VS 2010 Detect Shift + Arrow Key In Form Keydown Event In BLANK Form
Mar 27, 2011
I need to detect shift + arrow key in blank form. But it's not working. I also tried overriding IsInputKey method but it only detects single key press (like arrow key) but when multiple key are pressed it simply doesn't work.

I'm listening for the KeyDown event in one of my forms (vb.NET, by the way). In this form, I've provided functionality, to search forwards and backwards. Searching forwards on a previously searched item is achieved by simply pressing F3. Searching backwards is achieved by pressing Shift or Ctrl + F3. I'm looking to use the Ctrl or Shift key (whichever is pressed) as a modifier and then I'd like to check e.KeyCode for F3. The problem is that as soon as I press Ctrl or Shift, an event fires for that key. I then can't do a check for F3, because e.KeyCode = Keys.ShiftKey or Keys.ControlKey respectively.

I have a weird problem. Ive created a UserControl that can be used to pan and zoom an image but when ever I add the control to a form my arrow keys will not trigger the KeyDown event anymore. If I remove it no problem.
If I try and listen to the KeyDown event on the control itself nothing fires either!
Ive set the KeyPreview property on the for to True.
I'd be happy to supply the code if anyone think they could solve it..

I'm using VB.NET (2008) and .NET framework 3.5. In my application I've got an on screen button that, when pressed, sends "00" as the characters [via SendKeys.Send("00")]. I also have a keyboard that has a '00' key that sends "00", two zeros, when pressed. I'm picking up the keypress using the form's KeyDown event - it fires twice, once for each "0" and works whether the on-screen or keyboard '00' is pressed. There's also a singe '0' on-screen button and key on the keyboard that sends "0".
I want to be able to treat the "00" as a single event. I.E. in the KeyDown handler, if the character is a single zero "0", I would like to check the next character to see if it is also a zero "0". If it is then I can handle it appropriately, but also need to remove it (from the keyboard buffer?) so that it doesn't fire the second KeyDown event. If it's not a zero then it should be left to fire the next event in the normal fashion.

I am running out of function keys and it will be nice if I can double up on some of them with the Shift Alt or Ctrl keys.I am using
if e.keydown = keys.F3 then{it does what it is supposed to}end if I tried e.keydown = keys.F3 AND e.keydown = keys.Shift but it gets ignored. Am I seeking the impossible or am I just missing something? Can some one tell me what I am missing or point me to an example?

I know you have to use WM_EXITSIZEMOVE or whatever it is, but I'm just not really sure how to use messages properly...I've read a few things online but just can't get it to work properly.
I'm looking into making child forms dockable inside my parent form and want to know when to hide my dock labels again (after the child form has stopped being moved).

I developed a VB Winforms application in VS2010 Pro on my Win7 x64 desktop computer. I also have VS2010 loaded on my Win7 x64 laptop and when I open the same solution the application's form controls are shifted out of alignment and appear slightly stretched horizontally. The VS IDE settings are identical on both computers. Any idea why the solution looks perfect in the IDE when on my desktop, but when opened in the IDE on my laptop, all the controls shift out of alignment horizontally

If e.Control Then
MessageBox.Show("aaaa")

End Sub
As you can see, my form will check for when the control key is pressed down. But it doesn't work. Why?

I want to able to hold a key down while the application is loading and depending on which is being held down a certain form is shown.
For example holding down shift and the opening itunes opens a little dialog allowing you set the library(or something)
I can check whether the shift/Ctrl/Alt are being held down but i'd prefer to use the letters/digits.
Such as hold 1 down to open Form1 and hold 2 down to open form 2.

I have a web browser in my application. A simple one with a URL bar at the top, some back and forward buttons, the web browser component and a few other stuff. One thing I want though was a 'full screen' option. In most web browser, if you press F11 it goes full screen. I can make the web browser go full screen but I can't get the F11 short cut to work.it seems, I can only do it when the web browser component isn't focussed

so I have the following
Try
Dim username as String = My.Application.CommandLineArgs(0)
Dim password as String = My.Application.CommandLineArgs(1)
Catch
Msgbox("Cannot launch")
Application.Exit
Exit Sub
End Try
I placed this in the form's load event. What I want is for this check to run before the form even loads. If an error occurs, the msgbox comes up and the form is never seen. When I try the code now, the form comes up the msgbox shows. When the user clicks OK the form closes. I tried placing it in the form's designer but the designer tries loading the form any way. How do I get this check to run before the form shows?

I am making the Transition to VB.Net (using VB.NET 2010 express) and I have a simple problem that is driving me crazy. I wish for my Form when it Loads, initialise and then call a sub and do some stuff eg perform a plot. If i place a button on the form and click it the sub works fine. This task was simple to do in VB6 but for the life of me I cannot get it to work in VB.NET. Has the Form-Load event changed in some way with .Net?

I have a calculation project with 6 forms. The last form shows all the input and output data from the previous forms. This is accomplished in form6 load event. Form6 contains about 40 controls (mostly textboxes, labels and few pictureboxes), populated in this way:Textbox1.Text = Form2.Textbox3.Text, etc.I am not sure if this is a good practice. I know I can use the DGV, but it does not suit me because of the graphical reasons.

so I've begun developing another little rpg like game w/ visual studio 2010. I'm trying to have the arrow keys control a little square in the form but I've searched all over the internet and haven't found too much useful info. So first thing's first, how can i make a key perform an action, and then, if you know how, what code do i use to make it move the square on the form.

I'm struggling to get a label or any item updated during an event handler I've tried Form.refresh/update, application.doevent, trowing laptop out of window, etc...
If i check for TextChange event on the label and return the value in a msgbox it is set however nothing is shown on the form I'm calling COM's in a backgroundWorker so the form stays responsive as the COMS take quite a bit of time to handle certain parts and I dont want the form to look as if it hangs.
Private Sub cmsCon_Change(ByVal iState As ACSCN.LoginState) Handles cmsCon.NotifyProgress is where the update occurs in the handler by calling the UpdateStatus() Method

I am using a timer control to display a message form in my application, but it's not working the way I want it to. Currently, when the timer event fires I create a new instance of my message form & display it. But if the user is away from their desk & doesn't close the message form before the timer fires again, a new instance of the message form is created & shown. So how can I check to see if the message form is currently shown on the screen so multiple ones dont get displayed? This is my timer event:
Private Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer1.Tick
Using frm As New MsgForm
[Code]...
Do I need to use the default instance of the message form instead of creating a new one?
