Why doesn't this tiny bit of code work?
Dim kalle() As String
Dim kallestring As String
kallestring = "Hello"
[CODE]...
When I start to work with the string "kallestring" I don't know if there is data that can be split into a array or not. In this example there are just a single word so it will not be split.
And when I run this
kalle(1) = "hejhopp"
The error msg shows up because "(1)" doesn't exist. But I need to place data in "(1)", how should I do this?

I am using visual absic 2008 express edition. I am trying to produce two (FromNode, ToNode) random numbers and store in an array (ArrayTo(NoConnections)). The array should not have same values at the same time and the aary should not have the same number or the other way around. For example, The array should not have numbers like 22, 55, 66¦etc If the array has 13 and 45 then 31 and 54 is not allowed in the array and vise versa.

ok, I got a lot of conceptual code for major chunks of the game's engine...like an inventory array of variables... he says that we will be using a lot of variable arrays, and I am trying to get a variable array dimmed in an inventory module, but when I try to declare what each index of the array should be, it says "declaration expected" and simply trying to reference the array from within another form, it does not register as existing...
the code is as follows, for he has not a clue how to program in vb.net
dim character_inventory(19) as array
and when trying to tell vb.net to set an individual index to nothing, it throws a "declaration expected" error...
character_inventory(0) = nothing is when it throws that error...

I get what I'm supposed to do, and this is my 9th project in this class so I'm not new to the coding and how it works, but for some reason I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around the multidimensional array and the variables to get the program to work. Here is the first part of the instructions I was given for the project:
Write a program that will determine the cost of a Yacht rental based upon yacht type, the size of the yacht and the number of hours the yacht is rented. There are three categories of yachts: Ranger, Catalina, and Excalibur; and three yachts sizes: 20 feet, 30 feet, and 40 feet. The rental cost is the yacht price multiplied by the number of hours rented. Create an array to hold the rental prices.

I'm not getting errors anymore thankfully, but when I run the program... I choose my yacht type and size and input hours, it doesn't matter how many hours I put in - the price doesn't change. I know I'm missing something, maybe I've just been staring at it too long and need a fresh set of eyes to give it a look over and tell me what I'm missing? It also isn't calculating properly. 40 foot excalibur is supposed to charge $180 per hour and instead it's charging $125 flat rate.

I am writing an OPC Client in VB.NET (2008) and I am using an OPC wrapper from Graybox. I am having some problems with the data types. I have an Array of String that contains all of the OPC Items that I wish to read from the OPC Server. I want to set the DataSource Property of a listview and of a combobox to an array of datarows.

The 'Name' column does exist, but the ComboBox shows only the type of each datarow not the contents! If I set the datasource to a datatable, the correct column is shown in the combobox/listview.

I've been working with a sig capture application sample on a windows mobile device, The data is sent via IP to a host as a byte array and is then drawn onto the screen of the host as it appeared on the client. I was able to get this into the form of a bitmap object so I could print it or save to a jpg file. That all works well. The problem now is that I need to store this data in a database and then be able to recall it at a later time and recreate the signature image.
The byte array data is much smaller than the actual image so I would like to store it in that form. My issue is that when I convert this byte array into a string and back again my program can no longer re-create the image. Once I saw the problem I created the code below as a test and added the msgboxes to get an idea what was happened to my data.

I'm making a card game and the first thing I'm doing for it is generating a random card. I used an array for the cards (can't think of a better way to assign a picturebox to a card picture other then a huge select case block). I'm trying to split the 2D array into two parts but it doesn't work.

I have following code snippet that is supposed to replace the existing text in a local text file but instead it's just appending the new values on top of the file and pushes the older text down.
Here is the code:
