I would like to know how can I have the same module in many different projects. The trick is that I want to be able to modify that module only in one place and still be used in all the projects.
I have no idea what is going on here but it is strange to say the least.I created a new solution in VS2008Pro under windows 7 This solution has 2 projects one for the pc and one for a CE based device. There is one class module which is shared between the 2 projects. In VS2005 under xp this same basic project worked fine but here I am seeing error messages that appear out of no where.
Example the CE portion flags 3 lines initially 1 related to a file i.o function and 2 others related to socket methods. All three of these were supported in VS2005 using framework 2.0 which is the same framework I am using here. This is just the tip of the ice berg however. If I attempt to run the code it runs fine for the pc client and of course not for the CE device. If I make any kind of change, add a line, comment a line or just add a comment I get lots more errors with odd messages that are not even valid.
In one case after I saved it jumped from 3 errors to 30, in another case to 50 and yet another to 144 errors yet the only errors that were present were the original 3 that were flagged. The ide threw errors like Try Catch must end with matching End Try.Get no longer supported ' apparently referring to the binary file get but here it is used as the get portion of the property.Get must end with matching end get.It also started complaining about functions and data types. For example saying "an is not declared" pointing to the word Boolean Or telling me my functions are not declared point to only 1/2 of the function name.
I do not see any errors in the code and it reports no errors in VS2005 under XP.As a test I tryed adding a new property to the project after it was telling me there were 144 errors. I allowed the ide to do most of the work and when I hit enter the errors went back to 3. Then I saved the project and the errors went to 105 pointing first at the new property just created.
i have a module which i wish to import in several projects. is there anyway i could do this? the current method that i'm using is that i'm copying over several modules in all the projects i'm doing and if i had to change a single module i had to replace that module in all the projects, that is quite troublesome
i started with 1 solution, 1 project a usual. Then i did it again, different project. Then, i wanted to have the 2 projects in 1 solution - so i copyed the project folder from solution 2 into the folder of solution 1 and added as existing project the project 2. So far so good.
Now i have a module with some public functions in project 2, that i want to use in project 1 as well. So i added to the solution a class module (some classes i want to share also) and i moved the module, (that i want to commonly use) into this class library. But it seems wrong - my application does not find the function again.
Currently, I have a solution that contains two projects (ASP.net websites, FWIW). If I create a class in Project1, how do I expose it to Project2? Is it automatically available to Project2 because they are in the same solution? Or do I need to do something special to make the connection?
Hi: How can I share the Main Module1 between projects? I have project1 in vb.net and contains Module1 (Sub Main of the application) project2 in C# in project2 I have a form1 class that contains a subroutines that need to reference 6 variables that are declared and instantiated in the project1 in the main Module1. Module1 at present is been compiled as Class Library, plus will be a reference of project2 and because I need this variables referenced from project1 it wont compile of course because they are not declared.
I would love to use the following procedure to set the Title, keywords etc. of my pages, in a module.
Public Shared Sub SetTitle(ByVal Heading As String, ByVal Keywords As String()) Dim myMaster As Masterpage = DirectCast(Me.Master, Masterpage) If Request.QueryString("lng") = "es" Then
[Code]....
The problem is that i get two errors.
At Me.Master i get the 'Me' is valid only within an instance method. error and at
If Request... i get the error
Cannot refer to an instance member of a class from within a shared method or shared member initializer without an explicit instance of the class.
So how do i fix these? I would like to have that procedure in a common place and not in every page.
And is this an good example of a member that should be shared? If so does both the Private and the Public need to be shared. I just started using Refactor Pro and it almost always is recommending that I make all members shared. Is there ever a good reason not to do so?
In VB6 I always wrote my apps using Sub Main as the starting point. I see in .NET I'm able to wrap it in a shared class (see [URL] for example). However, the downside is that I can't declare any class-level variables, because of course the class is never instantiated. Being shared, it limits what the code can do. So, any benefit to use a shared class and shared sub main which I'm missing here.
Otherwise it seems using a module (as in VB6) provides a lot more flexibility. Of course, I should also ask if "Application Framework" is really the way to go for real-world apps, or if it's only there for beginners and real-world coders turn it off and use Sub Main instead? If so, how are the events "UnhandledException" and "NetworkAvailabilityChanged" done if App Framework is turned off?
