Backgroundworker Not Accessing Variables?
Aug 26, 2010When using the backgroundworker, I know that the DoWork event is not suppposed to support cross thread operations for controls. I have a public integer variable declared on a different form that I need to test in the DoWork event.The backgroundworker seems to not be able to check what the variable is, as the test never enters inside the if/end if check. If I copy the code exactly to a different sub (IE, not a background worker, a normal sub) and call that sub instead of starting a background worker, the if/end if always gets entered.I'm confused as to why it won't raise a cross thread exception, but won't test the variable that makes the check true (as it does in the test sub).I added in a try/catch block and that doesn't catch any exception either. I tried a timer and started the new sub with that timer, but that still completely locked up the app...

Apr 28, 2009My current project involves displaying questions/answers from two different databases to be used to compare values and make judgements. The number of questions, choices, and answers is all variable. Thus I am attempting to create labels dynamically to show the information on the screen and create textboxes to leave comments. My problem is not knowing how to then access these lables, since I can't code in to use "label_comments" & (i) as it doesn't exist (at least, I can't get it to work).
First, my code for creating and displaying the information:

VS 2008 Dynamically Accessing Controls?
May 19, 2010I am trying to create an app that adds tabpages into a tabcontrol which has a several controls on each tabpages. However how do I access those controls?lets say the controls I add are named label1 and label2. the tabpage is named infoTab1.
If I do inftoTab.infoTab1.label1.Text = "some text" I get an error saying infoTab is not a member of 'system.windows.forms.tabcontrols' cause in design time it isn't added yet.So how is this actually done? am I on the right track?Any tutorials are more then welcome, tried google but only get basic concept stuff comes out it or trying the wrong keywords.

VS 2008 Accessing Dynamically Created Picturebox?
Mar 22, 2012For school and other reasons, i am making an application in which the user can draw tile based backgrounds, to then turn into long line of code , i think called CSV , which can then be used in programs such as flash, to draw a tile based background. I am currently making a flash game, and dont really like the other tile array making programs out there.
For instance, code such as [1,0,1],[0,1,0],[1,0,1] with the correct code would generate a 3x3 tile background with an X shape.Anyway, at the moment i am currently stuck.I have code up and running which generates a 2 dimensional background out of pictureboxes randomly, however thats as far as i got, i dont know how to access the pictureboxes created.
What i have right now is two variables, gridX and gridY, which determine the amount of tiles placed in a for loop. These variables would be used to determine the size of multidimensional arrays that store the tile data, and determine the map size.i intended each image to be clickable, so that its picture would change from black to white when clicked
When clicked, the tile would switch between two images, to represent two different tiles. at the same time, a value in an array created with the tile, would change from 1 to 0.Then when its time to make the code, i simply use a for loop to spit out the array in the way i want.
I understand that i could perhaps create a class for the pictureboxes, but i dont know how to, since ive never dealt with them, and i dont understand any of the guides and tuts.how to use a class so that i could add and change the properties of multiple dynamically created pictureboxes, but also change the value of an array created with the picturebox, when clicked?
i need all of this to be done however without adding or including any additional libraries or anything to visual basic as it will be graded on school computers.

Oct 15, 2011I have some variables that are distinct by numbers, like in1, in2...If I have for loop, how would I access those variables, using the counter, and attaching it to the variable?I believe in JAVA, you could just use in+ct... where ct is the counter to access the variable.also how could you make a new variable in the for loop?Initially I had variables declare outside of the for loop. The problem was how to access those variables using the for loop.

Accessing Public Class Variables In Asp.net Without Session?

How could I access the vartest variable without using a session, since if this is accessed by multiple functions at the same time the variable can be overwritten I assume. Is it possible to go the other way, where a variable is sent to a class file?

Feb 15, 2009I have created a public shared subroutine in a class file in asp.net 2 (vb.net) web site app_folder.The subroutine retrives some values from a sql database via an sql query and assigns the datareader field values to several variables The problem is I can't seem to assign the variables from the subroutine to the variables and textbox controls in the asp.net page I am calling the subroutine from. The textbox text value just appear blank.By the way, if I response.write the variables in the subroutine they appear populated by the sql data reader.

Visual Studio - .NET Accessing Class Variables In Dictionary?

