After reading this post i realized that i cannot pass an anonymous type as a parameter to a function. So what other options do i have?
Perhaps, passing a Query.ToList as parameter would help, or am i re-inventing the wheel?
Update: I have the following query, which i would like to pass to a function:
Sub Test
Dim Query = (From c In DB Select New With { .ElementName = c.Name })
DoSomething(Query)
[Code].....

Can someone on the VB language team explain why a function result type is not part of the parameter signature?If it were then function overloads would also work for functions that only differ by the result type. In some cases, this is useful (aka cleaner code) especially when you have strongly typed data.
Other languages have this and implement it by considering the function result as an OUT parameter either as param 0 or at the end of the param list (stack) so existing type matching verification can be performed by the compiler.
In VB, the workaround is just messy and would be easily fixed by a language change. This example is overly simplified and not meant as a solid justification for the request Say you have a parse requiirement that takes a comma delimited string in the form: "31,32,33,34" or "bob,carol,ted,alice"
In you code,

I have created my own ListViewItem class, and added some custom properties to it of attributes. What I have at the moment is a tooltip which shows all of those custom properties (about 18 of them).What I want to be able to do is if multiple are selected, to show a tooltip, but if a property (say Title) for all of them is "My Title" it will show that, otherwise if they are different, I would like it to show "VARIES"Is there a way of declaring a parameter in my function and return a value? I want to pass an optional parameter to a function of type System.Drawing.Color. The problem I am having is that when I declare the function it says "Constant expression is required" but I have tried variations of the following, including integers, full qualified indentifiers, even old vbWhite constants to no avail.

I am working with TVP and I am trying to pass a data table to the stored procedure as TVP. When the command tries to ExecuteNonQuery it throws an error:Operand type clash: datetime2 is incompatible with int. The data for table-valued parameter "@tvpPermitWork" doesn't conform to the table type of the parameter.I checked the data table using the visualizer and I find all the data to be correct. I am now stuck and I don't have the time to change it to stored procedures with individual parameters.

Is it possible to make a procedure have a single parameter but the values for that parameter are more than one? I have this procedure:
Public Sub autoComplete(ByVal cboCombo As ComboBox)
With cboCombo
.AutoCompleteMode = AutoCompleteMode.Append[code]....
Now I was wondering if there is a way to use it like this:
autoComplete(myCombobox1, myCombobox2, myCombobox3)
Or can I use a procedure like this with 'With...End With'?

I have a method which requires a parameter to be passed in. I would like to use the Addhandler to call the method through a dynamically created button control's click event.
When I include () in the AddressOf, VS complains: 'AddressOf' operand must be the name of a method (without parentheses).
When I exclude the brackets, VS complains: Method '...' does not have a signature compatible with delegate...

One of the things that I think is really cool about VB.NET is how built-in functions and subs have extra help text in their ToolTips like "Expression: String expression to search for replace string." as well as the usual "Replace(...parameters...) as string" text. So are the pop up boxes with things like "CompareMethod.Binary" or "CompareMethod.Text." And finally I like how some functions and subs have different sets of parameters for the same routine. For example, New FileStream() starts with either a path (string) parameter or handle parameter, but none of the 15 sets of parameters contain both path and handle parameters. Is there a way that I can set up the classes and functions I write to use these things or do they only work with built in classes and functions? If there is a way, what are the proper names for them so I can look them up in the VS/VB documentation? I would be happy enough if someone would give me an example of them, but it would be nicer if I could go through the documentation and find out if there are other cool things that are related or near by.

I need to execute a stored function in oracle or sql through vb.net. I created a command object. Depending on the database type(oracle or SQL) i am preparing the Command text as Select functionName(?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?) from dual; (For Oracle) Adding the parameter values of the function. Now performing the ExecuteScalar which is not working saying invalid parameter. This works with ODBC connection string. But ODBC doesn't with 64bit. My Requirement: Code should execute a user defined stored procedure by taking the values at runtime.

This is kind of two questions (one more specific than the other).If I have a method like this:[code]Can I qualify Foo against another type (for instance can I require that Foo be a String that also implements IInterface?).I'm imagining something vaguely similar to this:[code]Additionally, is there any way to qualify the Type parameter?For instance, can I require that the Type I take as a parameter is of a particular class tree?I should mention that I am using this in the context of a property of an attribute so the class declaration itself cannot be generic (this is purely focused on qualifying a method parameter rather than typing a class and its methods).

The following two statements seem the same to me but the first throws a design time error, and the second does not. The first one is passing the first parameter in hex and the second passes the first parameter as its decimal equivalent.
Public Shared ReadOnly Test As New Guid(&HCC58E280, &H8AA1, &H11D1, &HB3, &HF1, &H0, &HAA, &H0, &H37, &H61, &HC5)
Public Shared ReadOnly Test2 As New Guid(3428377216, &H8AA1, &H11D1, &HB3, &HF1, &H0, &HAA, &H0, &H37, &H61, &HC5)
Here is the error associated with the first statement:
Error 1 Overload resolution failed because no accessible 'New' can be called with these arguments: 'Public Sub New(a As Integer, b As Short, c As Short, d As Byte, e As Byte, f As Byte, g As Byte, h As Byte, i As Byte, j As Byte, k As Byte)': Constant expression not representable in type 'Short'. 'Public Sub New(a As UInteger, b As UShort, c As UShort, d As Byte, e As Byte, f As Byte, g As Byte, h As Byte, i As Byte, j As Byte, k As Byte)': Constant expression not representable in type 'UInteger'.

I have a vbscript that runs under asp page. I need convert the code to VB.NET
SET objCommand = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Command")
objCommand.ActiveConnection = Application(DB)
With objCommand
[code]....
What is the VB.Net that will do exactly the vbscript does? I like paramer(0) and 1 and 2 etc since I don't need to define the parameter(0) as integer or varchar etc. I remembered I have discuss this before and it is possible to do in VB.NET?

I'm trying to create a function to parse out all values in a multidimensional Array with all but one dimension given. The details are not relevant, but for this function I need to return an one-dimensional Array containing values of the same type the original multidimensional Array has.To pass any Array with any dimension to my function, I declared the type of this parameter as Array. However, how would I create a new Array of that specific type (e.g. Integer)?Currently I have the following code:
Function GetRow(ByVal arr As Array) As Array
Dim result As (...) 'This should be Integer() if arr contains Integers, etc.
Return result

Is it possible to have an optional parameter of the type list?Ex.
Private Function TestFunction(Optional ByRef MyList As List(Of Double))
The real problem is giving the list a default value. When dimming a new list, you can use the code below to give it a starting value:
Dim MyList As New List(Of Double)(New Double() {1, 2, 3, 4, 5})
But even after trying many variations of the above code, I cannot get it to work as an optional parameter.

I need type parameter overloading as such:[code..]
so that i can New Map(Of Human) and the compiler will automatically match it to Public Class Map(Of TKey, TValue) and if i new Map(Of String) the compiler will automatically match it to Public Class Map(Of TKey As IEquatable(Of TKey), TValue) (since String is an IEquatable(Of String))
Right now my solution is to give the class different names as such:[code...]
