I have created an application that reads the innerXml of the xml file and display the value in a text box , but sometimes the inner xml might be blank so the textbox is displaying nothing , what I need is to display the message "no data was found" , i did the below but still not working :
Why does my VB.Net Project disappear instead of giving an error message? This only started happening recently, but when debugging with Visual Studios instead of getting errors, the program just closes as though the stop button was pressed. This doesn't happen for all error types but it consistently happens if there is some sort of casting error. This is an overly simplified example, but the lines below would cause a program to vanish as soon as they run. Dim i As Integer i = "A" One other interesting part of this is that if that was in a try catch block the error would be caught instead of closing the program.I'm in an office setting so I've been able to test a number of configurations and have found that this problem only affects Windows XP PCs, but not Windows 7. And it consistently happens with Visual Studios 2010 Professional and Ultimate, Visual Studios 2008. Besides that we apparently we all need Windows 7.
I am studying Visual Basic How to Progra by Deitel on my own. I am a beginner. My last two programs I have received the error message: Sub Main() not found. I am certain that I typed it in underneat Module Comparison. The program will not run.
Could it be a naming problem? If so can I correct it without re-typing the entire program.
I am using 2008 Visual Basic Trial Edition. Would it be better to use 2010 Visual Studio Professional?

I've written a service in VB and a config app for the service which has a service start/stop button. In order to start and stop the service you need admin rights, under Windows 7 you right click on the exe and "run as administrator". This works ok, I've used the Visual Studio Installer to also create a desktop shortcut, but if you right click on the shortcut there is no way to run as administrator.
The question therefore is, how to run the shortcut as an admin user? Edit, if you hold shift down whilst right clicking you get the "Run as administrator" option, but you still can't change the advanced property to tick the box as its grayed out.
What does this mean? This just started I never had this error.

I try to define a connection to an ODBC source by giving the user access to "odbcad32.exe" via the shell function.
Here you can see my codesnippet. During runtime I get a "file not found" message, that is completely surprising to me. I had checked the existence of the application in the first place.
Dim RequestedApp As String = "C:WindowsSystem32odbcad32.exe" If Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO.FileSystem.FileExists(RequestedApp)
I'm trying to do the most simplest of things... open a text file. Not System.IO, just plain open a text file like you would double click it in widows.I have no problems executing other exe files with the Shell command but when I try:
Code:'...some code If System.IO.File.Exists(FILE_NAME) = True Then Shell(FILE_NAME) 'some code...
I get "file not found"...
But if I do:
Code:'...some code If System.IO.File.Exists(FILE_NAME) = True Then MsgBox("File Exists") Else MsgBox("File Does Not Exist") End If 'some code...
the message that pops up is "File Exists"!I also checked the FILE_NAME in a msgbox and the file path is correct. What could be wrong?
With no answers from Google and not finding the answers by searching, just curious as you were to go about simply giving a ListBox a horizontal scroller once it passes its visible border the same as the vertical does?
I have an ArgumentException was unhandled message: Cannot add or insert the item '1' in more than one place. You must first remove it from its current location or close it. Parameter name item. Note: Have 2 listboxes 4 textboxes double click listbox2 and it fills in the four texboxes (now it needs to put it back into listbox2 in the same place it came from but crashes. I marked the area and underlined where the error message was coming up. So double click a selection in listview2 (fills 4 textboxes) then double click textbox2 (should return text data back to listview2 in same spot) but crashes. See code below.
I have a form in where I work with some data readers. One of my readers only gets the information from the first row. When ever I try to get something from the second row onwards I get an error saying that "no data found in row". I am using "ExecuteReader" not "ExecuteScalar". I cannot understand why I get this behaviour. Here is the The reader that gets me this error is reader2.

The data is an XML in form of string and and image encoded to base64.The problem is that the server says '404 Not Found', just as if I had an incorrect URL, but my URL is 100% correct. I can get data from the server using GET, but when I try to POST it doesn't work.I checked it in Fiddler and it first gets z 401 error (not logged in) and then the 404 error, which results in an exception. Can anybody please have a look at the below code and tell me if there is something I'm doing wrong?
