="ScriptModule" type="System.Web.Handlers.ScriptModule, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" />
<add name="HttpModuleAggregator" type="XPIdea.Web.HttpModuleAggregator,xpidea.web.common" />
</httpModules>
I'm getting an error :
Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. Please also make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the <configuration><system.web><httpModules> section in the application configuration.
I should also mention that this same master page works elsewhere in the site. Session is used throughout the site as well (not just in the master page).

When i tried to run this code it is showing an error "Index was outside the bounds of the array" on the line that i highlighted in the above code.
I am trying to do something fairly simple.. allow my user to import thier data from Excel into SQL Server, where it can be used by the application.To do this, I'm using the fairly simple code that is common everywhere I look:
strFilePath = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" + fdlgFileOpen.FileName + ";Extended Properties=Excel 8.0"
connExcel = New OleDbConnection(strFilePath)
connExcel.Open()

Now, on my development computer this code works perfectly. The data imports, and I can go on my merry way.
On the TEST computer, this code throws the error: "ODBC -- Connection to {SQL Server} servernamesqlservername failed." This seems very odd to me, because I'm using exactly the same SQL Server and database to interact with the application, and all the other screens in the application work perfectly. The test computer CAN connect to this SQL Server, but it keeps throwing this error whenever I try import data from Excel.I've tried everything I can think of - using the server's IP address instead of the server name, sending the SQL Server administrator data along with the request, taking out the Trusted_Connection=Yes... nothing works. What is going on here? How can this code work fine on my computer, and hiccup on another?
In my scenario, users are able to upload zip files to a.[url]....I would love to create a "daemon" which in specified time intervals will move-transfer any zip files uploaded by the users from a[url].....From the info i gathered so far,
The daemon will be an .ashx generic handler.
The daemon will be triggered at the specified time intervals via a plesk cron job
The daemon (thanks to SLaks) will consist of two FtpWebRequest's (One for reading and one for writing).
how could i implement step 3?
Do i have to read into to a memory() array the whole file and try to write that in b.example.com ?
How could i write the info i read to b[url].....?
Could i perform reading and writing of the file at the same time? No i am not asking for the full code, i just can figure out, how could i perform reading and writing on the fly, without user interaction.I mean i could download the file locally from a.example.com and upload it at b.example.com but that is not the point.
