Sub Main() Not Found Error Message?

Aug 1, 2010

I am studying Visual Basic How to Progra by Deitel on my own. I am a beginner. My last two programs I have received the error message: Sub Main() not found. I am certain that I typed it in underneat Module Comparison. The program will not run.

Could it be a naming problem? If so can I correct it without re-typing the entire program.

I am using 2008 Visual Basic Trial Edition. Would it be better to use 2010 Visual Studio Professional?

Odbcad32 And "file Not Found" Error Message

Sep 7, 2010

I try to define a connection to an ODBC source by giving the user access to "odbcad32.exe" via the shell function.

Here you can see my codesnippet. During runtime I get a "file not found" message, that is completely surprising to me. I had checked the existence of the application in the first place.

Dim RequestedApp
As String = "C:WindowsSystem32odbcad32.exe"

Error Message "File Not Found"

Sep 2, 2009

I'm trying to do the most simplest of things... open a text file. Not System.IO, just plain open a text file like you would double click it in widows.I have no problems executing other exe files with the Shell command but when I try:

Code:'...some code
If System.IO.File.Exists(FILE_NAME) = True Then Shell(FILE_NAME)
'some code...

I get "file not found"...

But if I do:

Code:'...some code
If System.IO.File.Exists(FILE_NAME) = True Then MsgBox("File Exists") Else MsgBox("File Does Not Exist") End If
'some code...

the message that pops up is "File Exists"!I also checked the FILE_NAME in a msgbox and the file path is correct. What could be wrong?

WCF 'sub Main Not Found

May 10, 2011

After getting a test WCF hosted in a windows service, I'm trying for another one (practice, practice, practice). I created a WCF service library, added one function. Then created a Windows Service, and added my WCF to the project. Did the rest of the stuff located here ([URL]) Now I'm getting this "Sub Mian was not found in [WCF app]" error when I try to build the solution. I didn't think WCF projects required a Sub Main as they are services and not applications. What am I doing wrong? I didn't have a sub main in my last project.

Error 3 'Sub Main' Is Declared More Than Once In 'SystemInformation': SystemInformation.Program.Main()

Jun 14, 2010

I have a solution with more than one project and the main project contains buttons to open forms from different projects that are in the same solution. Say Project1 is the main project and Project2 is the different project that gives the following error when i compile it:

Error 3 'Sub Main' is declared more than once in 'SystemInformation': SystemInformation.Program.Main(), SystemInformation.My.MyApplication.Main(Args() As String) System Information II

I have already seen other threads with this question but it does not work for me because i have more than one project. For Project2: Application Framework is disabled and the startup object is "SubMain".

Get A File Not Found Error?

Feb 3, 2010

I had the following piece of code working for the last few weeks and earlier today it seems stopped working.I have the code in a try/catchh block and in that try I create a file, "Build.bat" with code in it that will get it to do some oracle/sql wizardry

If File.Exists(Application.StartupPath & "Build.bat") Then
Shell(Application.StartupPath & "Build.bat", AppWinStyle.NormalNoFocus, True)
End If

After stepping through my code I noticed that the catch is executed at the shell line, so I put it in an if statement to see if the file exists and it always comes up as true, but on the next line I still get a File not Found error.

Try
Dim BatFile As New StreamWriter(Application.StartupPath & "Build.bat")
Dim SQLPLUS As String[co

Path Not Found : Error

I have this weird(!) issue that I cannot pass a path as a variable. I really tried everything but I always get the "Cannot find path" error when executing. It has to do with the quotes, I guess. When I print out the path it is perfect like: "C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorMijn afbeeldingen" (with quotes)Maybe a basic problem but I'm stuck-stuck!

Asp.net - Display Specific Error Message On Custom Error Page

Sep 1, 2011

I know it's possible in asp.net to create a custom error page in a web app, by putting the following line in the web.config: <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="frmErrorPage.aspx" />

I have had to do this for my web app, since it is clearly much tidier than letting the program bomb out with it's ugly default error page. My custom error page just has the customer's logo and a brief message saying "Error has occurred. Please return to homepage"The trouble now is that I have no way of knowing what caused the error, when a customer reports it.

Is there a way to make the actual error message appear on this custom error page too?
