now i search for the word basic.if i press the button find. the first "basic must highlighted, and then if i press again the button the next "basic" is the highlighted one and so on.I already finsih that scenario. What i've done is that first im going to search all the positions of the word and then store it in a array. Then after the array populated with different location of the word that is searching. that is the time i call all the indexes of the array one by one. But i don't want my approach because imagine i have 10000 words. and i search for a word or letter. Lets say the result is 5000 match. so it needs my array to be size in 5000. what a mess in memory.
I don't want to used the FinsString or Find function of VB i want some algorithm to do this. Anyone have a easy approach..

Pull up invoice information and then add some secondary information such as comments and the like Choose which documents they want to print out Open the documents and then allow the user to edit the documents That last part is the tricky part. The users right now create these documents out of Access and print to a PDF and then edit the PDF with comments that can be specific to the document and customer. If they didn't have to do that, then I could just used canned reports or something.
What I am thinking of doing is creating Word templates with text boxes and inside those text boxes adding addressable bookmarks. When the user goes to print the documents, open Word, populate the bookmarks from the database (SQL Server) and then that will let them draw text boxes and fill them with whatever they want before they print the documents and then they can save them.
Here's the code I worked out to do this (of course the final result will be much more complex):

I am using the northwind database, My goal is to create an application that has a main form area for the orders and a details section (I guess a data grid view)How can I Utilize the data grid view for inputting values such as Product, Quantity, Unit Price, Extended price.... What is the recommended way in VS.NET to have a global application handler object? Something that can load/verify/return user folders, settings, application specfic settings, manage the unhandled exceptions, etc. I would have a class that has most of the code, then subclass it for each application.
I can create one if I start as a module instead of a form. But then I lose some options such as NetworkAvailabilityChanged, etc. I define a "Public" object from within a form (I don't think so and don't feel this would be the right approach.)?can I "attach" an object to an existing global object store (such as "My."), etc.?
Once created, any object in my application should be able to reference methods/properties of this application object to get default folders, user values, etc. as necessary.

View 1 RepliesWe have an interactive windows based application written in VB .Net 2010. It uses Word Object to display documents in MS Word. We have a form with a button. When the button is clicked we open the Word document and maximize the Word Windowstate. When we have the Visual Studio Tool running, the Word Document is maximized and has focus, even if we are running the exe from the bin folder outside of the tool. However, if Visual Studio is not running and we run the exe, focus remains on the original form window and the document stays in the task bar.
View 5 RepliesI have a VB.net application that gets data off our server with ODBC and populates and saves a Word Document. When I try to deploy it to another computer it will get the data just fine and populate the first document, but it will crash before saving it. I've installed the .net framework 4.0, Microsoft Data Access Components, and the Microsoft ODBC .net data Provider. The error code is 0xC0000005, which is from what I can see is called an "Access Violation Exception." It works fine on my computer.

I'd like to save all the information to a 'new' database file. how to create a database on the fly, once that is done i'll be able to connect to it no problem, but actually creating the file is proving difficult to work/find out.
Also, with vb.net and the newly created custom file, how can it be made to automatically open that information with the program?
Is there a method in installation to associate the file type with the new program? How can i check when the program loads if a database file has been 'double-clicked' (rather than just running from the .exe of the program) and proceed to load the data?
EDIT1 - Extra InfoThe windows application has many different fields and content etc, then i need to save that to a file that could later be loaded by 'double clicking'. I assumed the easiest way would be to create a mini-database for each unique file

I have a VB application in visual studio 2005 that scans invoices, creates .tiff's utilizing a standard image scanner.
I've tried the following...I thought I could save the image to text in an array and find the 6 digit number. Then, I tried to save the image to xml trying the same principal but I get a general error A generic error occurred in GDI+.
I need to know how to use a function to do the following: Create an invoice number using the last two letters of the last name and the first four digits of the zip code.
Example:
Name: John Doe
Zip: 11111
Invoice number becomes DO1111
I have a simple question that most could probably answer. I have a button that when it is clicked it transfers information from that form to a microsoft word doc. Now what I want to do is everytime that button is clicked it creates a number that is displayed on the word doc. So this is how it would go:
first click- it would show a number 1 on the invoice.
second click- it would show a number 2 on the invoice.
This would continue as long as the program is used.
3107.DGV Print in VB2008.zip For some time I have looked ways of using a datagridview to create an invoice and print it on paper. I know that I am not the only one who wants to do this. I have seen many requests for help over the years but no solutions. The creation of the invoice in VB was relatively easy but printing it to paper presented a huge challenge. What I am presenting here is a cut down version of an invoice program to illustrate the printing of a datagrisview rather than the whole invoice project.Printing a datagridview is hard work. There is no luxury of WYSIWYG.There have been a few items on the various VB help web sites on how to print a datagridview but I, as a novice programmer, had difficulty following the code. The last one that I found and could use is:

I would suggest you download the project from this site and take a look at it as I removed much of the code that did not apply to what I wanted in my invoice. Please also note that this Code Project download prints the contents of a database and you cannot modify the DGV contents. I have made a slight modification to the print code to cater for blank or empty cells. If this is not done, the print stops at the first empty cell in the datagridview even if there is more data further down the grid - a very real situation in an invoice where lines could be left blank for clarity.
There are a few other points worth noting. FormMain is the form containing the invoice layout and is the project start form. This is done deliberately as the print sequence needs to use Form1. I have not yet found out why. Some of the buttons, tick boxes and radio buttons on the PrintOptions form do not work and are not required for this demonstration. The PrintDGV code is based on the original Code Project download. I needed a starting point and the code has been extensively modified to meet the invoice layout requirements. To save time during developing the print code, I hard coded the invoice number and customer name and address text boxes on FormMain. This information was inserted in the properties window under "Text" for the text boxes. I also hard coded the name and address of the business initiating the invoice in the PrintDGV code. I have yet to find a way of giving the end user the opportunity to create their own company name and address on another form and have it automatically inserted in the print code.
Besides just being able to print a datagridview, I have looked at what each part of the code does and I have made comments in the hope that it will make it easier for the reader to understand and learn. Although my invoice is designed to be only one page long, I have left the code at the end of the print sequence to show how multiple pages can be used.
To understand what I have done, I suggest you download the zipped file, unzip it to a folder of your choice and run it. You will see a datagridview with 16 rows of text and numbers representing goods sold. (These have been hard coded in the MainForm_Load sub routine. Removing or commenting out some of this data will leave blank cells in the DGV but the whole thing will still print.) Press the "Print" button to show the "Print Options" form. Leave all the controls in their default state and click "OK". This will take you to the "Print Preview" form where you can see what will be printed. If you want to actually use paper and ink, press the printer icon on the "Print Preview" page. The 3 check boxes in the checkedlistbox on the "Print Options" form allows you to remove columns from the printed form. I will be using this facility in the finished product as some of the new columns in the DGV will be for internal use and calculating the totals only. No totals have been shown at the bottom of the invoice to keep the demonstration as simple as possible.A future project will show how to print an invoice using a database for the items sold - a more practical application. There are some differences in the code in FormMain - mainly how to set the form to take 16 line items even if only 2 or 3 lines are used.

I'm busy with a program which assists me with all my exams, right, now, with this program I'm launching each program associated with each exam.
