Word 10 Interface Error 'that Method Is Not Available On That Object'
Jun 28, 2011
Does anybody know why I get the error 'that method is not available on that object' when I try to interface with Word 10? Our software works fine with Word 7 and previous
I have been trying to use vb2008 to automatically update CustomDocumentProperties fields that I have set up within a pro-forma document. I can load the Word application and word document without problems.I want to update the CustomDocumentProperties fields with data read from a dB. To do this I am assuming that I need to iterate through the CustomDocumentProperties fields within the word document and when one is "found" that matches the data I wish to merge then assign the dB value to the field.The problem is that I am getting an exception error when I try to reference the document customdocumentproperties
"Error : Unable to cast the COM object of type 'System._ComObject' to interface type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.CustomProperties'. ...... "
my code looks like;
Dim WordApp As Word._Application Dim odoc As Word._Document Dim BContinue As Boolean = True
I have an interface ITest with a method GetResult(). I have a class Test which implements ITest and thereby defines private method GetResult().
Next I create an instance of Test in a different class. The code is as below:
Module NewClass Public Sub New() Dim i As ITest = New Test()
[Code]....
I am migrating existing code from VB 6 to VB.NET and hence I'm not supposed to change the access modifier of GetResult. Leaving it Private will throw InvalidCastException Unable to cast object of type 'System.Object' to type 'ITest'
Object type variable o is used in many places and hence I don't want to change that. And yes, Test implements ITest.GetMember with a different name.
I am getting following error whenever I want to use IIf function inside entity framework query.
LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'System.Object IIf(Boolean, System.Object, System.Object)' method, and this method cannot be translated into a store expression.
Whenever I open any VBP file in Visual Basic 6.0, I get Method '~' of object '~' failed error. After that project compiles without any error i.e I can create either EXE or DLL without any error. Originally, all files are Visual Basic 5.0 vbp files and we are converting Visual Basic 5.0 to Visual Basic 6.0. We will be converting to .Net after converting to VB6. Application uses microsoft access as data storage.I am running Windows XP on my machine. I have got .Net 3.5, Jet 3.5 Sp3, Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my machine.
I'm trying to make a .dll that contains a lot of basic functionality that a program can use. Currently i am trying to use interfaces to make a lot of this functionallity independend of the program using it but i hit a snag. The Basic idea is that a programmer will create his own object using the interface discribed in my .DLL file. Then implements those functions as he likes. He can then instanciate a controller (found in the same DLL) and sends his custom object implementing the interface to that Controller. The controller can then be started and will take over all the work. I do not know what type of object is send to the controller and idealy i want to program it in such a fashion that i shouldn't care as long as the object send implements that interface.In code I am trying to achieve the following: (quite simplyfied)
.Dll: Code: Public Interface MyInterface '<----Decleration of the interfaceFunction GetData() As Integer Function SetData(Data As Integer) end interface
[code]....
this propperly. I know that the second i set the interface adaptor in the Controller VS comes nagging that it can not be converted to a "MyInterface" Class. Obviously i am doing something wrong. I can change the datatype that the controller expects to the "MyController" type but that would completely ruin the whole idea of flexibillity. I am hoping someone sees what i am trying to do and can point out where i made the thinking error.
We have an interactive windows based application written in VB .Net 2010. It uses Word Object to display documents in MS Word. We have a form with a button. When the button is clicked we open the Word document and maximize the Word Windowstate. When we have the Visual Studio Tool running, the Word Document is maximized and has focus, even if we are running the exe from the bin folder outside of the tool. However, if Visual Studio is not running and we run the exe, focus remains on the original form window and the document stays in the task bar.
is there a way to get the raw data of a word file document object?
word = new Word.Application();doc = new Word.Document();
now, I open the word file, do some replace. save the file. I could open the file as raw binary file. but I'm thinking maybe there is a property that can get the raw the data? which property?
I am getting some wierd errors when using the ReportViewer control in Visual Studio 2008. When I try to access the LocalReport property, it displays with this error: "Cannot find the method on the object instance.". Also, I am getting invalid cast errors saying I cannot cast from Microsoft.Reporting.Winforms.ReportViewer to Microsoft.Reporting.Winforms.ReportViewer. I am getting this using either CType or DirectCast. This is really frustrating as I can find almost no documentation on this error.
I have developed a website that allows users to upload office documents then uses the office object model to convert the document to an HTML file that it then displays in an iFrame. I have, of course, included references to Office.interop.word, and the site works fine on my development machine. When I uploaded it to my production server the site functions fine until I try to upload a document. I initially got a similar error that said "COM object not registered". I realized that Word wasn't installed on my production server. So I installed word and now when the server tries to access the word object model I receive the following error:
Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {000209FF-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} failed due to the following error: 80070005 Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))
I searched the registry for the corresponding CLSID and found a corresponding folder. I added full control to the IUSR_ account and due to the persistence of the error I eventually added full control to "everyone" and ensured these permissions inherited down to the rest of the folder. I then added full control to IUSR_ and again eventually added full control to "everyone" to my microsoft office folder.
I don't know what other permissions to grant and where in order to make this "Access is denied" error go away. I must be granting them in the wrong place, because as far as I know I can't be any more permissive than "Everyone" "Full Control".
I've got 3 forms that have exactly the same functions, so I decided to create an interface.
public Interface IExample public sub Add() Public sub Edit()
[code]....
