Unit Test Inconsistent Pass Or Fail Result?

May 16, 2011

One of my unit tests seems to randomly pass or fail when I run it. The only thing that makes sense to me for why this is happening is if the data in the database is getting into a different state each time the test is ran, but I use transactions to rollback the database in each test - unless it's not working right. Here's my base unit test class and the unit test class that's having the problem. Can you see anything I might be missing or what else I should look for?

This happens with TestDriven.Net and the Visual Studio Unit Test Framework.

Pass An Integer Variable From The Sub To The Function

I don't think I fully understand passing values from a sub to a module. Here is what I'm trying to do (problem is at the '****):

I think I've seen something like this before - where the actual function returns a value. Is this possible? Or would I have to pass an integer variable from the sub to the function, and then return it back to the sub?

Pass Integer Array To C++ Active Control?

Mar 12, 2009

I'm using VB.NET within Visual Studio 2008.I have a ActiveX control on my form that contains a method that takes an Array. In VB6 I just passed in the array and it was populated OK. When I do the same in VB.NET, I get a result but the value of each index appears to be a pointer. Here is the C++ method code...

void CMyCtrl::GetRowInfo(const VARIANT FAR& vArray, short sNumRows)
{
// Declaretemp array to put the row list into
short asRowList[24];

[code]....

Here is the VB code (same VB6 and VB.NET...

Dim maintRowList(0 To 23) As Integer
AxMyCtrl.GetRowInfo(maintRowList, 24)

In VB6, the value of maintRowList(0) is in the range 0 to Windows screen height(its a pixel value)In VB.NET the value of maintRowList(0) is a value that looks like a pointer to me (e.g 285671429).In VB.NET, the type of the 1st parameter is Object. In VB6 it is a Variant. I've tried AxMyCtrl.GetRowInfo(maintRowList(0), 24) and got the same result. I think I need to get a pointer to either the array or the first element of the array but I can't see a way to do that. how I can pass an array to this type of C++ ActiveX method?BTW - I cannot change the ActiveX code so the solution must be within VB.NET.

C# - Pass An Integer As A String Parameter To A Method Without Calling .ToString()?

Mar 12, 2010

In VB.NET, it is entirely possible to pass an integer as a string parameter to a method without calling .ToString() - it's even possible to call .ToString without the ()'s. The code will run without a problem, VB will interpret the integer as a string without having been told to. In C#, these would cause compilation errors - you are required to call .ToString() and to call it correctly in that situation before it will compile. Is there a way to make the VB compilation process check for the same things as the C# compilation process? Would it be best practice in a mixed team to force this check?

.net - Create And Pass Custom Function As A Delegate?

Aug 5, 2009

I have a function Process(data, f) where data is a normal parameter and f is a function needed to process the data (passed as a delegate to Process)

The signature of f is int f(a,b,c), with a, b, c supplied by Process when it calls the delegate.

Up until here, standard delegate usage.

Now, I have a special but common case where I would like to call Process with a constant f function. So I would like to write SimpleProcess(data, k) so that the caller does not need to create a delegate in this case, just pass the constant k (the only information needed).

So I need to dynamically create a constant function, g(a,b,c) which takes 3 parameters (which are ignored) and always returns k. This has to be done within the SimpleProcess function, so that I can then simply call Process(data, g) from within that function, without the need to rewrite the whole Process function for this special case.

Create A New Instance Of The Moblist Class Each Pass?

Jan 13, 2011

I have an application that reads another processes memory.I initially had multiple scanning threads for the various areas I needed to read. This was processor intensive so I decided to go with the observer pattern. All was well except that I am having a weird behavior. Here is what is happening.I have 2 radars (overlay and mapped)Both have a watcher class that attaches to the memory scanner and is notified on a new list of mobs.so I open radar 1 (mapped) it attaches it's watcher to the scanner and waits for mob list update notifications

Open radar 2 (overlay). same thing happens and another watcher is attached.all is well and good so far.Now there are properies on the mobs in the list, one of which is IsFilteredOut.This property is set in the radar code after it receives the list. Now the weird behavior is that no matter what I do, the second radar to be opened changes all the properties of the mobs in the list of both radars. It is as if I am passing the list by ref, but I am not.I actually create a new instance of the moblist class every time I pass the list. Here is the notify code. As you can see I create a new instance of the moblist class each pass.

Private Sub NotifyMobListUpdated(ByVal Mobs As List(Of MobData))
If Mobs IsNot Nothing Then
For Each w As Watcher In _watchers[code].....

