DataReader - No Data Found In Row
Jun 25, 2009I have a form in where I work with some data readers. One of my readers only gets the information from the first row. When ever I try to get something from the second row onwards I get an error saying that "no data found in row". I am using "ExecuteReader" not "ExecuteScalar". I cannot understand why I get this behaviour. Here is the The reader that gets me this error is reader2.

Sql Server - Datareader Retrieving Data
Sep 9, 2011I have Memberships and Bookings tables in database containing an attribute cust_id which is primary key in Memberships and reference key in Bookings. When i am executing data reader I want it to read cust_id values from membership table but it is reading it from the bookings table. Also when i compare two cust_id values, 1 taken from a textbox and the other taken from database column, even though both are same but the comparison result is false. I have compared using string.equals(str1, str2) and have also compared the two directly using if statement but in both cases even if the string is same but result is otherwise. [Code]

Feb 9, 2010I have a asp.net page that has several SqlDataSources defined that feed data into some graphs. The problem is that the graph product does not handle "no data" very well, and throws an error. I'd like this to handle the situation more gracefully-- so I need to check whether the SqlDataSource returned data or now before rendering the graph (and if not, just post a message saying "No Data" or something).
Is there an easy way to check if the data source returned data, and do this if/then without a bunch of code behind?

to catch nulls. Is there a better way? It seems I use this over and over again? Anyone write a function to check this something like
mydata = IfNotNull("data")
I don't know how to handle the different data types that could be returned.

No Data Returned After Updating Database
Oct 6, 2011I'm sure im just making a simple mistake some place but i just cant find it. I have datatable which I can and can make changes, save back to the database just fine. But if I reload the data after updating, no data is retrieved from the database. But if I stop debugging completely and then start again, it loads just fine...until i call Update.
Here is some code I am using for testing purposes.

Jan 13, 2012[URL] Using this I have managed to use Server Side Web Methods to perform actions with AJAX.In most instances, I just need it to do stuff (save things to a database for example) so don't need to do anything with the response, but now I've come across a situation where I do, and I can't work it out!The Web Method returns a JSON object, which looks like this:

This is the output shown from Firebug. I am not sure what the 's are, but bear with it...The AJAX call and attempt at outputting this response is:

And several other variations from info I have found on Google and SO, but it seems to treat the results variable as a string, not an array, and the output I get on the alerts is each individual character, ie;

So I wondered if results needed to be converted to JSON again (though I don't know why) so I tried
results = $.parseJSON(data.d)
But that didn't work either.
EDIT, the code which generates the response (missing out tons of logic, but this is the important bit):

1) The first function (call it GetValues()) returns values in a SQL database as a list via a stored proc. One of the fields is DateTimeSubmitted. All of this data is displayed on my webpage using a repeater control. It works fine.
2) The second function (call it NiceDate()) I created to change the DateTimeSubmitted to a nice date such as "one minute ago" or "yesterday".
My problem is I have no idea which is the best part of the process to do the conversion (at point of data extraction or in pageload etc.) or in fact how to do the conversion.

Formatting Data And Inserting Into Another SQL DB
Apr 8, 2009I am pulling data from one SQL Server database, formating the data and then inserting it into another SQL Server Database. I am looking for a faster way to do this than the one I am currently using. The data pull is about 37,000 rows, so formating it and inserting it one row at a time is very time consuming. I was hoping I could format it into a datatable and insert the datatable into second database essentially inserting all rows at the same time as if they wre within the same databse, but I have not found a way to do this.

The problem is that for some columns it sets the data type to be Double even though the spreadsheet column format is "Text" and teh column contains non-numeric data. Then when it gets to that cell it returns DBNull instead of the text value.

May 23, 2012I am working on a vb6 to vb.net migration project using vs 3.5. I have a datagridview.in a particular cell of this grid, user has to enter only numeric data. but after user enter data, itshould become concainated with a $ symbol (eg: if user enter 34, the cell value should become $34). And if he/she presses the hyphen ("-") in the key board, the data (ie. $34) should become -$34 and if again presses the hyphen button in key board, the data should become $34.
