VS 2008 : Make A Program That Works With Multiple Versions Of Microsoft Office?
Mar 3, 2010
What is the best way to make a program that works with multiple versions of Microsoft office? I own office 2007, so my program uses the office 2007 com objects. When I try to use my application with office 2003, I get errors related to the com objects. Does Microsoft have com objects that are compatible with multiple versions of office?
So I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that I don't have office loaded on my computer. Now I have another laptop, with office that I loaded this project on, and it works fine. So do I have to load office on this computer, or can I just reference something?
have a Visual Basic 2008 project with references to Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel and Microsoft.Office.Interop.Access for Office 12/Office 2007. I also have Office 2007 installed on my PC. I tried running my program on a PC which has Office 2003installed (i installed the compatibility pack to open .xlsx files) and the Access Database Engine for .accdb Databases. It does not have VS2008 installed but has .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 installed.
I have two slightly different versions of my VB applications that I would like to publish simultaneously. The differences are minimal and mostly include GUI and some internal logic. Incorporating changes into a single application is not an option right now.
I tried publishing and installing them separately but the latest installer always overwrites whatever has already been installed. For example, if I install App v1, then App v2, only App v2 will be visible. If App v1 is installed after App v2, only App v1 will be visible. What I want to have is to have them both installed. I am using Visual Studio 2008.
In VS2010 I'm encountering a PInvokeStackImbalance error when I call an unmanaged C function that takes a string argument. This only happens in VS2010 (works fine in earlier versions of vs). I know the MDA is more strict in VS2010 but I can't seem to figure out what the actual problem is.
I am creating a VBA application using Excel 2007 and would like to make virtually all of the standard Office and Excel menus invisible to the user and present to the user only my custom menu controls. I have been successful in doing this for all objects on the Ribbon as well as those on the Microsoft Office Button Menu, with the exception of the "recently opened files list" box, that also has the "Excel Options" and "Exit Excel" buttons on it. Can anyone tell me the name of the object for this control so that I can make it invisible?
Here is the relevant snipit of XML code that is in my CustomUI.xml file:
I would like to create Shared add-in that works with Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point. I've found nice article that provides step by step instruction for creating shared add-in for Word: [URL] I've followed instructions and it worked. However, I am looking for a way to create one add-in that works with Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point, not only Word. I didn't find any reference on the WEB.
Basically I've coded an Excel 2007 project in VB.NET 2010 that allows you to create charts with a fair amount of interactivity. I want the user to be able to save and reopen this workbook and still have that interactivity in any already-created charts, so they don't have to re-create them.
When I create the charts, I use Sheet1.Controls.AddChart(...), which returns a Microsoft.Office.Tools.Excel.Chart with which I can handle events and such. However, when I reopen the file and look through the Sheet1.Controls collection, there are no Chart objects. Accessing the charts through Sheet1.ChartObjects.Chart gives me Interop Charts, when I need the Tools Charts.
ive been asked to write a program to deal with supply chains (tracking commodities, personnel, etc). I want to create a program that will allow multiple office to run the same software and update their local databases as well as a central database.how to best send the data/ recieve it, and store it so that all offices can see, edit, and store the data both locally, and over the internet.
I have a function that I use quite a bit that I wrote more than 2 years ago. It works fine but recently I saw how it can use up a good deal of time under certain condition. Here's some code that uses the function SelectValue The function works so that if you had N which you plug into the function rising continuously while SelectLimit was set to 255 then SelectValue would match N until N reached 256. SelectValue would start to descend to 0 until it reached 0 and then it would again ascend to 255 and the process would repeat. So SelectValue(255, 255) would return 255 and SelectValue(256, 255) would return 254. SelectValue(257, 255) would return 253.
Option Strict On Public Class Form1 Dim sw As Stopwatch
[code]....
The function works exactly as I want it to but if one of you knows a way to write this so that it will process faster then you can let me know. I get a result for processing time of 6.11 seconds on my computer for the above code.
I have an application that uses a Microsoft DLL (Microsoft.ComponentStudio.ComponentPlatformImplementation.dll) which is used for OS deployment and accessing the catalog files. Version 6.0.0.0 is specific to the Windows Server 2008 catalog files. The newer version 6.1.0.0 is specific to Windows Server 2008 R2 catalog files. Attempting to access a catalog file with the incorrect version results in an exception.
My application (VB.NET using VS2005) needs to be able to access either version of these catalogs - I'd be happy with two executables (one for each catalog version) but obviously I don't want to maintain two sets of source code for each. Specifying both sets of DLLs in the project reference is not possible as the DLL names are identical. I'd rather not have to manually add and remove the DLL references each time I want to a build. As far as I know the interfaces etc are effectively identical between the two.
