Adding And Removing Items From The List And Tree Views
Mar 10, 2009I am trying to learn how to work with the different controls in Visual Studio for VB.Net in particular the List View and Tree Views. I don't have any code to show as I am not working on anything in particular just messing around with it to learn what the different controls do that weren't covered in my Intro to VB.Net class last semester.I would like a clearer explanation on how to actually use code for these controls. In particular adding and removing items from the List and Tree Views using code.

Jan 11, 2011I'm having trouble adding a new control to my toolbox.I downloaded the projected and extracted.I the went to the VB toolbox, rightclicked the mouse button and selected choose items. I then clicked the browse button. I selected the folder I had extracted to and then went to bin/debug/menucontroltest.exe.

May 29, 2009I can't seem to figure this out. I basically am trying to write a class, not a usercontrol, that can show up in the ToolBox. I want it to act similar to how a ContextMenuStrip or BindingSource does, in that there is no UI when you throw in on the Form, it goes down to that bottom part (name?).
1) What do you call those types of components?
2) Why won't this test class that I wrote do the same thing?

Adding Visio Viewer 2010 To Toolbox?

Jun 18, 2009I created some custom controls which I use quite often and I thought if I add them once to my ToolBox they just will be there next time I start up VS2008; however, that does not seem to be the case! Each time I start VS2008 I have to re-add that controls (which is quite annoying!). Is there a trick / way of having them there permanently?

In toolbox Select Items I see the items checked but clicking OK or Reset doesn't make them appear in the toolbox. How do I do that? somehow the controls appeared in the Toolbox, but they're greyed out and unavailable.

Oct 21, 2009The particular control I'm trying to figure out is a UserControl. When I design it as a separate DLL, add it to the Toolbox, then drag it onto the form, it shows up. But when I declare the instance in Form_Load & add it to the Forms Controls, it doesn't show up. (Note that I'm dealing with two different UserControls here as what I don't really want to do is create it as a DLL. It's specific to this project & that's where I want it-in this project. I suppose I could create it as a separate project in this solution, but again-that's not what I want to do. I can add a UserControl to this project, but I can't seem to *use* it. Frustrating.)

Class3 inherits System.Windows.forms.UserControl, and contains a label.OK, found that I can make the UserControl appear by setting the BackColor (X.BackColor=). Doesn't seem like I should need to do that as it's set in Class3, but apparently when I add it to the form it picks up the form's backcolor-which might be the way UserControls work.
But, it still doesn't show the label that's on the UserControl-just a block of color where I placed the UserControl.And now, I might have solved this problem only to raise another. I finally noticed that although Class3 had an InitializeComponent sub it lacked a Sub New-so it never called the InitializeComponent sub.
I added a Sub New that does nothing except call InitializeComponent & now I'm getting the whole thing. I guess now the question is why the Sub New is required for Class3 but not for the DLL? (Or maybe it was created automatically for the DLL but not for Class3? I'll check the hidden code in the DLL project to see if it was created or not.)

Dec 10, 2009I'm trying to use a split button from a tool strip to add and remove selected items in a listview.Users click the button to add the selected item which appears in the split button drop down menu as checked.The drop down menu has three items at any one time, each with a default value of <none> - this is replaced with the text from the listview when an item is added.When users click the item from the drop down, the item is unchecked and the text returns to <none>.
The drop down should populate from the top down so if a user removes item 1 or 2, the items below would appear to be moved up with the 3rd item now showing <none>.

Script Store Not Removing All Elements Before Re-adding
Oct 7, 2010So I have a dropdown setup on the page called ddlVehicleType that is populated from a store. This method gets called when another dropdown is changed, and it's supposed to remove all items from the aforementioned store, re-add them as needed, and then populate the dropdown with the new values.
It's doing everything it's supposed to EXCEPT clearing the store before it re-adds the values, so the result is, when I switch, I'm getting what it used to be PLUS the new values that should be in there by themselves.[code]...

Oct 26, 2011The user picks x amount of scenarios from the combobox, and x amount of columns appear in the datagridview. If the user changes the number of columns from x amount to y amount, the columns should be added/removed respectively but currently when y amount is chosen x amount of columns are in the datagridview.
I'm not sure how to do this, I've tried using an IF statement under the .SelectedIndexChanged event but the code adds columns until it reaches as high as it can go, then pulls an error saying too many columns.
Removing A Delimiter From The End Of A List?
Jun 28, 2009I've been working on this program all week and I've been able to finally get it to work except for one problem. The program is suppose to parse strings from a text box to a list box and then from a list box to a text box using the users choice of delimiters. I can't seem to figure out how to get the last comma off the end of the list. ie cat,dog,elf,It seems it should be easy, but since I've worked on this program so long I believe I can't see the forest for the trees. I don't want for you to do my work for me.

Word 2007 Adding Adding Values To Combo List Box
Jun 7, 2011I am trying to create a simple Word doc that when the user presses the button it takes the information in the boxes and tosses it into a template style paragraph. But my issue is that I have two combo list boxes as seen in the picture. I want to have two values in the drop down list as seen in the labels next to them but for the life of me I can't figure out how to do this in Word 2007. In Visual Studio this is much easier but I am work and need to snap this out for the folks at work. Is there an option that I can choose in the properties where I type in the values for each drop down or do I have to add them in at run time?

Sep 26, 2010I'm trying to remove an item from a TimeSpan list but I need a TimeSpan for the index? If I use a List(Of String) it works fine if I use an integer for the index, but if I use List(Of TimeSpan) it wants a TimeSpan for the index. I have declared a variable like so:

but when I try to remove an item from the timespan it says it needs a Timespan and not an integer. Say I have:

That doesn't work, but if I have:

For x = 0 To 3TempTime.Remove(TimeRemover)Next
It will work How can I just remove an item from a TimeSpan list?
EDIT: Figured it out, RemoveAt was what I was looking for.

Removing URL From List In Text File
Nov 12, 2009I am attempting to get my program to store its, in this case, a Url list in a text file. This should be relatively simple and so far it has been, writing to the document has been easy and it has all worked well, however, I have been trying to get my program to remove a url from this list too. To achieve this I have created a temporary text file, named 'FavouritesTemp.txt' and write the content of a listbox (with the target of the delete command removed from it) and then replace the old text document with the new one. But I keep getting an error from this - saying that a process is already accessing this file, even though I have just created it! I have attached a picture of my error and the code I am using underneath.

Basically, I have a list of reports. In one place they get ordered, and later on the program looks to see which ones have come back -- see if the .SaveFile exists on disk. If it exists, then that report gets processed, and then I want to remove that item from the list of reports-on-order. However, I get an error message back that by doing the .Remove(R), I've changed the list itself & things won't go well with the rest of the For Each loop, which makes some sense.
When I get to this routine, the list of ordered reports will be something from a couple of dozen or less, and some number of them (perhaps zero, perhaps all, probably a few) will exist & be processed & then should be removed from the list. How should I go about accomplishing this? This is my first time working with List(of t) as a Visual Basic tool; everything I've used in the past has been with arrays, and I can do this there.
