What is the fastest and easiest way to graph data in VB.net?
How do I export 2 columns of data in Vb.net, to either an excel file or to a notepad file?
When I look at a file on my hard disk, e.g. test.csv, when I look at the Properties of the file, it is officially known as, "Microsoft Office Excel Comma Separated Values File", and file types of .pdf are listed as "Adobe Acrobat Document", etc. etc. All of this information can be seen in Windows Explorer too when my folders are displayed by Details. How do you get at this "type of file" information with .NET?
View 2 RepliesI decided on a comma separated data file, saved as a text file. This is for data that will not change. After loading the data from the text file; then throughout the lifetime of the program the data can change. The data can then be saved back to a different binary file. The idea is to have a save state system going.Does anyone have a suggestion or is opposed to the idea. Is there a simpler way to organize something like this?
View 6 RepliesIs there a format string to format a decimal to 000000000,00. So first 9 digits, right padded with zeros if needed; a comma as fraction separator and two fraction digits.
0 => 00000000,00
12 => 00000012,00
987456,456 => 000987456,46
So something like myDecimal.ToString("D9") together with .ToString("F2").
What my program does is load a file (password list), then progressively reads each line of text in the file whilst writing each line to a new file. After X amount of lines have been written, it should start writing the lines of text to a new document until the initial password list has been split into X amount of password lists. The problem I have is that after hours of tweaking, all I can get it to do is write either blank ocuments, or write all of the lines to only one file. I really need it to be able to split into multiple files, preferably at runtime rather than loading a whole text document into the program in a textbox or array then writing it to new files.Below is the source:

In VB.Net, is there a way of auto-detecting the culture of a string representation of a number? I'll explain the situation:Our asp.net web site receives xml data feeds for boat data. Most of the time, the number format for the prices use either a simple non-formatted integer e.g. "999000". That's easy for us to process.Occaisionally, there are commas for thousands separators and periods for the decimal point. Also, that's fine as our data import understands this. Example "999,000.00".We're starting to get some data from France where some of the prices have been entered with the periods and thousands separators the other way around as that's the way it's done in many European countries. E.g. "999.000,00". This is where our system would interpret that as nine hundred and ninety nine pounds instead of the nine hundred and ninety nine thousand pounds that was intended.
View 2 RepliesBasically I want to take My Client.Then for example Lets say in my client I have "A = 1" Then my 2nd file which has random data in it.So Client= My Client File = The File which I want in the end result
How could I Inject "A = TextBox1.Text" from Client to File.I heard it's called "End Of File" or something like that.
I am reading in data from an excel file that is only viewed inside the program. This excel file is being populated by data from multiple PLCs (7) through DDE links via RS Linx Gateway. I would like this data to be written to two different excel files and specific sheets within those so that it can be viewed later on.
My program has a form that will allow the user to view the data live, meaning they look at the first excel file from the program so that they are not able to edit the DDE links or change the file in any way. The other excel files (there will be two, one for good parts, one for bad parts) have specific sheets for each part and each tester station. For example, if the part is a ABC part, and it is a good part, and it was tester on tester station 1 then it needs to be saved to the good parts excel file, in the ABC sheet and in the good tester station 1 sheet.
If part XYZ comes along and is a bad part (fails testing) then it needs to be saved to the bad parts file, the XYZ sheet and the bad tester station 1 sheet.I might have added more detail than is needed to solve the problem but I thought I would add it anyways to help you all understand my problem a little better.
the code I can incorporate in my application which will allow me to transfer data from my listview to a notepad or .txt file
View 1 RepliesI have a folder of around 200 notepad files with ticket information inside.Essentially, I need to compile a single PDF or Excel spreadsheet from all the information inside the individual notepad files.I don't want to have to open each notepad file, then copy and paste its data manually. I'd prefer to use some sort of loop function that opens each notepad file, extracts the data, and puts it onto an excel or PDF sheet.
View 18 RepliesYears ago when coding with VB6 and earlier, I used a file open command to create, read, and write a file that made it easy to store useful information.I believe it was binary and you wrote/read the data to a specific line in the file. When you opened the file with something like notepad, it just showed random ascii chars. When I needed a line of data, I could specify what line to load it from.

View 1 RepliesI need to open an excel file from vb.net and then search it for specific data. I then need to take those data and insert them into text boxes on a form that i have created. This is all controlled by a button click. I already have some code that will open a file dialog box and let me navigate to the correct file, but I am having trouble with the search portion. I have tried the Find function but I am not sure of the proper syntax. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and Excel 2003.

View 5 RepliesI am adding a web interface (ASPX.NET: VB) to a data acquisition system developed with LabVIEW which outputs raw data files. These raw data files are the binary representation of a LabVIEW cluster (essentially a structure).LabVIEW provides functions to instantiate a class or structure or call a method defined in a .NET DLL file.I plan to create a DLL file containing a structure definition and a class with methods to transfer the structure.When the webpage requests data, it would call a LabVIEW executable with a filename parameter. The LabVIEW code would instantiate the structure,populate the structure from the data file, then call the method to transfer the data back to the website.
How do you recommend I transfer (copy) an instance of a structure from one .NET program to the VB.NET program that executed it?
I want to load a csv file (A comma delimited text file) into a datatable. I found the OdbcDataAdapter Class which looks perfect, but it says it is supported only in version 1.1 of the .NET Framework.
Is there a better way to import a csv file into a datatable? the first line has the column headers.
I am using Visual Studio 2008, using version 3.5 of the .NET framework
is it possible to transfer data from whithin vb8 programe to excel continiously
in the same book?
I need to read the following file in vb .net:"C:WindowsSoftwareDistributionDataStoreDataStore.edb". It contains info about installed software updates. I've taken a look at the file by opening it with notepad. This isn't a plain-text file obviously, but I can find and see the text I want easily with Notepad, and I want to extract this text by using VB .NET.
The problem is, i've tried to read the file by using an io.streamreader, but I can't get the same results as in notepad. I've tried to change encoding but that doesn't work. I mean in Notepad, I can read some text easily: "A s e c u r i t y i s s u e h a s b e e n i d e n t i f i e d" [...], but the only thing I get with the streamreader is some bunch of ugly characters, and the text I saw with Notepad isn't there.
Do I have to read the file in binary or what? HOW NOTEPAD DOES IT? HOW DO I READ THIS FILE LIKE NOTEPAD DOES?I absolutely need to extract some updates info that aren't in either the registry or WMI/QFE.
I have a question about reading data from txt file and importing(transfer) to the existing excel file.for example I have "test.text" which includes some numbers listed below.[code]I want to put each number to separate excel cells by using Vb.net.

View 2 Repliesim trying to design a program where a user inserts text into some text boxes, and selects an item from a dropdown box, and clicks add, i want it so when they click add, it puts the data from the text boxes into an excel worksheet, so say, textbox 1 is product, put product in A1, the second would be cost so put the cost in B1, but the product type in C1(this is the drop down box) and then clear the visual basic form, so the user can enter a second set, and then when they click add, it adds the information into A2, etc, etc.
