I have a .net window application created and I wanted to see if it's at all possible to place various file dependencies off the web server. e.g. is it possible to have the connection to the database be off a web server?
I also would like to see if it's possible to place one of the .dlls off the web and have code that points to it to load.
Using VB.Net and SQL Server 2008 R2: I have recently had a database that using sp_who2 reflects a connection ".Net SqlClient Data Provider" is still active even though the .Net application has closed and disposed of all connections.
I have an application which connects to a database, retrieves a username from a user's table and matches it against the username retrieved with System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent.Name.On my localhost, everything works fine. The database exists on the development server but the application lies on my localhost. All of my authorization and authentication techniques are running smoothly. However, when I publish my application to the development server, I'm faced with the following error.Cannot open database requested in login 'databaseName'. Login fails.Login failed for user 'DevelopmentServerNameASPNET'.
I have a server which has around 300+ users on it. Though the problem is that its coded in VB6, and if somebody has a bad ping, everybody has a bad ping. I need a tunneling server which will tunnel the incoming and outgoing connections and make there ping appear to be 0 in the server. Client to Server, Server to Client.
i am doing project of Order Accepting system for five star hotels.Scenario is Waiter will accept order using Window Mobile which is Connected to WiFi present in hotel.I want to communicate to database(Sql Server) present on My Machine (Computer present in kitchen) through WiFi and Add order into table present inside database. I searched on google for these terms : "How to see all open connections in vb.net" and it should be for a server im running and it would be like to see witch users are connected (ip) and then if i type in the console -disconnect ip then the user will be disconnected from the server but is this technical posibble ?
I am currently working on an asp.net web page with a GridView displaying a table from a database. This GridView has 4 DropDownLists that will be used to filter the data shown on the GridView. When the page loads 4 Sub routines are run, each one connecting to the database with a select statement to fill the DropDownList with relevant filter headings.
Initially, I had one connection with a loop that populated all of the drop downs but these contained duplicates. I then split the filling of each DDL so that the select statements could contain DISTINCT. I would like (and am sure there is a way here) to be able to populate all of the DDLs with data from one connection.
Code for one connection:
Protected Sub FillDepDDL() Dim conn As New SqlConnection() conn.ConnectionString =
[code]....
The other 3 column names: FirstName > DDLFN, LastName > DDLLN, Wage > DDLWag.This is only a test DB and the princibles learned here will be applied to a larger live project.
I'm pretty new to VB.NET and connecting to SQL Server. What is considered best practice when building an app that needs to connect frequently to a SQL Server DB to fetch, write, delete and update records?Should a connection be opened at app startup (a connection at start is opened to validate the user) and left open for subsequent transactions or should a connection be opened, closed and disposed of each time a read/write to the DB is required?
I have a java class that is used to for ssl connections to a web server. I have got some of it converted however there are serveral java libraries that i have been unable to figure out how to call or reference in vb.net. First off i'm not even sure if it's possible to reference them
I want to make run an application i developed in vb.net (developed with Visual studio 2008) to run on a windows server maybe (Win server 2003,2005,2008), my framework is .NET Framework 3.5.
i want my application to be accessed by different host computers but would be submitting into a single database that would have been installed on the server.
In our VB 2008 we are making a lot of connections to sql server 2005 databases. Is there a possibillity to check with a program or a tool of 2005, all connections are closed?
Every time I execute my application and the app try to access the database I received an error message telling me that the user cannot login into the database. This is because the VS Server Explorer have the connection opened. What I need is that every time I debug (F5) my app the Server Explorer close the connection with the database so I do not have to stop the execution and manually close the connection. Is this is possible? Is there any way I can setup the debug or the Server Explorer to do this?
I need help getting a connection to a database from within the windows 7 environment. The code currently works for windows XP flawlessly. However in Windows 7 i get an error about a resource not being registered on the local computer.
