I've got that code in a try/catch statement and it shows me via a MsgBox the error "Failure sending mail".

I am about to put my fist through my monitor!!! I have been working on this for the better part of 2 days. Here's the issue: I'm in an Enterprise environment and am writing an app that will shoot off small emails. I got the settings I needed yesterday and got everything to work 5 times in a row! Then, I went to another task for a little while and came back to the email portion and ran another test and it never worked again! I've written and re-written my code 100 times. I can't get it to work. Here's one version of my

I'm interested in having a generic 'Try Catch' clause, with some case statements or if/than statements within the Catch part so that I can handle different error types differently. some way to get ex.Errorcode or ex.ErrorType that differentiates the different errors to a unique value.
How can this be done?
Try
'some code taht will throw an error'
Catch ex AS Exception
If ex.ErrorCode = 20 then
' Do something'

I've implemented with Visual Basic 10 an application for Net Framework 4 with functionality to send files via e-mail using System.Net.Mail. It works well except when it comes to sending an XML file whose name contains accents. In the latter case the UTF-8 name is not correct, so Widows Mail Life presents him with name consisting of a set of meaningless characters. Furthermore, the content has lost the format of lines and spaces, presented part of MIME type information in the header, so that it is unreadable XML readers. However, with a name without accents is sent successfully.[code]....

One of the things I loved about VB6 is that you had the ability to tell the development environment to break on all errors regardless of what error handling you had set up. Is it possible to do the same thing in VS2008 so that the debugger will stop on any error even if it happens inside a try-catch statement?

I've been able to create and send an e-mail using System.net.mail. But it appears that the message isn't being sent until the application closes. This causes two major problems for me.1) When the user tries to send a second message, I get the following error: a generic error occurred in GDI+. I believe this is caused because I'm creating and sending a screen shot. If I take out the screen shot the error goes away. The screen shot is nice but not necessary. I can work around it, if I have to.
2) I am using the e-mail to provide notification that a process has been completed. The sender may continue to do other work while in the application -- including sending an e-mail to another recipient.
What do I need to do to get the e-mail to be sent before the application is closed?

Is there a way to pickup the SMTP server address, Username and Password for their E-mail account so that an e-mail can be sent directly from the application without having to use their e-mail application.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this so sorry if its wrong. I recently developed an 'In-House' Messaging system so our Receptionist has a very easy/quick way of sending phone messages to people formatted nicely and delivered to their Inbox in outlook. All the messages come from reception@our.domain and all messages are delivered to firstnamelastname@our.domain

I'm using the MAPI code by Dave Brooks.I am attempting to programatically send out a Crystal Report that is generated. When I run through the code without threading everything runs fine. The problem is when I use threading I get the return error "General MAPI failure [2]".I have never used threading before and understand that there are dangers involved. Can anyone provide any insight into this issue? NOTE: I've removed exception handling to make the code clearer.[code]

I have a program in VB.Net that receives mails from Outlook, extracts attachments and inserts the attachments into a table through a query. I would like to put the query/queries in a Try/Catch block, but cannot do so as Outlook exceptions cannot be caught, and it gives me an error, and unless I put a very specific exception, I cannot catch it. Is there a workaround?
Edit:
Try
Catch ex As Exception
End Try
Exception is underlined and when I hover on it, it says: "Catch cannot catch type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Exception' because it is not in 'System.Exception' or a class that inherits from 'System.Exception'". This is affecting all my other code which I'd like to put into a Try/Catch block.