ASP.NET pros out there can answer this question. I have a single web application that contains a website and a web service - both have several assembly references in common (data access layer, utilities, etc) - however, recent changes made to the web service will require different versions of the common assemblies, versions that the website won't work with (in case you're wondering, the website is some legacy 1.x .NET code that explodes when using the newer version assemblies.)
allow my web service to reference one version and have my website reference another? I can obviously have only one version with the same name within the bin folder.(P.S. - It just dawned on me that I could probably compile and reference the common assemblies with a different name, and place those in the web app's bin folder - but that sounds really fugly...)
I want to update the project with some new functionality but I want to keep the original intact. What's the best way to go about creating a new project with copies of all the files and resources from the original, but with paths that all point to the new copy?
I am trying to import a tab delimited file with ADO. If I convert my tabs to csv it works, but I would like to know why it does not work with tab.The Function is on the buttomhere is my test data:
Test1: - Create a Text file with Headers: Test1, Test2, Test3 and rows:
I am a vb6 enthusiast willing to try NET. I am confused by all the versions and the fact that limitations of the 'free' version are not spelt out. My requirement is to be able to convert vb6 applications (possibly, but don't mind a manual rewrite), to write applications (not for tablets or phones yet) that I can use myself and possibly publish to others. I would like to allow printed reports for my financial applications. I will have a small home network up soon but ability to operate on a network is not critical. I do NOT want to download a 'free' version and find that it is crippled one way or another, like allowing development but not publication.
Whether the 'free download' is OK, and which one (Express?), or point to a site where the versions are clearly laid out.
I've had a program using Office Web Components operational for about 5 years. I just installed Windows updates to the Vista 64 operating system, and now under Visual Studio express edition with Visual Basic, I am getting over a hundred error messages related to the following:
'Office' is not a member of 'Microsoft'
So, for example, the program has references like Microsoft.Office.Interop.Owc11.ChCharts and I now get an error message
[Code]....
how to fix it so these error messages disappear? (Where did Office go, and does it still contain Interop.Owc11, wherever it is?)
I have a VB.NET Windows application which uses Excel and Outlook, as I Know I have to reference either Microsoft Office 12.0 or 11.0 according to the office used (2003 or 2007). is there a way so that my project works on both and how can i do this?
To the board: Lately I've been getting Runtime error 3447 ("The Jet VBA file (VBAJET.dll for 16-bit versions, or VBAJET32 for 32-bit versions) failed to initialize when called. Try reinstalling the application that returned the error") when attempting to open a certain program (not one that I designed, just downloaded and installed). I installed this program in January 2009, but this error began happening only this past July. someone else to information about the files vbajet32.dll and expsrv.dll. One site said that the problem was probably caused by the file expsrv.dll being absent, but I checked my System32 folder, and it's there. As far as I can tell, it has always been there (the computer was made in 2008, and as I said the program had always worked before). Vbajet32.dll is also there. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, but error 3447 still occurs. I also tried uninstalling the program and installing an older version, but 3447 is still there.
I tried replacing expsrv.dll, thinking it might have been corrupt, but that didn't help, and I cannot register that dll anyway. I can't figure this thing out. Both of the files are there, and I didn't change any settings or anything anywhere between last January and this July. By the way, I am on Vista.
what im trying to do= make a program that will make multiple accounts
[code]...
ok what i type in textbox(es) "1" i want it typed on a "3"{a website=www.justin.tv/signup} when i hit the "2"[button1]i really dont have any idea what im doing i know ill need to have a webrowser to load the justin.tv/signup but i have no clue what the name of the boxes are called on the webpage
I have been using Excel in vb.net for years and no problem but I have a new app and nothing is working. First I can't get Microsoft.office.interop referenced anywhere, which was weird. Then I can't instantiate Excel App.. Dim pExcel_App as New Excel.Application -- this gives me error "New cannot be used on an interface??But I can do this..Dim pExcel_App As New Excel._ExcelApplication -- where did this come from? Then I can't put anything into cells Dim wkbSheet As Excel.Worksheet wkbSheet.Cells(1,1) = "Title" --- this give me an error "Expression is a value and therefore cannot be the target of an assignment"
THe really weird thing is that I have an old app open at the same time that is just fine with all this code. AND the intellisense is different for each cell. The good one sets is as a range, the bad one says it is an object???I re-installed the MS PIA's but this didn't help.