I have developed 2-3 standalone windows application using VS2008(vb.net) + Sql server (2008,2005) and quite comfortable with stand alone windows application. Now i am trying to make a windows app which will share a server database on LAN. I googled alot about this but still no success. So i decided to make that as stand alone app and i just changes the connection string to use remote server database. Everything is working fine still. All the insert, update and delete query are same as stand alone n me not getting any problem while testing through one more remote client system. But while googling i heard abt "CONCURRENCY" control. So please guide me is anything wll b wrong in future wid my this application when i will deploy this to my users? What about locks and how can i implement this to my Insert, update and delete queries to control concurrency and maintain integrity ?Please guide me step by step becoz i m new be to client/server application.
I am developing project on cyber cafe using vb .net 2005 and winsock i don't know how to accept connections from multiple clients to a server having winsock control
I have been developing an async socket connection server and client program. I have been testing it, and noticed that if I connect to the server from my client and then disconnect. Upon reconnecting I am on a different port(local IP still). This is fine, however when I go to send a message, and the server trys to update all the clients, it eventually hits clients that do not exist anymore. I get the SocketException 10054, and upon connecting/disconnecting enough, it no longer works at all. My question is how do I clear out these no longer useful sockets from the server? I am doing currentsocket.Shutdown(SocketShutDown.Both); and then a currentsocket.Close(); after that. When a user disconnects.
I packaged a VB 6.0 application using the Package and Deployment Wizard. After that I executed setup.exe in the package to setup the application. On Windows Server 2008 (32 bits), however, I received the following error when processing the setup:
I've developed a VB.NET application with Visual Studio 2008. The application communicates with SQL Server and processes a text file.
My question is about performance. While I run it from Visual Studio 2008, it takes 3 sec to complete. The same is when I run the executable created by the Setup Wizard on my desktop (Windows XP sp 3). But if I run the executable installed on a Windows 2003 Server, it takes 15 sec to complete! What could be the reason of degrading performance on the server vs. the desktop? The .Net framework 3.5 SP1 is installed both on the desktop and the server.

I have a program that reads data from a scanner via the serial port. This program works fine on Windows XP.We have a terminal server set up running Windows Server 2008.I run HyperTerminal on our test terminal, it connects and reads the scanner data fine through COM1.I run my app on that same test terminal and get nothing when I scan.My app connects to COM1 without errors and disconnects without errors.BUT, the DataRecieved event is NEVER getting fired.Neither is the ErrorReceived event.I have played with the Handshaking, with the RecievedBytesThreshhold and pretty much every setup setting I found.Set it up exactly like the settings on Hyperterminal.I have even tried starting a timer on a different thread to call ReadByte every second to try to KICK this thing into doing SOMETHING.Nothing has worked.
I have been trying to fix this for an entire day now.Added events to my class trying to see EVERYTHING that is going on. All I know is, it connects to the port and it disconnects from the port correctly but nothing happens in between. No data when I scan.No event fired at all between connecting to and disconnecting from the port.I have also downloaded other's simple serial communications applications.Nothing in .NET works.[code]
I am having trouble in creating a login form in my windows application. If i create a login form with its database local to the system ,it works fine .But my requirement is that the database is placed on a remote server so that the login is secured. When the user tries to use the application he first needs to login. When he puts the username and password in the login form it should send the data to a remote server for authentication.

This may have been answered but my search hasn't found what I was looking for. Basically, I am developing an application which allows the user to build a query at design time, i.e. for users with no prerequisite knowledge of SQL The application thus far allows the user to select which table(s) from the database they wish to start querying (I won't go into the details of the rest for now)
My confusion is this; I already have the connection to the database in a subroutine which obtains the schema information and filters it to display only the available tables within the database, which then compiles the data into a listbox, here is that sub:
MVC3 vb.net Application using built in session management. I have an mvc3 application that I would like to add being able to see the current number of users online to whether they are logged in or not. I have tried using: Membership.GetNumberOfUsersOnline.ToString But that only keeps track of current users logged in which is not acceptable in what I am trying to do. Is there any other method that keeps track of connections?
