Asp.net - Calling A Shared Procedure From A Module?
Aug 6, 2011
I would love to use the following procedure to set the Title, keywords etc. of my pages, in a module.
Public Shared Sub SetTitle(ByVal Heading As String, ByVal Keywords As String())
Dim myMaster As Masterpage = DirectCast(Me.Master, Masterpage)
If Request.QueryString("lng") = "es" Then
[Code]....
The problem is that i get two errors.
At Me.Master i get the 'Me' is valid only within an instance method. error and at
If Request... i get the error
Cannot refer to an instance member of a class from within a shared method or shared member initializer without an explicit instance of the class.
So how do i fix these? I would like to have that procedure in a common place and not in every page.
Given in the following language specification, for me at least, calling Db.Foobar() [In the following code] does not indeed call off to the Shared Constructors of the base classes. I am curious as to a) is this my own fault for doing something wrong or b) is this an error in the language specification[code]...
Is there a way to terminate calling procedure from the callep up procedure? I tried 'Stop' from a called up procedure in an executable; it has gone stuck; I am not able to remove it(the form) from the screen!
I would like to know how can I have the same module in many different projects. The trick is that I want to be able to modify that module only in one place and still be used in all the projects.
I have no idea what is going on here but it is strange to say the least.I created a new solution in VS2008Pro under windows 7 This solution has 2 projects one for the pc and one for a CE based device. There is one class module which is shared between the 2 projects. In VS2005 under xp this same basic project worked fine but here I am seeing error messages that appear out of no where.
Example the CE portion flags 3 lines initially 1 related to a file i.o function and 2 others related to socket methods. All three of these were supported in VS2005 using framework 2.0 which is the same framework I am using here. This is just the tip of the ice berg however. If I attempt to run the code it runs fine for the pc client and of course not for the CE device. If I make any kind of change, add a line, comment a line or just add a comment I get lots more errors with odd messages that are not even valid.
In one case after I saved it jumped from 3 errors to 30, in another case to 50 and yet another to 144 errors yet the only errors that were present were the original 3 that were flagged. The ide threw errors like Try Catch must end with matching End Try.Get no longer supported ' apparently referring to the binary file get but here it is used as the get portion of the property.Get must end with matching end get.It also started complaining about functions and data types. For example saying "an is not declared" pointing to the word Boolean Or telling me my functions are not declared point to only 1/2 of the function name.
I do not see any errors in the code and it reports no errors in VS2005 under XP.As a test I tryed adding a new property to the project after it was telling me there were 144 errors. I allowed the ide to do most of the work and when I hit enter the errors went back to 3. Then I saved the project and the errors went to 105 pointing first at the new property just created.
And is this an good example of a member that should be shared? If so does both the Private and the Public need to be shared. I just started using Refactor Pro and it almost always is recommending that I make all members shared. Is there ever a good reason not to do so?
In VB6 I always wrote my apps using Sub Main as the starting point. I see in .NET I'm able to wrap it in a shared class (see [URL] for example). However, the downside is that I can't declare any class-level variables, because of course the class is never instantiated. Being shared, it limits what the code can do. So, any benefit to use a shared class and shared sub main which I'm missing here.
Otherwise it seems using a module (as in VB6) provides a lot more flexibility. Of course, I should also ask if "Application Framework" is really the way to go for real-world apps, or if it's only there for beginners and real-world coders turn it off and use Sub Main instead? If so, how are the events "UnhandledException" and "NetworkAvailabilityChanged" done if App Framework is turned off?
I have an 100 aspx files with one module file for code. All these aspx files have the same backend function, so i created on public module for all these files to access. These files are in the same folder. But for some reason the aspx files cannot access the function from that module.
mod1.vb Code (.vb file) Public Module Allinone Sub Allinone_Load(ByRef Page As Web.UI.Page)
[Code]....
I am at a roadblock of why the aspx files wont read this module? Also all these files are in the same directory
I have a console application consisting of two modules. One module named "quote" is the main module for the application. Another module named "common" contains commonly used functions and subroutines that are shared between multiple applications.
In the "common" module is a function named "quote". If I attempt to call the "quote" function from the module named "quote", then I get the following error: Error 1 'quote' is a type and cannot be used as an expression. However, if I copy the quote function from the "common" module to the "quote" module, then I no longer receive this error.
There shouldn't be an issue with calling a function that happens to have the same name as a module, but only when that function is located in a different module.
I have a form (frmMain) that contains a custom control (con class). frmMain contains a combo box control and when the user selects a value from it, I pass this value to a sub routine within con class (see red line below). This purpose of the sub routine is to populate a set of comboxes contained in con class according to the value that is passed in.
Private Sub cboGuidelines_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cboGuidelines.SelectedIndexChanged If bChanged = True Then
i created a dll file using vb.net then it has a shared function that will execute a stored procedure of mysql but my code is something long and when accessing it, it has a big risk that it can produce an error if there is an incorrect string input, i am asking an advice how i can make it much better or can point me something much better than my code as my reference.here is my codefirst i created a function named mysqlParamDatatype wiith 1 parameter, this function will detect the mysqldatatype of the mysql sproc parameter so it can pass the value with the correct datatype. but it is to long.
Shared Function mysqlParamDataType(ByVal i As Integer) As MySqlDbType If i = 1 Then Return MySqlDbType.Binary
I have been given an ASP.Net assignment at work because I had taken a few courses a couple of years ago. Currently, there are no ASP.Net programmers for me to ask here and I have searched several places (including Pro ASP Net book) to find a solution but have come up empty handed.
