Vb 6.0 To .Net Conversion W.r.t FormActivated Event?

We are converting a Visual Basic 6.0 application to vb.net 2008 and are having an issue, while executing the code under "form activated event". There is a difference in behavior between form.activate in Visual Basic 6.0 and form.activated in vb.net. In Visual Basic 6.0, the Activate event was raised only when switching between forms in the application; in Visual Basic .NET, the Activated event also is raised in case of showing messagebox and when switching from other applications.(by msdn)In vb6 application the purpose to use form activate event is, to execute some code when forms become active. In our application forms are loaded, hide and show in different flows. So whenever this form is shown from hide state or any of its child form return focus to it, we need to reflect different changes in the application to the specific form controls.
* For example user changes its application preferred language.
* As the application is huge, so shifting logic to other place with respect to the current scenario might solve the problem for the current form but then I have to re think it for all other forms (which is very hectic and more or less not feasible).
In the migration process it is required to make as little changes in the existing code execution hierarchy. So we need a similar behavior like form.activate in vb6.0 with some other event or restrict some functionality of Activated event in vb.net.

Porting an application from C# (1.1 framework) to VB.NET (3.5 framework), and I have this one last event based issue I cannot get my head around.

The SpecialLogWriter constructor is expecting a SpecialEventHandler, but the Me.SpecialEvent in the constructor of SpecialLogWriter gives me the error message that this is an event and cannot be called directly.
Am I missing another delegate, or is this just one of this declaration issues between the languages?

Visual Studio 2010 I am trying to learn Caliburn Micro. The sample project is presented in C# only (and runs OK) I have tried several on-line C# to VB converters, without success. Well the conveersion runs without error - - - but the Visual Studio editor chokes on the results. The principal problem seems to be with (what looks to me like) a Lambda. Advanced code conversions are really tough in any case, - but when you do not know C# nearly impossible.

I'm creating a program in VB.net that does the following:At a high level I receive a file in email, put the attachment in a monitored folder, import the text file to excel, format the excel, and then email the excel file to a list of recipients.
Here is my plan:
Completed: Outlook VBA to monitor all incoming email for specific message. Once message is received drop attached .txt file in a specific network folder.
Completed: (VB.net) Monitor folder, when text file is added begin processing
Not Complete: (VB.net) Import text file to Excel
Not Complete: (VB.net) Format Excel Text file.(add in a row of data,format column headers with color/size, add some blank columns, add data validation to some of the blank columns that allow drop down selections)
Completed: (VB.net) Save file.
Completed: (VB.net) Send file to list of recipients.
Obviously the items above that are not complete are the bulk of the work, but I wanted to get some advice on what some of you think would be the best way to approach something like this. The import and formatting of the file are causing me some problems because I just can't decide what would be the most efficient way to do this.
The way stated above. Import to excel -> format Having a template excel that contains all of the formatting already done for me and attempting to transition the data to this document (no clue if/how I can do this). Is it even feasible? Have the template already created and then import the text file to a new excel file, then transition that data to the excel template?
Something I thought about, in terms of formatting the document, was to record a macro of me doing all of the formatting that I'm going to need and then attempt to convert that macro into my vb.net code, but I'm not sure if that will work. I will need to verify that the text file comes in the EXACT format every time correct?

Here's 2 questions that I hope someone can help me on. This is in VB.net. I keep on getting this error 'java.io.bufferedInputstream.count is not accessible in this context because it is 'Protected Friend'. Does anyone know how to fix this error?

I've read thru Iceplug's tutorial on control arrays and got it working. I tried to add a new event by basically copying his click event code and calling it a doubleclick event. I used the proper addhandler and assigned the correct name to my sub. I have the click event changing the background color to blue and the doubleclick event changing the background color to green. The background color does not change to green. Why?

I'm trying to validate a few things in a form I'm building. It has a datagrid with clients info (taken from an access database) and a few textboxes where the user can type some search criteria. The thing is that those same textboxes are used to add new clients to the database and to modify a client's information if one from the datagrid is selected, so I made it that the buttons to insert and modify clients are disabled on load and thenevery time the text on a textbox changes ("TextChanged" event) they become enabled. So far so good. But then I wanted to make it so when a client from the datagrid is selected both buttons become disabled again until the text on a textbox changes (to make sure they're adding a different client and not the same one that was
selected).
I tried using the CellClick event from the datagrid to disable the buttons, but since every time a client is selected from the datagrid the info is shown on the textboxes, this triggers the TextChanged event too, and the buttons become available.So, is there a way I can tell the TextChanged event not to be triggered when the CellClick event occurs?

To avoid freezing the UI, I read that the best solution is to move the code from a While/Sleep loop to a Timer that will be triggered every minute. Starting from my understanding about Background worker control, I understands that the background worker runs the code in its "DoWork" method in a seperate thread, while ProgressChanged and RunWorkerCompleted events are executed on the main thread.In my senerio, I report the progress and under an specail condition my application displays a message box to the user in "ProgressChanged" method using MessageBox.Show(). and in "Run Worker Completed" event the application finalize some work. There the sequence is important, suppose that the message is of Yes or No type and finalization depends on it. Now when i run my application, the background worker triggers "ProgressChanged", but as soon as backgroundWorker's cancelAsync() is called the program leaves the current "ProgressChanged" method and executes "RunWorkerCompleted" code first.How can i make sure that the "Run Worker Completed" code executes only after the completion of ProgressChanged method.

I am making a function of an application that when a function is called the application will close all processes that are owned by the user and were started after a specific point. My thoughts on this would be to trigger an event in my application every time a process is started and ended, and only if the processes is owned by the user, the event should get information (e.g. the process ID, name, etc) about that process and add or remove that information to/from an array depending on if the process starts or ends. Then when a function is called end all the processes in that array.

I have a Visual Basic Program that, when I enter data into a textbox, uses LEAVE events to update it. However, it will not update until I go to another textbox or press a button or other similar control.This also happens when using the LOST FOCUS event.How can I make the textbox update (be it doing a financial recalculation or some other custom function) happen when the user clicks/tabs out of the textbox and NOT having to click on a button or into another textbox?Do you recommend having a separate button for performing the custom functions?

Can i Know how to catch between these 2 event, Leave and Click?
I have one checking in a textbox Leave event. I will go check whether this ID is already exist in DB or not. If exist, I will prompt MSG box to user.
When I click on Close button while focus is on textbox, this textbox Leave Event will trigger first before Button Click event.
So, the form remains open without trigger Button Click event.

I just want to know if there any equivalent event (ADO. NET VS 2008) event as in MS ACCESS Form's OnCurrent Event.
The reason is I like to make some calculations based on some data bound controls with current datarow data when user clicked a row in DataGridView (or by using bindingNavigator). I've tried with DatagridView's RowEnter event. But some Data bound controls are not yet reflect the data of current datarow when that evet was fired.
In MSDN Help File: It says "RowEnter Event: Occurs when a row receives input focus but before it becomes the current row. "

I have alot of experience in working in VBA for excel, but not so much experience in creating my own structures so it's all still a bit foggy. I'm trying to capture the event for when the F1 key is pressed, not just when the form is active, but anytime the program is running.
