Setting A Radio Button Value According To String Returned From Database. String Is 'Yes' Or 'No'

Jul 24, 2009

I have a radio button control on a web form. The members of my ListItem collection are
assigned the following.

Text No
Value 0

Text Yes
Value 1

So what I need to do, is to readd a varchar value from my database and if the column value returned equals 'Yes' then I need to select the radio button that has the assigned value of 1. Otherwise if the value read from the database is 'No', then I need to select the radio button assigned a value of 0

So how can I set the value for my radio button? I experimented and could not figure it out. The 'Yes' or 'No' value is stored in my database in the field ds.Tables("employee").Rows(0).Item("answer")

So I tried something like this which is not correct:

RadioButtonList1.Items.FindByValue(ds.Tables("employee").Rows(0).Item("answer") = "Yes").Equals(True)

Collection Editor For Runtime Use?

Dec 4, 2009

I'm using VS2008, writing an app in VB.Net (3.5 framework), and I have a custom control which recieves a collection (each item in the collection has an image, and 2 text fields). When populating this at design time, it's nice and easy to do either in code, or even better through the very useful "Collection Editor" (in terms of user friendliness, at least). What I'd like to do is give my end users a similar Collection Editor interface, on my main form, to be able to add to and remove from this collection in a similar way to how it's done in the IDE. This is new territory for me, and I really don't know how to achieve this

[2005] Setting ForColor On Text From A Disabled Textbox + Removing The Right Bar

Jan 7, 2009

As some of you are aware of, I am fairly new to VB.NET. I am trying to learn as much as I can. I have a textbox which is set to multiline. It's setup to accept a maximum of 500 characters (10 lines of 50). First of all, since it's size is fixed, how can I remove the right bar on the left as im not using it (the scrolling bar).

#2, once a user click on a button, I disable the textbox and display the text. I can set the background color, however it looks like when the textbox is disabled, text is gray and can't be changed. A fix I found is to use a label and hide the textbox, but are there any easier way ?

C# :: Collection Editor Within A User Control At Design Time?

Jun 8, 2009

I have a UserControl class in a Windows Application project. One of the properties of it is a collection of another class that I have defined. I can't seem to find a good example of how to get the standard collection editor working for it at design time.I got it working using some example code I found to a degree, but the data in my collection doesn't get saved. When I exit the form and open it back up in design time the data isn't there any more. Here is my class:

Public Class Gauge
Inherits Control
Private WithEvents _Captions As New CaptionCollection

Property Editor For Custom Property Is Disabled?

Jun 16, 2009

I have a problem with a property on a custom property of a class. Here is the actual code for the inherited form

Public Class Form : Inherits System.Windows.Forms.Form
Private _Active_Application As Custom.Classes.Active_Application = New Custom.Classes.Active_Application
<System.ComponentModel.EditorBrowsable(ComponentModel.EditorBrowsableState.Always)> _
Public Property Active_Application() As Custom.Active_Application

[code]....

but when i use a separate class to inherit the above class this property ('Active_Application', not Custom.Classes.Active_Applicaton) is disabled.

VS 2008 Adding ToolStrips To A Container During Design-time (via Collection Editor)

Oct 28, 2009

I am trying to extend the functionality of the ToolStripPanel control (which is a panel hosting ToolStrips that can be moved during design-time, as I'm sure you know). One thing I wanted to add was a 'ToolStrips' property, which would be a collection of ToolStrips the user can edit via the collection editor in the designer. So instead of manually placing ToolStrips on the ToolStripPanel via the toolbox, the user can just use the property to add/remove (or even edit) them. This is of course similar to how you add/remove/edit TabPages in a TabControl. So, I came up with this code, which I have used successfully in the past for other controls:

Public Class cToolStripPanel
Inherits ToolStripPanel
Private _ToolStrips As New ToolStripCollection(Me)[CODE]....

The cToolStripPanel control inherits the ToolStripPanel control and adds the ToolStrips property, which is of type ToolStripCollection. That class, in turn, inherits the Collection(Of ToolStrip). In the InsertItem method, I add the 'item' ToolStrip to the cToolStripPanel. Of course I also need to override the RemoveItem / ClearItems methods but that's for another time.I am 100% sure that this code should works, at least for other controls. If you replace ToolStrip with Button (for example), I can add buttons via the property during design-time just fine, exactly the way I want it.But it seems that ToolStrips are special. When I try to Add a toolstrip (via the collection editor Add button), a null reference exception occurs. I've been trying to debug this all day and I've finally come up with a possible candidate for the problem... (I've actually used design-time debugging for the first time ever, which was pretty cool, and which showed me that the InsertItem method is not run!)

I think the problem is that the collection editor cannot create a new instance of the ToolStrip class. I can remember when trying to inherit from the ToolStrip, I was forced to add a constructor, because the ToolStrip "has more than one constructor that can be called with no arguments".Perhaps this is causing my problem? Do I (and if yes, how?) have to somehow control the creation of a new instance of the ToolStrip? Or am I completely off track and that is not what is causing the problem? I'm sure that it's a problem with the ToolStrip class, since I can use the exact same method with other controls just fine. It's only when I change the type to ToolStrip that it starts getting angry at me....

Application Setting - Switch Main Server And Backup Connection String With Combobox

Mar 5, 2011

I have a little problem with application setting in VB.net 2008. I want to switch main server and backup server connection string with combobox. [Code] It did change the Application Setting connection string in the main form when combobox1 was changed. But the problem comes, when child form was called. On the child form there is DataGridView with Dataset using application connection string. Even the Backupserver was selected on the main form, child form dataset connection string doesn't change. I don't know how to pass the current connection string to child form dataset although it is set to use application setting.

Gui - Modify The Appearance Of A Disabled Button?

Jan 20, 2010

I'm disabling a button in vb.net and when I do, I cannot control the BackColor or ForeColor properties to change the appearance. I set new values for them but they don't get picked up. The disabled button looks almost exactly like my enabled buttons so you can't tell the difference. I'm using Flat Style buttons, but have tried changing this and it still doesn't seem to work. Is there some sort of trick to be able to do this?

Converting Textbox String - Application That Has 2 Textboxes And A Button

Jan 10, 2010

Basically I have an application that has 2 textboxes and a button. What I am trying to do is when the button is clicked, it takes an entered string from box one (which is validated to only accept numbers) adds 235 to it then converts it to hex and finally reverse the string and sets textbox two equal to that value. Note that the final string has to be eight digits so the string may needed to be padded with zeros before the string is reversed. With that said how could I go about doing this? Also I do plan to add 2 more textboxes and another button to undo this process but I am thinking if I can figure out do it one way writing the code to undo the process shouldn't be too hard.
