Deployment Of Encrypted App.config - Failed To Decrypt Using Provider
Apr 21, 2010I've created a console .Net application and encrypted the app.config file with RSAProtectedConfigurationProvider. It works fine in an IDE on my XP desktop. Then I deployed my application to a Windows 2003 server. The package included the app's executable along with the encrypted app.exe.config file.
However, the application failed on the server with the following exception: Unhandled Exception: System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException: Failed to decrypt using provider 'RsaProtectedConfigurationProvider'. Error message from the provider: The RSA key container could not be opened.
I decided to encrypt app.config on the server so I copied app.config and encrypted it. The app.exe.config looked encrypted and I ran the application. However, it failed: although it didn't raise an Rsa exception as before, it couldn't read a connection string. After I decrypted app.exe.config, I found that it contained only the below string
although the original app.config had contained an application-specific connection string. I think that in order to resolve my issue I should export the RSA keys from my desktop to the server. Can you advise how can I do it (it's not a Web application!).
"registration Of Ocx File Failed" When Install MSI Package

When i try to install this package it says "registration of ocx failed,contact administrator personnel" with some error code,this happens with all the ocx file in the package. i investigated the registration property of the ocx files and it is set to "vsdrfCOMSelfReg".

Jul 28, 2009I created a typed dataset a day or so ago, then I added a whole bunch of tableadapter/tables with some relationships etc... suddenly out of nowhere it decides my dataset "is not defined". everywhere in my code where i use this dataset now has an error. I tried not to pull out my hair and do a Clean then Rebuild solution... out of nowhere it just refuses to generate code. Object reference not set to an instance of an Object. It would be nice if it was my object so i could find it but it's not.
Curiously I also lost the little database icon on the dataset in the solution explorer.I can still open it in the designer and preview my queries etc... it just wont make the code. it's driving me insane. anyone got a solution?

May 8, 2012I'm using Visual Basic Express 2010 and SQL Express 2008 in Windows XP. At first I couldn't add a datasource (the .mdf file for the database) because of a "Operating system error 32" which I seemed to have resolved by giving myself full permissions for .mdf file (by right clicking on the file and going into properties and then Security) and restarting the SQL SERVER (SQLEXPRESS) service. The dataset for the database is in my solution explorer but when I right click on a table adapter to add a query and attempt to open up the query builder, I get the error in the title above.

Feb 24, 2010I have compiled my app to x86 so that it will run in a 64 bit processor, the issue I am facing right now is that when I install the app in under application folder I am not able to edit the config file which is in the same folder of the exe. how to give admin previlages to the application ?
PS: the app runs fine when installed in a different folder other than applicaitonfolder

Windows Service Failed To Start?
Apr 1, 2009I'm trying to create a windows service that read from a database and process some retrieved results then send a notification emails for users on my active directory.I need to install the service on a server which is running 24/7, so it can capture the changes that occurred on a database hosted on it ( SQL Server 2005 - Mixed security mode ), now after installing the service ( it's Ok, and the build is Ok ) I tried to start it - because i set it to run manually - a msg popped said that (The $$$ service on local computer started and then stopped, Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do ...) Now in OnStart I'm initializing the connections ( 2 connections on the same server ) I stored their connection strings into the application settings, and after preparing the connections I'm starting a timer with interval of 10000 millisecond to read from database to get some important values to start the service.

After that I will start another timer to run another script to check the main database to process and send emails, the service failed to start because on event viewer it shows this error :Service cannot be started. System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'ICTSIMIS-01-ZKA$' (domainComputer Name$) So if it's a login problem to the server, what should I do to grant the access to the server even without a user login, becasue I already tried all possible Accounts I think it need to be (LocalSystem or LocalService)

Dec 20, 2005The software I design is for Win XP and older versions such as Win 98, ME, 2000 etc. I currently use VB6 and Win XP for development and packaging, the problem I encounter is that if I use the deployment wizard in XP, the setup will only work on an XP machine and I need to copy all my source to an older machine and use the wizard again to create another setup file which will only work on the older operating systems. Is there a way to rectify this in VB6? If not, does the new VB account for this and be able to make a setup file for older operating systems as well as XP?