EDIT:I just realized that Array in info needs to be a Dictionary for an associative array, so please ignore that error and just assume it is a Dictionary for this question's sake.
VS 2008 : Accessing Variables Within A Sub - Updating Process List?
Sep 1, 2009I have a Public Sub I am using to enumerate running processes and then display them in a ListView.I want to be able to update the list automatically each second. I've thought of doing this in two different ways, but the method that I want to use is checking if the process has exited or not.
When reading up on the Process Properties, I ran into .HasExited and .Refresh.I thought that I could use a timer and have it tick at 1 second intervals. I would then check, each second, if the Process has exited. If it has, remove it from the list.The problem with this, is that I don't want to put the sub in the timer because it would just constantly flicker the control. I need to figure out a way to access the variables inside of the Sub while inside of the Timer's .Tick event.The other issue is being able to add processes that aren't there. Which I can within another sub. I was thinking I could create a sub that grabbed the Processes by ID, compare them to the list, and them add them if they aren't there. If I did this, I could also remove Processes by ID that aren't in the list.

May 4, 2012I want to monitor more than 10 folders on different machines by using SysTemFileWatcher. I create a class called Watcher for doing monitoring. So, for each folder I have to call that class once with a new thread. I want to name each thread with its own name like: T1, T2, T3 ... for easier controlling them. It is not nice if I declare each thread like:

Dynamically Concatenate Public Variables?
Mar 10, 2012This seems basic but here's my problem. I am trying to build my connect string as a public variable that will connect to either an express version of SQL Server or a non-express version. The app.config defines it as being express or not and is modified to the user's choosing when it is deployed using the a firstRun routine.
The problem is that even though I'm modifying the value of the variable SQLexpress when the app is initiated which in turn should modify the value of the variable g_strConnectionString it doesn't. The value of g_strConnectionString will always take on the initial value of SQLexpress. I know I can define 2 separate variables for the connection string but I'd prefer not to have to change all of the references throughout each of the various programs in this system as they all have the same issue.
So in the following load event I've traced it and when it sets globals.SQLexpress = "", I then look at the value of g_strConnectionString and it still contains "SQLEXPRESS". It seems I need to somehow force vb to refresh this variable after it's been changed.

VS 2010 Accessing Same Form But For Different Actions?
Jun 12, 2012I have a datagridview on a form and this shows up my list of suppliers. I have a textbox which when i click shows up the supplier list and from there when i double click on a row, the supplier's name is shown in the textbox. The thing is i have to do same on the same page for search purposes which got its own textbox. But the cell double-click event already contains code that will display it in some other textbox like i mentioned previously. What i thought is to make another form with a datagridview. So this datagridview will be used to display the supplier's name in search textbox. But what if i have to access this form several times. Do i have to create several forms everytime?

VS 2010 Express Accessing Files?
Jun 1, 2011My problem is that I have a program which needs to access images for multiple choice questions, hundreds of them. Now when I publish the program it is not taking the images with it. I have read some information by 'kleinma' regarding publishing and he says to right click on the Bin and click include in project, but when I do this there is no command in the menu for this.
I have included all of my image files in the Bin and have also added them using the resource editor, but to no avail As I have indicated it is the Express edition, could this make a difference
Accessing MySQL Database Through 2010 Express
Sep 16, 2011I am trying to follow this userguide url... to basically build an application that will allow users to connect to my database, from an exe file. I'll try to explain as best i can. The plan is, users will launch an exe file that i have built in Visual Basic(VB) 2010 Express. When they launch the application they will see a 'login screen'.I am following the example guide (see link above), and will customise it once i can connect to the database. For some reason whenever i connect to the database it gives me two errors, the first is if i use the 'debug' mode in VB to test the script (note it doesn't produce any build errors), the second is if i build the application and run it as my users would.
1)Error Connecting to Database:Access denied for user 'mike'@'92.**.**.***' (using password:YES)
2)Error Connecting to Database:Unable to access any of the specified MySQL hosts..The ip address starred out (*) is my local machine ip address.The server is the server in which my Database runs on. 'mike' is a listed user on my 'user' table, the password i use is the password assigned to this user on my table.
3)I've rebuilt the whole VB project, but still no joy, wern't expecting it to as there were no errors generated.
4) I've read, but don't really understand that it could be something to do with my database not being able to be controlled remotely, only locally. I started digging into 'Access Your MySQL Server Remotely Over SSH', didn't really know if i was going completely off the mark, it didn't mention needing to do any of this in the guide i've been following, but just a thought. It might be the case as i've tried to access my database through a programme called MySQL Administrator. I punch in the host,username etc and connect to my database, for some reason it won't allow me to add new users, could this be because i can't control my database remotely? Would this stop what i'm trying to do working?
5) When trying to install the MySQL.Data.dll file i had great difficulty in choosing one and finding it, adding it to my project using the 'Add reference' in VB. Finnally got it how it should be (i think), installed MySQL.Data.dll Ver 6.1.2.0 into my project.

Feb 19, 2012I have some code that gets the documenttext of the current page in the browser, the trouble is that im trying to use it in a backgroundworker so the ui remains responsive. Everything works fine as is If I run from a button click event, but in the background worker I get errors when trying to use the webbrowser.
