Asp.net - Bind Dictionary To GridView?
Apr 30, 2012
Algorithm to count the time that occured on the same period, how to bind the dictionary to the GridView? Pls take a look to the answer.
I tried to add a GridView and then on the code-behind: GV.DataSource = timeRangeCounts and bind it, but in return:
The data source for GridView with id 'GV' did not have any properties or attributes from which to generate columns. Ensure that your data source has content.
take a look at the code below:
The first helper class is used to hold the counts of exact and sub range matches:
Public Class TimeRangeCounter
Property ExactRangeMatch as Integer
Property SubRangeMatch as Integer

I am trying to bind a dictionary to a repeater control. I have a dictionary object which is filled with the Key (as String) and values as (Class object). I receive Object reference error when I try to DirectCast() the e.Item.DataItem to a Key-Value pair of that dictionary used for binding repeater. If you check the second screenshot, the e.Item.DataItem value is "Nothing" because of which I am getting Object reference error. What is the reason that the value is e.Item.DataItem is coming as Nothing?
aspx.vb code behind:
Private Sub PopulateRepeaterValues()
Dim tGetAddItemDtlIn As New nsFWTypeAdm.Item.cdtGetAddItemDtlIn
Dim tGetAddItemDtlOut As nsFWTypeAdm.Item.cdtGetAddItemDtlOut
Dim objItemDL As nsFWIDataAdm.IItemDL

I have bind the DataGridview with DB. To add the data from textboxes to DataGrid, I use the foll. code-
Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click
Try
Dim row0 As String() = {TextBox1.Text, TextBox2.Text, TextBox3.Text}
[CODE]...
Error is coming: Rows cannot be programmatically added to the DataGridView's rows collection when the control is data-bound. there is no any way to add data to the Gridview if we bound it to the Database.

If I have the following ASP.NET code (it's not complete - obviously there's a lot missing, but none of it matters):
<asp:GridView>
<Columns>
<asp:TemplateField>
<ItemTemplate>
[code]....
How can I bind the GridView so that one row is equivalent to one item in my MyListOfObjects list, and so that the data will populate and persist across page loads or postbacks? I've never done custom databinding like this before, so a full explanation would be very helpful. All the tutorials I've come across so far only talk about using GridViews directly with Database query results, and that's not what I need.

I have a Master Page with nested pages in ASP.NET. Fairly simply I want to databind some hyperlinks to a gridview for the master page. This however is throwing a null reference exception when I try to set the DataSource.
I tested the code on a separate page and it works as expected. When debugging I can see the Page_Load Sub hit twice, I don't know if this is the cause I have one nested page being loaded, this is a blank page at the moment
EXCEPTION
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
MASTERPAGE CODE BEHIND
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load

I have a variable defined as follows:Dim iRows As List(Of String())I've also been converting that to a list of lists just to make it easier to work with.Dim iRows As List(Of IList(Of String))I would like to bind that list to a GridView using the contents of the nested array/list to dynamically define the columns. I don't know ahead of time how many columns there will be, but I do know that they are all the same throughout the list.

So in this gridview, there is a column for status and I want to have a drop down list with Pass, Pending, Fail appear when the edit button is clicked. These values are already in a table, so I need to somehow bind from this table to each ddl for every row.Here is the column from the gridview. As you can see, I would like to just have a label showing when not in edit mode, and a ddl when the edit button is pressed
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="During Production Status" SortExpression="DuringProductionStatus">

I was assigned a task so as to bind the user related data into a grid view on user login. I have got two web pages, one of which contains Login and authentication information. This goes fine. When user was redirected to second page, I need to provide a GridView control where user details should be automatically updated in grid view control in the back ground.I have three different fields which were saved in sql table. particular user details need to be retrieved from the sql table on user login and bind the data to grid view automatically.

I want to group items from a linq query under a header, so that for each header I have a list of objects that match the header title. I assumed the solution would be to use ToDictionary to convert the objects, but this allows only one object per "group" (or dictionary key). I assumed I could create the dictionary of type (String, List Of()), but I can't figure out how to write it. As an example I have written a simplified version below.

