VS 2010 Sync 2 BindingSources On A Windows Form?
Aug 30, 2011
I am using VS 2010 and have a Window's form with 2 different BindingSources that are related with a primary and foreign key. The records I am accessing are coming from SQL Server and I want to be able to scroll through the records and have the two BindingSources in synch.
The form's main BindingSource is "INDUSERBindingSource" with a primary key, "PWIUNUM". The form's second BindingSource is "CTypeBindingSource" with the foreign key "PWIUNUM". The INDUSER source has text and combo boxes, while the CType source has a group of checkboxes. The records are all relational on the "PWIUNUM" key.
I have been trying several different things to synch the two BindingSources together on this key without any luck. I have searched several Internet sources also but haven't found anything like this.
My first thought was to connect the two BindingSources using their properties but I cannot figure out the correct method. I also played around with some code without any luck either.

My project has a single dataset with about 6 datatables. Each of those datatables has a TableAdapater and a Bindingsource on the main form (due to various databound controls).
Now, I want to have a second form for adding a new record. If I bind the controls to the datasource it creates new TableAdapaters and new Bindingsources on that form. I was wondering if it's possible to simply use the ones from the main form instead like this

The MSDN documentation for WMPLIB states that syncing to device is not supported in .NET programming, only C++.Is there, however, a simple wrapper class or DLL that can be used to interface between a .NET program and the nescessary C++ code?Or is there a better way to sync files to a device using VB.NET? Are all devices suited/compatible with just a simple filesystem.copyfile ?

With a Windows form that I would like to be a DDE server. I know that DDE is not natively supported in VS 2010/11 so I'm using the NDde.dll to add DDE functionality to this program.
Objective: Create a windows form to act as a Pop-up notification that has a textbox field. This textbox field must be selectable in order for users to copy a text string to the clipboard and paste into another program that does not support DDE.
Overview: A phone system has an on-screen agent program that triggers a pop-up form, the DDE Server, when an incomming call is presented. When the agent accepts the call the agent program, acting as a DDE Client, registers a DDE session, Application=phnserver and Topic=callerid. Then communicates an "OnExecute" command to the DDE Server followed by a number string. This string should be presented on the pop-up form in a text box. Once the call is completed the agent application will issue a command to close the pop-up form.
Below is my current code.

This sounds like a dumb question, but I'm using VS 2010 Express edition and cannot find where to add a new Windows form. The templates provided don't indicate a Windows form . Are they called something different in this version of VS?

I'm using VB 2010, accessing a MS Access database. I have constructed a simple Windows Form returning data from the db, one field of which has a reference to an image I'm trying to display together with the data from each individual record.
I have a field with a product number, that matches the jpg file name (ie, the product number 5505 matches an image that I want to display, namely 5505.jpg). I've even created a new field in the db called 'Image', that contains the full name 5505.jpg.
So, I've connected to the db with an OleDbAdapter, and all the data fields are displayed via bound textboxes. I've been able to display a single 'set' image with a PictureBox, but I'm not sure how the make the connection between the returned data (txtSearchImage which is, say, '5505.jpg'), and getting the Windows Form to display this.
Am I on the right track using a PictureBox? I've tried binding this via the PictureBox properties to the relevant data field, but (obviously) it doesn't make the connection to the image file on my hard drive.
Here's my code so far:
Public Class Form1
Private Sub btnSearchKits_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSearchKits.Click
' The following line passes the value the user enter for state

I need some guidence to determine how to use DPAPI to encrypt passwords and server entries in the app.config. All examples I came across seem to refer to 3.5 and earlier, VS 2008, platforms. Does anyone have an example that will work for VS2010 in 4.0?

Working on a project trying to use mysql and Visual Studio C++ 2010. I have an established connection to the database on a server using a connection string. My issue is I am not sure how to get the retrieved data displayed in dataGridView. Below is where I have my code for the button named Search. Right now all I am trying to do is get already inserted information out and displayed. Not sure if I am utilizing the dataGridView correctly or if there is another way. When I select bind to database I do not show any data sources even though in my server explorer window I show that I am connected. I have googled my eyes out and still havent found any information relating to a non console application. Here is some code that worked and returned a value of 1 to a textbox just stating that it had no errors in the execution. [code]

Is it easier to print a VB.net windows form in Visual Studio 2010?
I have been struggling with this - the PrintForm utility in the Powerpack only prints the displayed portion of the current form.
I spent a lot of time creating a process which loops through each control on my form, converts to a bitmap, and drops it on the print document, only to finally discover that the RichTextBox control (which I used extensively) does not include a functional DrawToBitmap method.
I have already researched various ways of managing this, but if VS2010 will do it without jumping through the hoops then I'll spring for it like the sucker I am.
I can do this in Access and VB6, I believe, so I don't think this is an unreasonable expectation.

I have a project that will need several forms with a similar structure - a Data Grid View control, a few buttons and some textboxes. They are not similar enough to use just one form and change things programatically so I would like to create a "template" and add several copies of it into my project. My first attempts have failed miserably, ending up with lots of "conflicts" and "duplicate items".
So, how should I save a form from my existing project in such a way that I can then load in multiple copies (giving them suitably different names) without having name conflicts?

one of the apps that I wrote a couple months ago is getting to be rolled out to my production floor; one issue tho - It works great as a standard executable (you double-click, it starts and waits for data), however, I cannot get it to start as a system service.
I've already done a little bit of research for how to create a system service, but most of the information that I've come across is point to VC# or Visual Studio 2010 - I'm not finding much for VB 2010. Additionally, I'm only using VB 2010 Express and I'm pretty sure that I don't have the Windows Service application template's on my PC.
My application does have a "UI", but there isn't any user interaction; it starts and just sits minimized in the system tray polling a directory for the existence of a file - i.e. the windows form is not required.

I then created an instance of the Print Form class from the Microsoft Power Pack and am trying to get the form I filled with data to print but no matter what I've tried it just prints the command console window.

I am having this strange thing happen where I have a Module that contains multiple classes in my project. In the Solution Explorer, the module shows up as a Windows Form and if I double click on it to open it, it tries to open the Form Designer. What could be causing VS to think that it is a Windows Form instead of a module?

I've decided to learn Visual Basic .Net as this is what some of my colleagues work with, and this will allow me to work with them on projects.I have purchased Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Step by Step and downloaded the sample files. When I am trying to debug the first sample application (a Windows form), it is telling me that it can't load System.Drawing V4.0.0.0. However, if I create a new Windows Form application (C# or VB.Net) this works fine.
I had a look at the References tab in the project settings and System.Windows.Forms is referenced, but the version referenced is 2.0.0.0. I have removed and re-added this reference and it stays at 2.0.0.0 and I still get the error.Does anybody have any ideas as to what may be going on?

They want to see all the details in one form. I had implemented MDI but they want something like tabs. On different tabs different forms should be displayed. How shall I implement this.
