VS 2008 - Scrollbars - Auto Scrolling Control Is Not Scrollable
Jan 22, 2010
I'm having a tough time implementing my own custom control that makes use of scrollbars if needed. The whole control itself would not be scrollable and only some portions of the custom paining would be scrolled, so the AutoScrolling capabilities of ScrollableControl would not work for me. But, I'm having an extremely difficult time in implementing a professional looking solution, where as the control gets resized, the scrollbars resize proportionality to be able to show a specified area.

i have a number generator which creates a number then a new line followed by another number. its set on a timer that goes over and over again until a desired number is reached. the only problem is that the numbers go off the screen and a scroll bar appears but stays at the top. is there a way to set the value of a scroll bar on a text box and if not how would i tie a vscrollbar to a textbox or richtextbox.

I am wanting to enable scrolling via Page Up/down keys, arrow keys etc as well as using a multi-touch touch screen (just need to drag your finger any where on the web browser control), but I do not want to be able to see the scrollbars. All of this works when:
WebBrowser1.ScrollBarsEnabled = (True)
But if I set to false it disables not just the scroll bars but also scrolling. Does anyone know a work around to this?

I have set a scrollable control's autoscroll to true. What do you do when you don't want a scroll to occur? For example, suppose you have a RichTextBox and a button side by side as below:
Notice that "button1" has the focus. If you click on the RichTextBox to give it focus, the scroll bars will scroll until the upper left corner of the RichTextBox is in view.
But what if, for whatever reason, you wanted to keep button1 in view? How would you do that?

I have a read only multiline text box I'm using as an output box for a continuous string of data, when my data gets to the end of the last visible line the scroll bar activates and my text vanishes past the bottom edge of the text box and I have to manually scroll the text box to get back to the end of my data. is there anything I can do to make the text box scroll up so I always see the end of the data stream being past to it?
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
TextBox2.Text = TextBox2.Text & TextBox1.Text
End Sub
End Class
Above is a really quick and dirty bit, take input from one textbox and output to the other using a button click or some such. After so many button clicks get the text box to scroll without doing it manually with a scroll bar, so you always see the latest entry.

Is there a way to enable a default pan behavior in the .Net scrollable control when you press down on the center scroll button, or Is that a behavior you have to implement yourself? You know like in some programs where you press down on the center button and it give you an arrow cursor that pans whichever direction you move the mouse?

I am just getting back into VB.NET, and I need to ask a question. I am doing a project for a class which requires iterating through 360 items in a scrollable control that will pause every so often. I am thinking I might use either a ListView or GridView, but I am not sure if this is the right way to go or if I need to use a different control all together.

Sometimes, I have a picturebox lets say 100x100. But the image it will display is actually 100x400. I don't want to increase the size of the picturebox itself. Instead, I would like to create a vertical scrollbar (or horizontal if needed). I could not find a scrollbar in the toolbox, so I guess I have to code it. But, how? And I still wonder if I didn't make a mistake and didn't see the scrollbar in the toolbox.

Is it possible to make a multi-line text box still scrollable while it's disabled? The closest I can achieve this is to set the text box's ReadOnly property to false, which will gray out the text box, and still scrollable, but the text in the box remains black instead of being gray. Changing the forecolor of the text box does not have any effect. The color of the text changes back to black when I set ReadOnly to true. I want to be able to mimic the disabled text box visually.

I am using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition and I am trying to set a listbox so it starts to scroll when it hits the middle point of what is viewable on my list. I also want to set it so the list is always visable so you when you reach the bottom of the list you can scroll down to the bottom but if you scroll back up once it reaches that middle point it will start to scroll up again.

"Automatic Image-scroller". The scenario is quite simple. I've got one single picture, and it should move up and when it moves out of frame, the same picture would appear beneath itself and continue to move up. Kind of a loop.The problem is that i haven't got a single clue how to make it in code-behind nor XAML, but it has to written in "code-behind" cause of the things i'm hooking it up with.

Intent: To teach the user how to create a control that scrolls text at an adjustable speed across the control.What you'll need:Visual Studio.NET (2002 or 2003) - The version I built this with is 200325 Minutes of free timeI don't remember what prompted me to create this control, except that I was sitting at my desk one day and thought to myself?
1. First open the Visual Studio IDE.
2. Select 'New Project'.
3. From the project languages, select 'Visual Basic'.
4. From the project types, select 'Windows Control Library'.
5.Once the initial project has finished loading there's a couple of things that you may want to do first. The first one being, change the control name to something that means something. "UserControl1" just won't do, so in the 'Solution Explorer' right click on the "UserControl1.vb" file and click 'Rename'. Without removing the '.vb' file extension, type the name of the control. In this case lets call it 'ScrollingMarquee.vb'.
6. Now back to the control design area. Add a timer control to your project from the toolbox. Set the enabled property to 'True' and set the interval to 100. Right click on the control area (the actual control itself, not the timer) and click on 'View Code'. This will take you to the code area of project.
7. Enter the code as is written displayed below.
Code:Imports System.DrawingImports System.Drawing.Drawing2DImports System.ComponentModel
Public Class ScrollingMarque Inherits System.Windows.Forms.UserControl
#Region " Windows Form Designer generated code "
[code]....
Just want to make sure that each time we move the control or resize it,'it re-renders correctly.Invalidate()End SubEnd Class8.Next select 'Build -> Build ScrollingMarquee'.9. Once you have any bugs worked out (there shouldn't be any, but in case there are), you can change the build mode to release and rebuild the control for use in your projects.

I am navigating to a website using a webbrowers control and I wish to automatically scroll the page after it is loaded. I have used scrolltop , scrollleft commands as set out below but nothing seems to happen.
WebBrowser1.Document.Body.ScrollTop = 100
WebBrowser1.Document.Body.ScrollLeft = 200
I have placed the above commands in a command button and wait until the page has loaded before I press it and also in the
WebBrowser1_DocumentCompleted sub
Other commands such as
WebBrowser1.Document.Body.ScrollIntoView(True)
Seem to work ok.

My application appends incoming report data onto a RichTextbox control. As more text arrives from an external device, the thumb initially fills the trough and as times goes on, the thumb diminishes in size. This is expected behavior.A modal dialog box allows the user to cancel the file download but since it's modal, the user can't scroll down to see what the last text that was appended.Is there a property/event/method that will show the most recent/last text in the RichTextBox control, rather than the initial text as I have it displayed now? The user would be able to see the text drawn real time without having to use the thumb to accomplish

I have ComboBoxes and DatagridViews for which I've written code to automatically adjust the width of the ComboBox dropdown list or DataGridView columns depending upon the available space for them and certain conditions.The problem is when a vertical scrollbar appears. I then need to adjust for the width it takes, but am not able to find how to detect this using code.Ive been looking at .ScrollBars, but with this I can only set/get for them to be able to be there or not.
For the ComboBox:
-How can I detect if it has a vertical scrollbar before opening its dropdownlist, if at all possible?
-If not, how do I check using code if it has a vertical scrollbar?
For the DataGridView:
-How do I detect using code if it has a vertical scrollbar

After scouring the articles online I have come up with this design for a winforms based touchscreen app that needs smartphone like scrolling. The app itself will run on a tablet laptop or touchscreen desktop.I put everything I want to scroll on a panel. Set autoscroll to true (which will show scrollbars)Now put this whole panel inside a groupbox.Shrink the groupbox until the scrollbars are hidden (visually hidden, not visible = false)
Now the fun part I am stuck at.I think I have to handle the mousedown, mouseup & mousemove on the panel to set the autoscrollposition so that when someone touches the panel and drags, it does it's scroll magic. Please help fill in the few lines of code in below method stubs. The msdn doc on autoscrollposition is very confusing since it returns negative numbers but needs to be set to positive with abs and what not.

Point mouseUpPoint;
Point mouseDragPoint;[code]......

The situation is like this, says:I have textbox1 to textbox20 to show real-time reading, then textbox21 to textbox40 for other purpose. So textbox1-20 can be manage in group through: For index As Integer = 1 To 20 Form1.Controls("Textbox" & index).BackColor = SystemColors.Window Next The problem is, after some time i feel i like to change the order or add/delete few textbox, then i need to change the control name one by one by entering the name by hands(says if i add a text box then its name will be textbox41, then then For loop wont work, Or I deicided to delete the textbox15, forloop wont work either, then i need to rename them manually.)
Question: If there a ways that create a control array in VB 2008 express edition? which can set the name of Textbox1-20 to ButtonGroup then refer to them by says Buttongroup(1) for textbox1? (which means set a group of control in one name)

I have a panel on my main form that has vertical scrollbars enabled. I also have a custom control I have built that is the same width as the panel and has a height of 45. I store multiple of my user controls in an array, and I want the panel to display these controls like a listbox... one stacked on top of the other. So I loop through the array and add each control to the panel at coordinates right under the previous one.This works fine, and as long as I use the the mouse to scroll down and expose the controls I'm interested in and then clicking on that control, things work great. The problem comes in when I want to use the arrow key to move down to the next control. If the next control is visible on the panel, it works fine.

A program I am making required that I write my own code for column reordering rather than using the built in column reordering in the datagridview control. When I am dragging a column my code checks if the cursor is near to the right hand side of the control and if so it scrolls to the right using firstDisplayedColumnIndex.
The problem I am encountering is caused by the fact that when I do my custom dragging of columns the display index is changed not the column index itself.So when my code tries to scroll to the right using firstDisplayedColumnIndex once it reaches the very right it jumps back and forth. This only happens when I have moved the first column and thus when the first displayed column doesn't have the lowest index.

i am currently trying to improve my skills regarding simple graphics. currently i have a form with a background image. on top of that there is a movable image drawn during Form_Repaint. the image is a character that is animated. you click and the character moves to the new point. that all works great atm. i am even able to add new "AI Chars". they just randomly walk through the form and every time they stop, there is a 10% chance every 15s that they move somewhere else (random point). as is said, that works great. but now i am kinda stuck. since my "engine" (lets say so) is in isometric perspective, i need the ability to scroll.

Okay: I've been searching the threads and MSDN and elsewhere and either its not there or I am simply not understanding what I am finding.I have an image which at full resolution is larger than my screen (actually it is larger than any screen). I want to be able to look at parts of it at full resolution in a client area that is the size of the entire image at full res; that is, I want the window to exist without any scroll bars and want to be able to examine different parts of the image by repositioning the window on the desktop.
In general, I've run into trouble insofar as windows (or maybe VB) won't let me make my window any larger than my operative desktop (although interestingly it will let me place the window to the North-West of my visible screen). What it won't let me do so far is to grow my window any larger than my desktop.
So far I have noodled a couple of different possibilities, in descending order of preference:
(1) Find some way to exempt my window from the limitation that it be smaller than the desktop;
(2) Virtually increase the size of my desktop so that it is as large or larger than my image (i.e., find some way of exempting my desktop from the limitation that the desktop represent the dimensions of the screen/monitor -- understanding that those two are not the same);
(3) Simulate a multi-monitor configuration (I'll probably need at least four); or
(4) Actually configure my system for four+ monitors (I don't even know whether that's possible, but its certainly not my first choice).
Does any one have any other ideas or suggestions as to how I ought to proceed?[URL]..