I'm currently refactoring an old Visual Basic DLL (VB.Net), which stores all of its data in one module called Globaldefinitions as public fields. There are about 200 fields, referenced thousands of times all around the code:
Public Module Globaldefinitons Public a As Short ... Public zz10 As Double
[Code]...
I need to change the module into a class with non-shared fields. This means, each and every of these thousands of references needs to reference the instance of that class:
globalDefinitionsInstance.a = 5
How do I go about this efficiently?
Regular expressions operating on the source fall flat. Refactoring tools like Re-Sharper or CodeRush don't seem to offer this functionality. Visual Studio 2010 cannot do it automatically either.
It works, when I make getBar methods public, but I don't want to expose these unneccessarily. Why I can't call private shared methods from a public one in the same class is over my head. I'm using .net framework 4.0 in a web application.
I've taken over the maintenance of the website (ASP.NET VB) and on one particular page I noticed the below code
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page Public Shared UserNumber As String Private Sub Page_Init(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Init
[Code]....
My question is whether the variable UserNumber can be accessed or changed by any other user than the current one?
Given in the following language specification, for me at least, calling Db.Foobar() [In the following code] does not indeed call off to the Shared Constructors of the base classes. I am curious as to a) is this my own fault for doing something wrong or b) is this an error in the language specification[code]...
I seem to be drawing a blank. I'd like to create a "shared" variable that is shared with all instances of a class but not classes that inherit from it. For example.Class A: Shared list As New List(Of String): list.Add("A")
Class B Inherits A: list.Add("B")Class C Inherits B: list.Add("C")The end result I'd like is that any instance of A has just A in the list. Any instance of B has A and B in the list. Any instance of C has A, B, and C in the list. I can accomplish it by creating Instance variables, but I have to construct the list for each instance of a class. I'd like to construct it once for a specific point in the Hierarchy and then share it accross other instances of that class.
I am trying to add shared members in derived classes and use that values in base classes...
I have base
class DBLayer public shared function GetDetail(byval UIN as integer) dim StrSql = string.format("select * from {0} where uin = {1}", tablename, uin) end function end class
[Code]..
currently there is error using the tablename variable of derived class in base class but i want to use it i dun know other techniques if other solutions are better then u can post it or u can say how can i make it work? confused...
is there a difference between shared events and non-shared events?
Private Shared Event EVENT_something_changed() Private Sub SUB_handles_something_changed() Handles Me.EVENT_something_changed End Sub
no errors with this code, but how is Me possible since the Event is shared. it seems like there's no errors between switching shared with un-shared and switching Me with Myclass, all 4 combinations seem to work, isn't that weird
How can I create a namespace and classes in it, then save it, and reuse the namespace in other projects? Do I have to click on Create Class Library in Visual Studio?
Im gonna develop an application s/w using VB.Net & Oralce for a small company with 4 employees and a MD.
Each has their own PC connected through a Hub.The task of MD is to check in the employees daily work progress & to calculate their incentives in daily basics...
And each emp should be able to check their daily incentives from their PC using the passwords provided by the s/w Now my doubt is. how should I show the daily incentives updates to all emps PC from MD pc?(i.e) if i install the s/w in all PCs, will they'll get the updates automatically? DOES VB.NET can be used here or should we use ASP.NET?
I have a .Net solution with 5 projects in c# and one in visual basic. I want to know whether there would be a gain of performance to convert my visual basic project to C# in the day to day while I compile my solution.
How do you add new ocx files so they can be used in your projects? I download some free ocx files and cant use them right now cause I can't get them in the side bar thing.
I have a project named "slnAllForKids" in Visual Studio 2005. I have another project named "AFKLogin." There is a page called index.aspx in slnAllForKids. I want to redirect from index.aspx to home.aspx in AFKLogin when I click submit button in index.aspx.
I am currently doing a project which is to be linked with another project. I.e., when I click on some button in my current project's page I should get a page from the other project..
I'm going to build a large project and want to create several libraries (DLL) for it. I don't want to merge them all in one EXE, but want to use seperate DLL files.I don't want those DLL's to be used by others, so these DLL's should be protected so that they can only be used in my own project.I was thinking of using some sort of password in the New() proc, but that doesn't work for shared classes.
Other solution I was thinking of: is it possible to check if the calling assembly has the same strong name as the DLL?These solutions are just one of my ideas. I don't know if those will work and am not saying that one of them is the way to go.What is the best approach to accomplish this?
