Adding .net User Controls To The Toolbox For A C# Windows Form?
Sep 23, 2010
This illustration shows how I'm trying to get 2 vb.net user controls into the toolbox to use on a c# form. In toolbox Select Items I see the items checked but clicking OK or Reset doesn't make them appear in the toolbox. How do I do that? somehow the controls appeared in the Toolbox, but they're greyed out and unavailable.

I created some custom controls which I use quite often and I thought if I add them once to my ToolBox they just will be there next time I start up VS2008; however, that does not seem to be the case! Each time I start VS2008 I have to re-add that controls (which is quite annoying!). Is there a trick / way of having them there permanently?

I have a form that I will be using to keep track of data for computers I build and will eventually link into a database for configuration management, but for right now I'm just trying to get the basic form layout done and functional. I need this for to be customized for each job I do, that means I can have multiple computers, PC card, peripheral equipment, etc. So with that said basically what I have done is created a user control for each separate item that I want to add (i.e. computer, PC card, etc) that has all the fields and functions I require. When I want to add another computer I just add a tab and place my "computer" user control on it, no big deal...
My issue is when I want to add my "PC card" user control to that "computer" user control. What I am trying to do is to add the first user control(PC Card Info) I created under a button called "Add New PC Card" (which is part of the "computer" user control.)and that part works! What I want to do is keep added as many "pc card"user controls as I need and basically keep appending them under the last control on the bottom of the page (which is the "pc card" user control, that is a groupbox with a few drop down boxes and text boxes in it.)with a little spacing between them. The biggest problem I am having is when I add the first "PC Card" user control, it works.. but when I try to add another one and search the current page for all user controls under a certain point or with a specific name, I don't get any results.
I think I'm on the right track with the following code but I am running into 2 things I can't do that are critical to my needs. 1: I need to define the text of the user control I just added so I can uniquely identify it, so If I need to remove it I can and will also play a role later( I thought if there was some way in code to make my control # a variable that may work) 2: I need to know what to look for since I have a count that represents how many of that particular control exist on my form, that way I can name them properly, this will also allow me a method to delete the user control if desired.
Dim pccard As New PC_Card
Dim x As Integer
Dim name As String
[Code].....

I could review that could help me create a designer view (actually similar to how Visual Studio works but more basic), I would like to be able to add controls dynamically (just panels or images), then move those around individually(drag and drop), then count them all and get an array of what I have added..[code]But I would like to get an idea how it looks if things get more complicated..I wonder, are we able to use the classes of Visual Studio's editor in some way? Or are there .NEt classses that can do this?

My project, which has 2 user controls in it- does not display the user controls in the toolbox. Has anyone else had this problem, and/or know of a solution?I have tried adding other user controls to the project, they do not appear in the toolbox.I have tried creating a new project, and it's user controls DO show up in the toolbox. If I add the user controls from the first project to the new project -THEY show up in the toolbox for that project.So it must be something tweaked out with the project right?

I have created a series of custom user controls for a wizard interface that I am making. Each user control represents one step in the wizard and really shouldn't be used outside of the wizard. The thing that is bugging me is that each wizard step user control shows up in the toolbox of components to insert into a form.
Is it possible to hide a user control from the toolbox? Better yet is it possible to hide a user control from other classes not in the same namespace of an assembly? Is this a good approach or should I think of a different approach?

I am running Visual Basic 2008 express edition. My controls toolbox is empty. There are also no properties for the form controls on my project. Just blank. I have removed the .net framework v2.0. I had the .net framework v3.5 installed at the time, and thought I didn't need the older version (v2.0). Do I need v.2.0 for the tools? If so, where can I get a copy? What's the filename called?

I have been set a project from school to design snake in VB.Net but i am struggling to dynamically add the user control which acts as one of the dots in the body of the snake. Every time i add a dot on to the snake the previous vanishes. I assume this is due to me overwriting the previous one by creating a new instance of the object but i cannot find a way of adding a new one in.[code]I have tried using body(i) and other ways of adding a new instance of the object but am stuck.The subroutine will be called up when a new control is needed.

I want to insert a Windows Media Player object in my Form, but I have not the control on my Toolbox.
I have done the steps:
Right-click
the Toolbox -> Choose item -> COM Components -> add Windows Media Player component
(which references to C:WindowsSystem32wmp.dll)
But there is not the control on my Toolbox.
In my project references I see "MediaPlayer" into "Imported namespaces" and it is checked. In the references window it is also present "Windows Media Player". Where is the error?

I have a User Control which returns a table of data, which in some cases needs to be looped, displaying one on top of another. I am able to dynamically add a single instance of this by placing a fixed placeholder in the page. I am now trying to work out how to add more than one, given that I don't know how many might be needed I don't want to hard code the Placeholders. I've tried the following, but I am just getting one instance, presumably the first is being overwritten by the second
My HTML
<div id="showHere" runt="server"/>
VB
Dim thisPh As New PlaceHolder
thisPh.Controls.Add(showTable)
showHere.Controls.Add(thisPh)
Dim anotherPh As New PlaceHolder
anotherPh .Controls.Add(showTable)
showHere.Controls.Add(anotherPh)
How do I make it add repeated tables within the showHere div?

I have been working on a VB 2005 applications for the past week and now I'm not able to add a control to the form. It's a very basic app with only one form and I can add the control in design mode but it does not appear on the form in run mode and is on the verge of driving me nuts. Pretty new to programming by the way.

Updating a VB6 prog in VS2005 on Windows 7. The prog has an MDI + child forms and there are a number of content types, with varying numbers of controls being set up and positioned from setup files.On forms which are not child forms I can easily add controls at run time like this:
Dim lab As New Label
With lab
.Left = 0 : .Top = 0
.Width = 800 : .Height = 800
[code]....
This doesn't work on a child form, no label is visible. Can't see any obvious problem in quickwatch.

What I am trying to do is create a form in code that runs while the BackGround worker is running.I created a form the normal way with a label and progress bar but I want to update the label with what is going on in the BackGround Worker.Doing it the standard way isn't updating the label on the form.So my next idea is to create a form in code which I have done, but now I can't remember how to add controls to that form at runtime.Here is the code I have so far.[code]So from here I have tried the CreateControl() and the Controls.Add() and neither one is working for me.

I have been trying to add an SQLDataAdapter control onto a webform in Visual Basic 2008 professional and Express editions. This control and others remain greyed out even when selected; they can only be seen when 'Show All' is selected in the toolbox. Is it that these controls are not available in the type of form?
I've checked various forums but have not seen a clear answer. I've tried some of the solutions proposed but none has worked. I've also reinstalled the application; then uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, but to no avail.