I have a class named spErrors which takes the values passed to it. Values passed include the offending page,function/sub, and other values and stores them in property values, then calls Response.Redirect("Errors.aspx") from the page's code behind page. In Errors.aspx, the values of the error/exception trapped in the Catch statement are displayed. This works fine from a web form. My question is, how do I call a web page from a class module?
Each class module has the ErrorHandler() procedure that passes these values to the class object. In the class, there is a Write Only property named Redirect and a method called Execute() which is used to display the error page if the error occurs in another class module. Since Response.Redirect() does not work in a class module, what namespace is needed in order for this to work?
Here is the code I'm using.
In the Catch block. Catch ex As Exception Err.Description = ex.Message ErrorHandler(Err, "function name")
I am developing a VB net application with lots of TextBox. I need to call a module everytime any of the textbox gets focus. I dont want to write code in every textbox gotfocus event, but a generic code which will call the module everytime any textbox gets focus.
I'm writing a program in vb.net 2003 and have come up with a problem.
I have a sub SettingsSave() in a module.
Public Sub SettingsSave() Dim frmSaveSettings As New frmSettings MsgBox frmSaveSettings.txtName.Value 'for testing purposes SaveSetting("MyApp", "configs", "Name",frmSaveSettings.txtName.Value) SaveSetting("MyApp", "configs", "Pass",frmSaveSettings.txtPass.Value) End Sub
I have a form frmSettings, which has a button btnSave. When the button is clicked, SettingsSave() is called. The problem is, if btnSave is clicked, then either of the two textbox values are changed, then btnSave is clicked again, the SettingsSave() sub still returns the 'old' values (from the first time the save button was clicked). How do I clear the old values from memory? I've tried adding frmSaveSettings = Nothing, and frmSaveSettings.Close at the end of the sub SettingsSave().
I get this error: Cannot refer to an instance member of a class from within a shared method or shared member initializer without an explicit instance of the class.
Partial Class _Default Inherits System.Web.UI.Page <WebMethod()> _
[Code]....
I know it has something to do with the fact that the first function is shared and the second function should probably be Public as well but I don't fully understand the reason behind it. Probably not relevant but I'm calling the web method from some javascript.
I have an application (app.exe) that has a VB Module in its source code (Module1). The module has a function called Function1. I need to call this function from another application. The module is not marked as public, so adding a reference to app.exe won't work. I'm trying to use reflection (Assembly.LoadFrom()) but unless I'm way off base, the module would have to be a class in order for me to get an instance of it.
Please nobody ask me "what have you tried?" I tried a million different things and let's just say "none of them work." So I'm looking for someone that has specific experience with doing exactly what I'm trying to do. If you don't have that experience, please move on to the next question and ignore mine.
I have a Sub Routine in a module to iterate controls on a form. I get an error about an instance of the object not created.I have declared the object and set it to the form (ModelsBox = Me). I have done this between two forms previously. Is there something fundamental that I am missing. Is this where the "Friend Shared" comes into play?
I am pretty new to VB and I am not sure why this is not working, basically I am trying to run a stored procedure from my web code. The sp runs just fine in SQL, I've tried it several times so I am sure that is not the problem. I don't want to return any results, I just want to see an "ok" statement if it runs and an error message if it doesn't. The code I am using for the lables (warnings and confirmation) is reused from earlier on the same page, the same goes for the validations (valUpload).
I've created an add-in for outlook 2010.I have a ribbon that has a button on it. When you click that button, I want it to call a procedure in the ThisAddIn.vb.There are two files: ThisAddin.vb and Ribbon.vb.I've tried several things to no avail. I've also set all the procedures to public.
Call Testing123()
Call ThisAddIn.Testing123()
Etc
How do I properly call this procedure?
****Ribbon1.vb**** Imports Microsoft.Office.Tools.Ribbon Public Class MyOutlookTab[code].....
Using the visual part of VB I can create 'event' procedures. eg. if I double click on a button on the form it will take me to the code window and insert a procedure as follows:
The code below is what I have in one form. Login_prompt is the name of the other form.In this code snippet I am displaying another form that prompts the user for a username and password.I then want to open the website and auto populate the fields. The populating is not the problem.I cannot seem to call on the other form's sub procedure correctly.
I am trying to call the form_Keydown method from a procedure, CharacterJump()
Here is my
Keydown frmGame_KeyDown(Nothing, New KeyEventArgs(Keys.Right))
What I am trying to do is after the user moves the character with the right arrow key and presses the up button to jump while still holding the right arrow key, the character will continue on moving, but the code that I put only does one movement and does not keep going.
Edit: I think I know the reason why it is only doing it once; it is because the keydown procedure is being called and therefore only executed once. The question is, how do I make it so it goes to keydown and doesn't return?
There are 2 forms open for the user in a school attendance program. The 1st. form is called FormBrowseClasses and the other form is called FormBrowseGrades. On the 2nd form is a procedure called PopulateTheDataGridWithData. That procedure loads data into a DataGrid. We would like to call PopulateTheDataGridWithData from within FormBrowseGrades so the data in the DataGrid will be refreshed.
We already tried:
' Refresh DataGrid data on FormBrowseClasses '------------------------------------------- objFormBrowseClasses.PopulateTheDataGridWithData()
but this only runs on a new instance of the form, not the currently open form. how to set this up correctly?
I have a program where I want to call a procedure. The program allows users to enter a salary in to a text box, and than displays it in a label. I have everthing going fine expect getting the main function, which would be displaying the salary. Here is the code i already have:
