I have a datagridview for user's input. For example, the columns are "Name", "Date of Birth"... For the "Date of Birth" part, i have implemented validaion... i want to make it that user have to enter a valid "Date of birth" before they are allowed to leave the Cell. View 7 RepliesI have a process serves as an application updater.It checks it's local cache of files and compares this against list of files online.On it's first run there are no files in the local cache and it therefore downloads ~100 of these files.[code]This appears to work very well, since Explorer confirms that all files are extracted and available.However when I later run this process again, it cannot verify the existence of 6 of these files and therefore tries to download them despite the fact that they are clearly both present and up to date.The offending code is a simple File.Exists call which appears to deny the local existence of these files, and therefore tries to get them again.The system continues to work well, but over time the continual downloading of these 6 files is going to get kind of silly.
View 1 RepliesI've recently created a MVC 3 ASP.net application (using VB). I have also created forms validation by running aspnet_regsql. I used this to create the table in the same database as my application uses. I am trying to work out how to create a new model, with a FK from the Users table. Do I have to reverse engineer the validation tables to create models in my application? right now, the tables only exist on the SQL 2008 database, as they were created by running the aspnet_regsql command, and do not exists as models in my ASP.net solution. Here is the code I have now, for a model I would like to add a FK to (as a one-to-many relationship):

It seems I'm missing something, I was hoping someone can help with the XMLwriting calls and maybe even explain a little bit of what those attributes are doing.

I'm writing out an XML file using VB.net. When I try to create another element to be written past the first, it errors out saying:
"Token StartElement in state EndRootElement would result in an invalid XML document. Make sure that the ConformanceLevel setting is set to ConformanceLevel.Fragment or ConformanceLevel.Auto if you want to write an XML fragment."
I'm not sure why it is doing this considering that the previous element has been closed. I tried to look for a writer.WriteEndRootElement, but I didn't see any in there. Any suggestions to get it to work?

I have a requirement to make an XML file - and the partner is rather sticky about the header. Apparently, the header must be exactly this:[code...]
The hacker in me wants to stop using XMLWriter to make the file so that I have more control over the header; "no problem, I'll just write a loop that makes its own XML tags as a StreamWriter or something, forget this XMLWriter object..." but I must admit that XMLWriter has been rather elegant to use so far; surely there must be something where I can change the XMLWriterSettings object to say "stop putting your custom properties in to the XML header please", right?

I want to be able to output the XML to a TextBox control on a ASP.NET webform. When I do output the XML I don't get any line breaks or indentation in the XML. The XmlWriter does not seem to have any properties to set formatting. Is there anyway to retain formatting and indentation?

why the xmlwirter writes an extra "?" at the begining of the xml. [code] And this is the output. Note the red "?" at the beginning of the xml. Upon close examination, it's a Chr(239) but in console application, it is shown as the "?" [code]

View 2 RepliesI have a huge amount of data in flat-file format that I would like to validate with Visual Basic 2010. Basically the data is a text file with 300 comma separated fields and 500,000 records.
Any tips, sample code or examples? Are any .NET classes specifically geared for data validation?
As I have different validation rules for each field (some fields are dates, some are currency, etc.) I would like to store the rules away from the code (e.g. in an SQL database table). Has anyone seen this done before?
I have to make a basic program that: Create a program with a simple interface that
1. Asks the user type his/her email address into a textbox.
2. When the user clicks the "Evaluate Email Address" button, one of two message boxes pops up: "That is a valid email address!" with an "Information" icon, or "That is an invalid email address!" and on a second line, "Please retype your email address.", with an "Exclamation" icon
3. To be considered valid, the email address must -include an "@" symbol, and -it must end in either ".com", ".net", or ".org" or ".edu" (I don't know how to check a string and test if its last four characters end with any of these and make it say not valid email address. I think I might have to use a case statement)

I have a VB windows Form project that connects to several DataTables in an Access DB. On my form I have several textboxes, comboboxes and datetimepickers that are bound to those sources. With one table in particular when I try to update the tableadapter after editing one of the textboxes the update method fails. No exceptions are thrown, but the update method returns a zero value and the data is not updated. The update will work when just the comboboxes or datetimepickers are edited, but as soon as a textbox is edited also, update will not work.
Other DataTables within the project are set up in the same manner but are not having update issues. I can't figure out what about this one particular table is causing an issue. Can anyone give me any thoughts on where or what to troubleshoot?

I am working on a mdi project and I have a few different xml files that I need to read in and I would really like to use multiple datatables, but only one dataset. I have always struggled to get a datatable.readxml(filename) call to work without an invalidoperationexception b/c of the schema stuff. I don't understand it very well and in the past my workaround was just to make another dataset. I am trying to avoid doing that from now on. I have written a routine called readxml which will take a xml file name, xml schema file name, and a datatable name and return to you a populated datatable..but I can't get it to work.

I do an dns test before i send mail to ensure i dont get errors.But there is a problem, when i try to send an email to an adress xxxxx@eco-log.sei get an error from the dns function. when i try to delete the "-" in the mail adress it works.at first i tohught it was because of the "-", but i made an email at zzzzzz@eh-design.se and it works like a charm, what could be the problem then? It is 100% sure that "xxxxx@eco-log.se" is an existing email/dns.The error message im getting is "No such known source"(freely translated)