Mar 15, 2012I created a SQL DB named MainDB.mdf and a small VB 2010 application with some forms and datasets.Everything was working OK until i got a new computer and re-installed Visual Studio 2010 and SQL server 2010 on it. I copied my DB from the old to the new computer and also copied by VB 2010 project to it. I used Windows Authentication to connect to the DB in the old computer and also in the new one, i am using different Windows user account names though.
I was able to connect to the DB in the new computer in the Server Explorer section, i created a new connection string to the DB and i can seed there is data in the tables. When i run my VB 2010 application created in the old computer get error:
"Cannot open database "MainDB" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'D630Admin'."
I need to get rid of that error and be able to add/mod/del data from my DB using my VB application as i used to.

The project is created in Visual Studio 2008 with .Net framework 3.5; If this application runs in a machine which has atleast Dot Net 2.0 installs, it works fine. but the system without framework 2.0 throws an error "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135)"

Jun 1, 2009I have nerver used my application in windows vista or windows 7.It turns that WinXp SP 2 supports great but when i run it in windows 7 , it shows error like this but I can't install MDAC28 in windows 7 Because it is for windows 9x.Isn't vista/7 contain JetOledb components?.I have some other questions too in windows vista/7 there are some restriction on folder viewing .. In few of application , I used to save some info in system32 folder now those applications are also working.How we can save infos in windows 7 at system directory?

Apr 27, 2009I've been busy with work and other bits and bobs and not really had much time for programming... but anyway, I have just written a fairly simple windows service in VB.NET and although I can install it on my PCs/servers using the command line InstallUtil.exe component, this isnt ideal for other people that may need to install it without my assistance.
So basically I just need to know how to get a normal Setup and Deployment VS project to install this service itself... I thought it would be as simple as selecting the service assembly to include in the deployment project and building it, but unfortunately that seems to do naff all. Do I need to use a 'Custom Action' in the setup project (and if so, how/what do I do?)

I have published it and have been burning the result to a cd and installed it on various computers, however it is the click once app, which has been fine till now. What I need to do now is to have the program install the .exe file and associated files (non click once app) to a specific drive on a computer or network computer. I have searched the net for instructions on how to initiate the windows installer and have failed. is there a program that you can select the source files then point to the installation folder tell it to go and an installation package gets made that I can burn to disk.

Jun 15, 2011I am getting an error when trying to move my ASP.NET application from VS2010 to our IIS 6.0 webserver. The error happens on the first time the app tries to make a new SQLXMLCommand Object on the login page. When navigating to the login page and entering valid credentials I got an error saying a null reference exception was thrown. Investigating into the exception we were able to determine another exception was being thrown and caught, causing the null reference exception later in the code.
The Corresponding line of code throwing the exception:
New SqlXmlCommand(conn.ConnectionString & ";Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;")
The exception causing the problems below:
Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {83D0FC3E-8B31-4B35-A1B2-346BA3954514} failed due to the following error: 80040154 Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))."

Looking further into the problem, the exception is only thrown on the Web Server. No exception is thrown if I am using localhost. I though I may be missing a reference to Microsoft.Data.SqlXml.dll as it was working localhost and not on the webserver. I tried fixing this by included the dll reference in my deployment project and making sure it was added to the bin folder, but with no avail.
Edit:SQLXML 4.0 was not installed on our webserver, it was part of the baseline installation of my machine.

I make applications on Visual basic 2010 and of course use clickonce. when another computer wants to install an application (From the mediafire in a ZIP folder) the user extracts the folder, launches either the "Setup" or the ClickOnce application and then selects install and the following error message appears:
"Unable to install or run the application. The Application requires thaat assembly Microsoft.VisualBasic.Powerpacks.Vs Version 10.0.0.0 be installed in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) First. Please contact your system anministrator."

Feb 2, 2009So i've coded a simple vb project in MS VB 2008. I then copied the contents of the 'bin/release' folder, and tried running the program on another machine.
