DataReader - No Data Found In Row
Jun 25, 2009
I have a form in where I work with some data readers. One of my readers only gets the information from the first row. When ever I try to get something from the second row onwards I get an error saying that "no data found in row". I am using "ExecuteReader" not "ExecuteScalar". I cannot understand why I get this behaviour. Here is the The reader that gets me this error is reader2.
Dim reader As OleDbDataReader
Dim reader1 As OleDbDataReader
Dim sql5 As String
Dim SQL As String
sql5 = "SELECT * FROM Services WHERE ServiceID = " & Me.ServiceIDTextBox1.Text & ""
[Code].....

I have Memberships and Bookings tables in database containing an attribute cust_id which is primary key in Memberships and reference key in Bookings. When i am executing data reader I want it to read cust_id values from membership table but it is reading it from the bookings table. Also when i compare two cust_id values, 1 taken from a textbox and the other taken from database column, even though both are same but the comparison result is false. I have compared using string.equals(str1, str2) and have also compared the two directly using if statement but in both cases even if the string is same but result is otherwise. [Code]

I have an Entity Data Model with two entities in it "Roles" and "Users". There is a navigation property from I have a EntityDataSource and a GridView. The EntityDataSource points to the Users entity and has an Include="Roles" parameter.I've added a BoundField in the GridView that points to RoleName, a property of the entity Roles. However, when I execute the code I get the above error.I have used very similar code successfully in another application. Any ideas why this isn't working?
Here is my EntityDataSource:
<asp:EntityDataSource ID="EntityDataSource1" runat="server"
ConnectionString="name=pbu_checklistEntities"
DefaultContainerName="pbu_checklistEntities" EnableDelete="True"
EnableFlattening="False" EnableUpdate="True" EntitySetName="Users" Include="Role">
</asp:EntityDataSource>
And here is the BoundField:
<asp:BoundField DataField="RoleName" HeaderText="Role" SortExpression="RoleName" />

I have a delete button in a datagridview. The button works fine however when there is nothing to delete it throws an index out of range exception. Now I know for a fact people are going to click that button even though there is nothing the I am presuming the best course of action is going to be a try/catch but I am not sure how to do it. My code is as follows,
Private Sub DataGridView1_CellContentClick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventArgs) Handles DataGridView1.CellContentClick
If e.ColumnIndex <> 7 Then

I have a vb.net Windows application that calls a vb.net Web Service function. Both the vb.net application and Web Service have been in use for over 5 years and have worked well. The Windows App builds a text file consisting of a number of inserts into an Oracle table, followed by a call to an Oracle package. The Web Service call uploads the text file to the Web Server, loops through the statements in the text files and executes them. It then does a Select statement to put the resultant data in a string which is passed back to the calling program. We have both people on our local area network as well as external users where the call to the Web Server is over the internet.
The data string returned is the pricing for each of the lines inserted in the text file, separated by asterisks. Normal use of this call has anywhere from 1 to a few dozen lines, and the program works fine for this for both internal and external users.
Our problem right now is one external person is attempting to price a job with 491 individual line items. At first it would not price, whether the job was priced from a computer at the customers site or one of our internal people on the LAN. The problem turned out to be the timeout value was not long enough (it was set at 2 minutes, this job takes 5 minutes) so changing both the Timeout value in the Web Service call as well the httpRuntime executionTimeout value in the web.config file on the web server addressed the problem, but only for our internal users on the LAN. Our external customer wants to be able to price jobs of this size going forward, and I am at a loss as to why it errors on internet connected machines but not locally connected machines. Our customer is in New York, We are in Wisconsin, and I am able to recreate the error condition from my home computer.
The other thing is, if I create a VPN connection to our server from my computer at home, this job will price (again, it takes about 5 minutes) but if I disconnect the VPN connection, it gets an error after approximately 3 minutes, http 404: Not Found.The customer can otherwise price all of his other jobs with no problems, it's only this one, very large job that gets the error.