At this point, objfrmExample is now instantiated, even though I've not done a "objfrmExpample = new [what-goes-here?] " and I'm curious as to why.I could possibly guess that because you cannot instantiate an interface variable, then vb.net automatically creates an instance. But thats just a guess. The question is , what is meant by declaring a variable of type Interface, and how does it work?
I have an interface that describes an specialized list in my application...
[Code]....
Is there a way to make an interface serializable, or am I going to have to convert each of my objects into a concrete class implementing the interface, and then return that class?
This error is ridiculously common, and I'm not too sure why it would be caused this time. What I'm trying to do is export two datagridviews to word, using code from the following website: [URl].. perfectly, and does for the other grids, but at the moment I have the object reference error for the MonthlyCashflow and LoanAnalysis grids. The rows and columns in the grids come from calculations and not my database.
I've got an interface inheritance issue that has been vexing me for some time. It doesn't seem to make any sense, and I can only conclude that I'm missing something fundamental.
Overview The code below is from part of a fluent interface for our ORM tool. It provides a SQL-like syntax for pulling data from the database. You don't have to completely grok all the interrelations to understand the problem -- the real issue is the EndClause method.
The EndClause Issue There's a method called EndClause that doesn't show up in one expected spot -- IOrderQueryRoot. As far as I know, it should show up because it inherits from two different interfaces that both have a method called EndClause, but when I consume an object that implements IOrderQueryRoot, EndClause does not pop up in intellisense.
There are some more implementation details below.First though, if you look at IOrderQueryRoot (which contains EndClause), you can see that it inherits IHasOrderLogicalOperators, and also IHasOrderFields (which also contains EndClause).
Public Interface IHasOrderLogicalOperators Function [And]() As IHasOrderFields Function [AndNot]() As IHasOrderFields
[code]....
At this point, the interface is working fine -- if I were to remove this method, VS would scream that I have to implement both EndClause methods. The problem is one level down, when the "end developer" is trying to actually write code against the interface.
Why does my the declaration of my string in the code result in the following error? Is there a workaround?
Code:
<script runat="server"> Protected Sub form1_Load(sender As Object, e As System.EventArgs) Dim x As String = "</script>"
[code]....
Error: Statement cannot appear within a method body. End of method assumed.
Note: The following page did not fix my issue and instead resulted in the string </script> being output in my page. ( VB.NET hates </script> tag in string literal )
public interface IMenuSecurityService { void SetSecurityFlags(List<MenuItem> items); }
I need to implement this interface in a VB.Net class. When I implement the SetSecurityFlags method with the items parameter passed ByVal, it compiles.
Public Sub SetSecurityFlags(ByVal items As List(Of L1.Common.Model.MenuItem)) Implements IMenuSecurityService.SetSecurityFlags ' do some work End Sub
When I try to implement it with the items parameter passed ByRef, I get the following compiler error: Class 'UserRights' must implement 'Sub SetSecurityFlags(items As System.Collections.Generic.List(Of Model.MenuItem))' for interface
Public Sub SetSecurityFlags(ByRef items As List(Of L1.Common.Model.MenuItem)) Implements IMenuSecurityService.SetSecurityFlags ' do some work End Sub
I can't seem to figure this one out. Does VB.Net not support this or am I doing something wrong?
In Visual Studio, when you right-click a method call, you go to the implementation of that method inside a class except if you access this method through an interface: in that case you go to the interface method not to the actual implementation.Is there a way / tips (key shortcut or anything) to access this actual implementation ? Otherwise you are stuck to add some comment just to remember where you did implement it that's really not productive and error prone !
Update: interesting answers but I'm not really satisfied because all are cumbersome. I will give a precise example:
I'm trying to code a class of RandomNumber. One of the class methods needs to populate a "List (Of RandomNumber)" ... which was passed as a parameter to the method ... with 10 random numbers between 1 and 50. DEAD SIMPLE :)
I am working on process for validating documents to make sure that they meet corporate standards. One of the steps is to make sure that the Word document does not use non-approved fonts.I have the following stub of code, which works:
Dim wordApplication As Word.ApplicationClass = New Word.ApplicationClass() Dim wordDocument As Word.Document = Nothing Dim fontList As New List(Of String)()
I want method which can check if microsoft office word spell checker is present. If version less than 2007 are there I check if ""C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoftSharedProofMSSPELL3.DLL" this dll is present, but for officewe don't find this dllat this location. I'm looking for a method which will check for spell checker of the various version of Offices.
Iam using this method to seach in xml file but it returns search by first word for example i have a name [url] and i write in seach box word "forum" then it will not return any result but if i write "vb" then it will return the result how to solve this problem code is here
Private Sub Button5_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button5.Click Dim b As Integer If TextBox10.Text <> "" And ComboBox1.Text <> "SELECT" Then Call sorting()
I have an object that inherits from an interface. I can create and return the following:
Dim o As IRequest o = New Request Return o
This works fine. Now I want to return a List(Of Requests), so I try the following:
Dim o As List(Of IRequest) o = New List(Of Request) Return o
The error below is being given on o = New List(Of Request)
System.Collections.Generic.List(Of MyObjects.Request)' cannot be converted to System.Collections.Generic.List(Of MyInterfaces.IRequest)'.Consider using 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable(Of MyInterfaces.IRequest)'
I am working in VB.net and have a Class, Foo, that implements an interface, IBar.I have a List of Foo's, but I need to pass a list of IBar's into a function, but I keep getting casting errors, even when I use DirectCast.My code is [code]MainWorks works, but it would be really annoying and inefficient to have to do that everywhere I want to call this function.
