May 31, 2012
I need to add quotes to a line that is being written to a vbs file WriteVBS("filesys.CopyFile " & OldNFile & "" & My.Computer.FileSystem.GetName(nfile) & "," & NotesFile & "," & "True")Old Nfile is a variable defined: Dim OldNFile As String = ("\" & OldPCTxtBx.Text & "" & NotesSource.Replace(":", "$"))NotesFiles is defined as
Dim NotesFile As String = (NotesTgt) & "" & My.Computer.FileSystem.GetName(nfile) I need to add quotes before and after the OldNfile Variable and the NotesFile variable I dont want to change the variable just the WriteVBS line not sure how to do it since intellisense does not suggest a better way

If I try to display a command line argument that has double quotes around, the double quotes are always stripped off. How can I avoid this?
for example, the argument is "c:xx.txt" and this displays c:xx.txt instead Console.WriteLine((My.Application.CommandLineArgs(4)))

I have a comma separated file that has commas in the data, so using Split() doesn't work. I tried to use Jet 4.0, but a column has text and numeric data in it, so half of the values return null. After researching for hours and getting nowhere I attempted to write my own split function that checks for quotes so it can skip past the extra commas in the line. I fiddled with it for a few hours and got it almost running. [Code]

This should create a desktop shortcut but instead it spits out an error that is because of the quotes inside quotes. They need to be there, I know this is the problem as I have tried without them and it has worked. Another problem though is that it creates the shortcut (when Idon'thave quotes in quotes) but wraps the whole TargetPath in quotes making the shortcut unusable. Here is my code:
Dim input As String
Dim s As String = Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("UserProfile")
input = TextBox1.Text
[code].....

Is there any way to use selectnode with the attribute having both single and double quotes? If we are having single quote in the attribute we can use like below,
nodeList = root.SelectNodes("//book[contains(title,""'attribute'"")]")
If we are having double quotes we can use,
nodeList = root.SelectNodes("//book[contains(title,'"""attribute"""')]")
how can I use an attribute ['attribute"] having both single and quotes in SelectNodes.

I have a program that can save to a .txt file.The issue is I need it to be done in a tab delimited way.Basically:
TextHere<Tab>TextHere<Tab>TextHere<NextLine>
TextHere<Tab>TextHere<Tab>TextHere<NextLine>
I have this so far, but all it does is put the TextBox1.Text next to TextBox2.Text
Code:
SaveFileDialog1.Filter = "Text files (*.txt)|*.txt|All files (*.*)|*.*"
Dim FileWriter As StreamWriter
Dim results As DialogResult
[code]....

My program creates a CSV file, this works fine and each line created is correct except it does not have a double quote at each end. How does one add a double quote to the beginning and end of each record without the program thinking it is a formatting function.[code] Although neither method caused an error, neither did they achieve the desired result. Is there an easy way to do this that works?

I need this, because I have a function that returns a string, also I need my exception handling quotes saved.is there any way to do this??

Here is my situation.
data = "" & data & ""
xlsheet.Range(crange).Value = data
xlfile.SaveAs(FileName:=finalfilename, FileFormat:=6)
This code puts " around the data, puts the data in the range and saves the workbook(xlfile) with one worksheet(xlsheet) as a csv file.
If I open the csv file in notepad I find these following
1.quotes are removed
2.leading 0 from numbers are removed
How to ensure that quotes are present while saving the file programatically?

Is there a way to handle quotes with a field in text tab delimited file example:"This program works "really" nicely and is helpful" my reading and understand thus far is that while the file is tab delimited fields can also begin and end with quotes. Therefore is a field contains a quote it gets interpreted as end of field.[code]

I'm reading a text file with StreamReader, line by line. If a condition is met, then I do an operation and then start reading the file again from the first line. I realize I could close and then re-open the file, but surely this would be very slow.
I could do this easily in VB6, but pulling my hair out trying to do this in vB.net. It seems that 'Seek' is the function to use, but it doesn't work.
I've seen other examples, where it works, but you must open it a different way -- with a file number.
Imports System.IO
Dim I as Integer
Dim LineText as String
[Code].....

I'm currently using this method in calling batch files in vb.net:
Private Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click
System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("F:ipconfigflushdns.bat")
End Sub
Is it possible to incorporate the code written in the batch file so that I won't have to call it like the one above?

how I can lock a file so it will be completely written to by the first application, then unlocked for reading by my second web ticker app? My IDE is VB 2008. The second app has a ticker timer which I can modify accordingly. However, I'm still concerned whether the web app will encounter a situation where it competes for file access.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm very much a novice coder. I'm currently working on a small project to practice with Visual Basic and have experienced some issues during my save and load process using text files. I think I can solve the issue by changing the way my text file is initially saved. I want to see if I can sort the items and change the order in which they are written to the text file based of the value in one of the lines.[code]....

I tried to write a text written in my textbox to file.(a .txt). I scanned it to see if it contained any illegal characters, the program said that it did not. However, when I went to save it it said that the program performed an illegal operation.
System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException was unhandled Message: Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A0005 (CTL_E_ILLEGALFUNCTIONCALL).
It created the text file but did not write the content of the textbox to the file.I can save the text in Microsoft word without a problem. Is there something wrong with the encoding for the textbox and how do I set the encoding for the characters so I can write it to a text file.
