I have a server which has around 300+ users on it. Though the problem is that its coded in VB6, and if somebody has a bad ping, everybody has a bad ping. I need a tunneling server which will tunnel the incoming and outgoing connections and make there ping appear to be 0 in the server. Client to Server, Server to Client.

View 4 RepliesI am currently working on an asp.net web page with a GridView displaying a table from a database.This GridView has 4 DropDownLists that will be used to filter the data shown on the GridView. When the page loads 4 Sub routines are run, each one connecting to the database with a select statement to fill the DropDownList with relevant filter headings.
Initially, I had one connection with a loop that populated all of the drop downs but these contained duplicates. I then split the filling of each DDL so that the select statements could contain DISTINCT. I would like (and am sure there is a way here) to be able to populate all of the DDLs with data from one connection.

I also would like to see if it's possible to place one of the .dlls off the web and have code that points to it to load.
In our VB 2008 we are making a lot of connections to sql server 2005 databases. Is there a possibillity to check with a program or a tool of 2005, all connections are closed?
View 3 RepliesEvery time I execute my application and the app try to access the database I received an error message telling me that the user cannot login into the database. This is because the VS Server Explorer have the connection opened. What I need is that every time I debug (F5) my app the Server Explorer close the connection with the database so I do not have to stop the execution and manually close the connection. Is this is possible? Is there any way I can setup the debug or the Server Explorer to do this?

View 1 RepliesI have been developing an async socket connection server and client program. I have been testing it, and noticed that if I connect to the server from my client and then disconnect. Upon reconnecting I am on a different port(local IP still). This is fine, however when I go to send a message, and the server trys to update all the clients, it eventually hits clients that do not exist anymore. I get the SocketException 10054, and upon connecting/disconnecting enough, it no longer works at all. My question is how do I clear out these no longer useful sockets from the server? I am doing currentsocket.Shutdown(SocketShutDown.Both); and then a currentsocket.Close(); after that. When a user disconnects.

The database exists on the development server but the application lies on my localhost. i have a problem where i've hard coded the file path of an access database i'm using with a VB.net program. this means that if i publish the program the database doesn't publish with it and i have to "ship" the program with the the database file separately and create another form so the user can say where the file is held. i don't want to do this.is there any way to get the access database file to publish with the program and then access that file path by code? for example the database file is held in the same folder as the installed program and then is accessed by code so there is no need to use a specific file path.

I am on a general scenario of deploying my vb.net database application on my client's computer.
Thinking of future problem of changing the database connection setting, i am planning to store it in a normal xml file in the app directory so that where ever it is installed, in order to make database configuration i only need to make change to that file and my program runs smoothly.
So is this idea of storing database connection setting to xml config file in app directory or is there any other better idea?

I'll use the last one for example: I get a "Namespace or type specified in the Imports 'org.xml.sax.SAXExeption' doesn't contain any public member or cannot be found. make sure the namespace or the type is defined and contains at least one public member. I have a client/server application set up that the client sends a word file to the server and then the server converts that word file to a .TIF and sends the image back.The stuff I have now works.Say if I sent the size of the file and the actual file byte() to the server back to back, would the NetworkStream contain both back to back? This what I though would happen. So I implemented a kind of 'turn' based interaction during the duration of the conversion process.

I have developed a VB.NET program using a strongly typed dataset. This dataset has its connection to a SQL Server 2008 R2. The software should now be additionally used offline. The database should be exported to a *.sdf database. If no connection to the SQL server is produced, the software have to try to connect to the *.sdf database.I would like to achieve:
1. Export the data in the SQL Server 2008 R2 database to a local *.sdf file.
2. This *.sdf file has to work as an alternate connection string in the strongly typed dataset.

I rebuilt the .exes and tried to run it from the server. It said I needed to upgrade the framework on the server, which I did. Now when I run the .exe file from the server I get a runtime error:

These programs are very important to the day-to-day operations of the company I work for. I did backup the software before converting it, so we're running normally right now, but there are modifications and upgrades I need to make as soon as possible, but cannot due to the programs crashing when I run the on the server.
In my scenario, users are able to upload zip files to a.[url]....I would love to create a "daemon" which in specified time intervals will move-transfer any zip files uploaded by the users from a[url].....From the info i gathered so far,
The daemon will be an .ashx generic handler.
The daemon will be triggered at the specified time intervals via a plesk cron job
The daemon (thanks to SLaks) will consist of two FtpWebRequest's (One for reading and one for writing).

Could i perform reading and writing of the file at the same time? No i am not asking for the full code, i just can figure out, how could i perform reading and writing on the fly, without user interaction.I mean i could download the file locally from a.example.com and upload it at b.example.com but that is not the point.

I'm running an FTP Server using Golder FTP Server, which is freeware. I think it's setup correctly because connecting to the FTP Server using the exact same string as above using Windows Explorer works great.
