I would like to manually access and update an Access Database without using bound user interface objects
For example:
1) Open the Database (eg: AJAXMAIN.ACCDB)
2) Create a Dataset of one of the tables in the database (eg: Contacts)
3) Loop through all records in that table and edit one of the fields
4) Update the table while completing the edit of each record.
While the code for doing this in VB6 is eazy peazy the code for doing it in VB2008 escapes.

Now I am trying to go backward and convert the mdb file to a txt or csv. Is it possible to simply reverse the code so to speak and use it that way? below is the code that I am using to convert from txt to csv. I created a background thread that get's data and returns it to the main thread; this works. Now I want to be able to stop the SQL request from the main thread (probably on a button click). This is my test code for creating the thread (working):

How can I access the background thread to stop the query on demand? Do I need to set a flag on the main thread telling the background thread to stop running then have the background thread poll the main thread at intervals? I was trying to look for an example but I wasn't able to find a good one.

I think my problem in my code is the savefiledialog1. I tried running the code without it and it works. There's no error.
I also remove the if condition in the .ShowDialog and it worked. But when I press the cancel button, the code still runs.

Write code or use tableadaptors, bindingsources, dataset, etc.? I have experience with the older ways i.e. connection strings, ado code, sql, etc. but was hoping the newer tools in vs would make the user interface easier and more flexible. So far i have been disappointed. Am I wrong and I am missing something? Am I alone in this opinion or ? What is your past experience in VB and have you found vb.net to be a step forward in db user interface design? if your answer is yes then what is the easiest way to put a table record count into a text box? should i bypass all the new stuff/objects ( adaptors, binding sources, navigators, designers, etc) and just write code or what?

I have a text file data to insert into a database for report

Let me briefly list down the steps i took to achieve my result.
1) Insert data into Database using text file
2) Display the records from the NEW Database(Item2) using DataGridView
3) Using datagridview, i use to checkboxes to determine the selectedRow
4) Once the selectedRow are selected. I press on Delete Button
Delete Button - Update the Item2 Table field 'Deleted' to 1 - Delete the ItemID by using datagridview selectedrow cell value Which means in 1 loop, i process two database transaction.. Is there something wrong? How do i shorten the process to just delete the item without querying two database.

I can save my data to access database and in the access database field I set it to date/time.But problem is when I get the value out from the database.. the format is always month/day/year hour:minutes:seconds example today: 5/2/2011 12:00:00..How to get the value into listview becoming May/2/2011 without the hour..Here's my code to get it from database ListView1.Items(i).SubItems.Add(dt.Rows(i)(14).ToString).The second problem is.When I would like to edit, how can the datetimepicker get the listview value ? I wish to create a stored procedure with multiple select statements. In addition, I then want to access each of the statements on the page load event. The purpose of the statements is to create multiple 'counts', and a number of labels on the page will each contain an individual returned count. At the moment I have created a basic stored procedure with two select statements:

If I run a SQL statement or execute a stored procedure from SQL Mgmt Studio, I will get two tabs: Results and Messages.I am lookig to return EXACTLY whats in the messages (the tab I'd see in SQL Mgmt Studio)window to a string variable. Is there a property in ADO.NET (maybe in the command object?)that contains the messages returned from a stored procedure? I am using VB 2008.

I have two Access database, say database One.mdb and Two.mdb. I want to use VB2005 to export tblCustomer from One.mdb to Two.mdb, and replace the existing tblCustomer in Two.mdb, during run time. I basically want to simulate the export function that is available in MS Access (which can export one table from one Access database to another) with VB2005 during run time. I can think of a way by querying the table to a dataset and then delete everything on the other database before filling the table in that database with the dataset

I am trying to import data from an access database to a access database that my project uses I am having problems with combo box fields in the database with the data. I want to import what is displayed instead of the numerical key value. Example: The combo box displays employee names but the value stored is the key value from the employee table so instead of importing John Doe it imports 2 is there a way to make the actual name instead of the number?

I am attempting to create a tier application. Im wondering which approach would be better to take on. Should i have stored procedures on the database and then call these from my Data Access Layer (this is when you right click your dataset and add a table adapter, select existing stored procedures or create the entire query in my Dataset under TableAdapter?
My reason for asking is because my Stored procedures are created to insert and update in one command (by using an If statement), but saw the other approach recently. Any reason for one over the other?

I have an app written in vb2005 that allows users to search a sql database for a store name. Once a store is selected, it then presents the user with 12 different tabs, each with a DataGridView showing various bits of info about the store. It's a large and convoluted database, so I'm using stored proceedures to pull the data for each tab. Here's a sample of one of the subs that populates the tabs.[code...]
Now, this works just fine to populate the grids on the tabs, and the same code is copied into each of the subs that fill the grids (changing the stored proc, parameter and grid names, of course). The problem I'm having is how to move changes made to the data in the grid back into the database.
I have stored procs that do this (and the procs do work), I just can't seem to figure out how to trigger the stored proc when the user makes a change.
If it matters, there is only a grid on each tab, I did not use a binding source as I am trying to keep an abstraction layer between the data and the app. I did create a dataset, which is how I gain access to the stored procs, but I left the grids unbound and (as seen in my code) bind them at run time.

I'm working on a .NET component that gets a set of data from the database, performs some business logic on that set of data, and then updates single records in the database via a stored procedure that looks something like spUpdateOrderDetailDiscountedItem.
For small sets of data, this isn't a problem, but when I had a very large set of data that required an iteration of 368 stored proc calls to update the records in the database, I realized I had a problem. A senior dev looked at my stored proc code and said it looked fine, but now I'd like to explore a better method for sending "batch" data to the database.
What options do I have for updating the database in batch? Is this possible with stored procs? What other options do I have? I won't have the option of installing a full-fledged ORM,Additional Background Info:Our current data access model was built 5 years ago and all calls to the db currently get executed via modular/static functions with names like ExecQuery and GetDataTable. I'm not certain that I'm required to stay within that model, but I'd have to provide a very good justification for going outside of our current DAL to get to the DB.
Also worth noting, I'm fairly new when it comes to CRUD operations and the database. I much prefer to play/work in the .NET side of code, but the data has to be stored somewhere, right?

I have a stored procedure on an oracle database called : GET_HVE_PACKAGE_VERSIONS This basically calls versions of PLSQL packages as stores the versions into a table. I am having big problems trying to call this procedure. I have tried everything. I am currently able to create and update etc etc using the executeNonQuery method and I thought that I would be able to call a procedure them same way, obviously not