Pass The Id Of The Parent To The Create View Of A Child?

Sep 30, 2010

I'm new to MVC2 and my question should be pretty basic. At least I thought so until I could'nt find any answer on the web, so here I am.

I have a parent object Pool that can have 0 to many children Question.

In my Details view of Pool, in addition to the Pool's property, I render his childs using RenderAction on the Question action List, so far, so good.

Inside my List view of Question (which is always rendered inside the Details view), I want a button to start the Create action of the Question object. My problem is, I don't know how to pass the Pool object, which is the model of my Details view, to the Create action so that I can link my Question to the right Pool.

Is there a way to access the "Master" Model inside the "included" view via RenderAction and if not, what's the best way to implement a work around.

ASP.Net MVC 3 Razor - Create And Pass Info To A Dynamic Layout?

Jan 10, 2011

In other languages (PHP/Python), I am used to creating a class which represents a given HTML page layout. These classes can have an unlimited number of attributes and dynamic features, such as Navigation (multi level), error messages, info messages, footer text, etc... Most of these items have defaults, but may be overridden on a per-page level. For example:

[Code]....

My question is: how do I implement similar functionality into ASP.Net MVC 3 Razor (VB)? So far, I have been able to see how you can use ViewData to pass various bits of data to a view. Also, I have been working with strongly typed views. Frankly, I'm not sure who's job it is to have this logic, the controller or the view (or is there a model that should be in there somewhere). Here is a summary of what I am shooting for:

A single place to initialize the default values for the layout (like the first layer of navigation, etc...) Strongly typed attributes, such as Public Readonly Property Nav1 as List(of NavElement) And a single place to render these layout elements (I assume _Layout.vbhtml) forgive the here-and-there of this post... I'm trying to figure out the "right way" it's done on a platform that is both new (Razor) and new to me (ASP.Net MVC).

Error After Implicit Conversion Of 1 Dimensional Array Of Integer To IEnumerable Of Integer() ) ?

Apr 25, 2011

I'm trying to create a linked list of an array of integers. Why is the following implicit conversion required?

When I run the code that contains that conversion, I get the following error.

As a real-time data acquisition user control data (a packet of an array of bytes) arrives every second, is converted into an integer array and inserted into a linked list.

The most recently arrived data is painted as coordinates on a grid at the right of a PictureBox using Graphics.DrawLine (pen,X1,Y1,X2,Y2).

The oldest data (arriving 120 seconds ago) will be drawn at the leftmost portion of the Picturebox.

Why a linked list rather than a list? To display 120 views of time sequence data, the draw routine the most recently inserted node to a node that points to Nothing. How do I limit the length of the linked list to 120 nodes and always ensure that the last node points to Nothing?

Do While Not item Is Nothing
item = item.NextItem

'AddressOf' Expression Cannot Be Converted To 'integer' Because Integer Is Not A Delegate Type

May 13, 2009

I'm trying to convert a VB6 project to .NET, but I get problems with some callback functions, and the following message comes up: "AddressOf' expression cannot be converted to 'integer' because integer is not a delegate type" I've seen several solutions to similar problems like this, but I am not able to understand this issue with delegates.

After the conversion, the code look like this:

Declare Function vsmsgwSetDataPackageCB Lib "vsmsgwW.dll" (ByVal PACKAGE As Integer, ByRef arg As Integer) As Integer
Dim arginitP As Integer

[Code]...

Which gives the error: Method 'Public Function PackageCB(HisNodeID As Integer, ByRef data() As Byte, ByVal length As Integer, ByRef arg As Integer) As Integer' does not have the same signature as delegate 'Delegate Function DelegatePackageCallback(hwnd As Integer, lparam As Integer) As Integer

Value Of Type 'System.Linq.IQueryable(Of Integer)' Cannot Be Converted To Integer?

Aug 11, 2011

I am new to EF Linq and I have been struggling with this query for a few days. From reading this forum, I have managed to get this far:

Dim noPic = (From f In myEntities.FriendLists
Where (f.UserID = Profile.ID)
Select f.FriendID).Except(From g In myEntities.GuestLists
Where g.EventID = _id
Select g.FriendID)

[Code]...

I am trying to get everybody from the FriendList who is not already on the GuestList to display in a Repeater control. After reading the forum I was able to append .First() to noPic at the myNoPic declaration and finally get a result but that only gave me the first element. Does anybody have any advice on how to accomplish this?