I have the following object:
countDictionary As Dictionary(of Category, Dictionary(of Date, Integer))
The Class has a Enumeration Property. For the purposes of demonstration, I'll call it MasterCategory.I have been trying to get out an object that looks like the following:
groupedCountDictionary As Dictionary(of MasterCategory, Dictionary(of Date, Integer)
The best result I could get was:
Lookup(of MasterCategory, Dictionary(of Date, Integer))
From:
countDictionary.ToLookup(Function(o) o.Key.MasterCategory, Function(o) o.Value)
Which results in a IEnumerable (Of Dictionary(of Date, Integer)) for each MasterCategory value.However, I need that IEnumerable of Dictionary flattened to one dictionary with all the integers summed (total counts) for each date. I then tried to use various selects and group bys (from numerous stackoverflow posts) to "flatten" it, but my efforts have fallen short.
Current Code
[Category Class]
- MasterCategory As Enum
- Name As String etc

studentComboBox.DataSource = MainForm.StudentBindingSource
studentComboBox.DisplayMember = "StudentID"
studentDataGridView.DataSource = MainForm.StudentDataSet
studentDataGridView.DataMember = "Names "

I have created a Dictionary class (MyDictionary for the example). I am currently trying to pass MyDictionary into a function, filter it into a new instance of MyDictionary and pass this new instance into another method. When I am attempting to create the second instance from the filtered first instance of MyDictionary via Lambda Expressions and the ToDictionary Method, I am getting the following error:
Unable to cast object of type 'System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2[System.Int32,System.String]' to type 'MyDictionary'. I have simplified the example and recreated it in LINQPad and am getting the same error.
Here's the simplified version of my code:

I'm currently developing an application with a reasonably complex DataGridView that allows the user to build the lines of a sales document: Quantitiy, Description, Price, etc with some additional fields to help calculate price based on cost or discount i'm sure you get the jist - all this means we're not just diplaying data but adding and manipulating it - It also means there's mainly decimal fields, nit just simple text fields
Now, i'm new to VB.net, so i've perhaps done things a bit backwards during my learning curve, namely designing and coding my DGV before creating the underlying database table and binding to it - so as i'm sure you can image there's a bit recoding to do to allow for the fact that it's now bound to a datasource.
I'd got the DGV working just how a wanted it to, but now that i've bound it to a datasource i'm hiting multiple problems with: Formating the appearance of figures in the DGV Problems with blank fields while enering data (before the i try to save the data back to the database) How the DGV is functioning - it seems to behave differently when adding lines to a new sales document than it does when adding lines to an existing sales document
And given that when saving edits to an existing line i need to provide a valid update command i'm begining to think that it might be easier to scrap the databinding altogether and just Select, Add and Edit the database with code rather than binding the DGV in the IDE
I've read various threads about avoiding databinding due to it's limitations, but i've also read that it's far better in later versions of Visual Studio and .net. and i'm using VS2010
I'd just like some advise as to whether my gut feeling is right or whether i should persevere with databinding the DGV. i've noticed some quirks of databinding while working with other controls such as text and combo boxes, but i've overcome these and the result seems to be easier than coding the data transfer manually.
But i'm really struggling with databinding the DGV and the fact that i'm dtatbinding to a seperate table to the rest of the controls is leaning me away from databinding

I would have like to reload the gridview onclientclick but I couldn't find a way to do that. Is it possible to reload a gridview client-side without the user even knowing the page partially loaded?

I have a dictionary of key=string and value=datatable. I use a key to retrieve a datatable and assign that datatable to a new variable. Then I make some updates to the variable. However, I find that the dictionary itself is being updated even though I'm only updating the variable. This causes significant issues when I try to reference the dictionary later. How can I set up my dictionary so that it won't update when I use a value?
dim dt1 as datatable
dt1=dictionary(key)
For row=0 to dt1.rows.count
dt1.Rows(row)(4)=dt1.rows(row)(4)/2
Next row
'at this point, when I look up dictionary(key), the value I get shows all of the original values divided by 2.
