i have a stream reader reading a csv comma delimited file, its skipping every second line though if i edit the file and enter blank lines in between, it reads them correctly

I have a text file, with several lines of comma delimited data. The easy part is that each item fits into the same field, so I can use a 2 dimensional array. I would like to use .net classes to do this, not the old file handling functions I was used to.How can I take the text file and load the data in the text file into a 2 dimensional array.Here is example data in test.txt

2,3,4,5,1,1,1,2,3,4,5,1,1,1

So this would go into a (14,3) array.I would like to make sure, that the array is automatically sized to the size of the data also.
I want to read a tab delimited file so i set up a data reader with the following connection string: [Code] However when I do this it doesn't seem to delimiter at the tab characters (I cannot work out why it is breaking up the data where it is). the first few lines of the csv are in the attached "dbamstr.txt" - the select statement I am running is: "SELECT * FROM dbamstr.txt".

The application has text boxes (name, email address, etc) and I want to read information from certain lines in the text and place in the given text box.[code]When I start debugging mode it does not display the text until I click onto the text box and it's displaying the first line of text in the file. How do I skip the first line of text and have it display the second line (or the 6th, 24, or whatever line I need to be displayed)?Then I can start working on learning to use streamwriter
View 6 RepliesI recently asked a question about reading a file with Streamreader to variables arrays, but I made it more complicated than need be. Here is the simple version of what I am trying to do:
dim MyNumber(1) as String
strMyFile = 100,200 (I already have this)This is the result that I am trying to make happen:
MyNumber(0)=100
MyNumber(1) =200
I would also like the result to be MyNumber(0), MyNumber(1) as double, but I could do that in a later step. This is almost embarrassing to ask, because it is probably basic stuff.

But now it seems that even with that ref included, none of these commands exist. From what I've been reading online, to do this via .net, you have to parse the file out and create a serious of SQL inserts. I'm assuming/hoping/praying that there is a more efficient way to do this...
what would be the easiest way to open a comma delimited text file - each field is surrounded by quotes - and then analyze this file to find the record with the most fields being used? right now i bring the file into and access db then loop through each record to see if there is any data.

I have to write the output of 14 seperate queries to each of these tables in to a comma delimited file. I know how to write it using direct read , loop through and write to text. What I am looking for is a more configurable solution. I should be able to configure my application if a new table/query needs to be outputed. I should also be able to configure the delimiter to use.(I am Ok with C# or VB.NET )

When I use to do some Delphi programming you were able to define variable as a target for a comma delimited file and then under that give variable names for each field to fall into. I forget the syntax now but it looked something like this...

I am doing an audit of equipment for a charitable organization and have a list of assets (enclosure output.zip) going vertically.
I would like to translate the information from vertical into a comma delimited file, one row per staff member which would be imported into excel and filtered to reporting requirements.
I want to load a csv file (A comma delimited text file) into a datatable. I found the OdbcDataAdapter Class which looks perfect, but it says it is supported only in version 1.1 of the .NET Framework.
Is there a better way to import a csv file into a datatable? the first line has the column headers.

I want to pass a comma delemited list of values as a parameter to a query I'm building using the designer in Visual Studio 2008 based on some strongly typed DAL tutorials I was going through. The query is going against a DB2 database. Here's what I want to do:

It works fine win I pass in 123456 as ?But fails when I pass in '123456' (it is a char field so I don't know why this doesn't work; it must be adding these behind the scenes) or 123456, 123457 or '123456', '123457' I'm adding this page to a portal where all the data access is being done based on the DAL designer model with a BLL that calls it so I wanted to do it this way for consistency.
i want to take a comma delimited text file and then select all unique records based on one of the fields in the text file. should i read the text file into a data table or just use a data reader?

The database program is capable of exporting data out in the form of tab and comma delimited files. I would like to see an example in vb.net 2003 of how I might be able to loop thru an entire delimited text file line by line isolating each tab delimited field to say a text box or a string variable.My ultimate goal is to be able to write this delimited data to a special spreadsheet application capable of dealing with text block sizes beyond the capability of Excel. View 2 RepliesI'm having an issue with the streamreader. I had it working but I've changed something and it has stopped.
I have it in a Do While loop reading line by line, but it doesn't finish reading. It reads about 27 lines out of 4000, then stops.
I changed the contents of the file it was reading, but it's still just save as a txt notepad file.
I also changed how I tell it which file to open (UserSelection.T2) however it does open the file just doesn't finish reading it.
Doesn't kick back any errors, it just doesn't read the entire file.
