Why Is Streamreader Not Reading Entire File
Jul 2, 2010I'm having an issue with the streamreader. I had it working but I've changed something and it has stopped.
I have it in a Do While loop reading line by line, but it doesn't finish reading. It reads about 27 lines out of 4000, then stops.
I changed the contents of the file it was reading, but it's still just save as a txt notepad file.
I also changed how I tell it which file to open (UserSelection.T2) however it does open the file just doesn't finish reading it.
Doesn't kick back any errors, it just doesn't read the entire file.

C# - Reading New Line From Text File Using StreamReader
Aug 24, 2011What I have stored in my file is values related to an account. (Just testing, not going to be used commercially). What I need is to draw the values for the username and password, by going through each new line, but .peek() doesn't seem to work for me.
My block looks as such :

The application has text boxes (name, email address, etc) and I want to read information from certain lines in the text and place in the given text box.[code]When I start debugging mode it does not display the text until I click onto the text box and it's displaying the first line of text in the file. Apr 19, 2011I have a problem with a streamreader in visual basic 2008.I am updating a database from text files on an ftp server. The streamreader works fine until the file is more than 100,000 bytes long.It reads until it reaches this point and then just ends. No error message, it just reads to this point which happens to be 2 fields out of 6 in the database stream. My question is - does the streamreader have a limit? And if so what is a workaround?

StreamReader/Writer - Loads An Entire Text File Into A Streamreader Variable
Jul 9, 2009I'm writing a program that basically loads an entire text file into a streamreader variable, then reads this variable line by line and parses and writes a line into a new text file. I'm VERY new and my knowledge is mostly self-taught, but I can't seem to get out of this one. It works for smaller files, but it appears to reach a limit in characters at some point because in a file of 900 lines, it stops writing about halfway through 800 and there are no errors, the program actually completes and the message box pops up.
There are a few things with this code I already know I should fix, such as creating the new text file name, it's messy, I just don't know how.

May 2, 2012I am looping through a text file and reading and then parsing each line.. then, inserting into a sql server. The problem is, I am getting every other line. Any thoughts? I read another post on here that is similar and it says that that person was calling the ReadLine twice... which makes sense. I just cannot spot where it is happening.

Jun 13, 2010Normally CSV files I work with lookes like this : d,e,f,g,1,2,3,4,5 What I am trying to do now is importing a CSV file that contains a title field, HTML description field ect. so at the end the CSV file format looks like this:"Record Title",1,2,3,"HTML description, which contains "",, ect",1,2,3,4,5, I need to know how to work with the above CSV format, where all the strings are inclosed with "" and may contain commas, so I can't use the split function as is to split where it incounters a comma as it may be part of the HTML description or Title field.

Jun 22, 2010I am trying to read in and eventually manipulate an 'XML-type' file. I have picked up a hobby called 'Geocaching', some people probably have heard of it, where you use gps coords to locate items placed by other people. Well, you can download the gps coors within data files from the website,'Geocaching.com' and these files are in a XML format.
There are a lot of programs out there that people offer, some are better than others, but I am not happy with the results. So, I am trying to see how I can use these files myself and create my own program to use the data in a way that I want to use it.
I have tried to use Linq, XMLdocument, XMLreader and probably a couple of others over the past week. I have had marginal sucess with each of these methods, but nothing great and I owe that to my lack of knowledge.
I eventually hope to add the data to a Access db that I am using and manipulate the info from the db.
I am attaching a sample of one of the downloaded files and if someone would have the patience to help me work my way through it, p.s. The file typically ends with '.gpx', but since its an xml and thats what the system recognizes, I added the extension in order to upload the sample file.

Aug 15, 2011My program reads a 3rd party .txt file using OleDb and reads the file into a datatable. It's overall working fine except a user will occasionally have a problem reading a file. At this point.

It can not retrieve a date for one of the fields, then gives error and does not get dates for each records after the one it gets hung up on but the date is in the file. If I open the file in excel and play with the column sizing, for instance just autoformat column width then it read the date and will work fine. I have looked at the file in notepad and cant see anything wrong in particular on the record it gets hung up on. I have no control over the .txt file since it comes form a 3rd party.

Sep 29, 2009I'm reading a file into a buffer using the Space function. Then I'm using blowfish dll's to encrypt it, and want to write the encrypted data to a txt file. (I realize you can use .NET cryptography classes, but I need to use these old blowfish dll's for this project.) Anyway, when when I encrypt the data in the buffer, I can see all encrypted data, but when I write it out to a file, I get a few lines of encrypted data and the rest of plain text.

VS 2005 Reading Comma Separated CSV File With Double Quote
Jan 26, 2010I'm trying to read a csv file with comma separated. Problem is inside the file, it has one column which original value already contains Comma. Here is the example

So, when I Split the string with Comma, it gave me problem. Actually total it has 6 columns. But because of internal comma, it gave me 7 columns. And this CSV format can't change so I must deal with this problem. And so here I come out with a solution (because of its too long, I looking for better idea and solutions from you guys ):

When I open the file, I want each line/string in the file to go in as a separate item in the listbox. I've gotten it to work so far but only with 1 string. Jun 21, 2010i would like to ask is there anyway to read a txt file with UTF-8 encoding using streamreader or filestream. the txt file is contain some extended ASCII that makes me cannot read the characters properly. I hav tried Encoding.ASCII.GetString(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes()) but still it return wrong character when it's reading extended ASCII code.

When i open the file, i want to redisplay the data in separate text boxes. Later on in the project i want to be able to search within the file for headings for example;

i am currently able to use the streamreader and open file dialog to retrieve the entire string of text fromthe however i am not sure how to go about getting the text between the headings I have used.

So if it try to use the following, its just stops wherever an empty line appears.
