While adding two language code files i.e. C# and VB.NET to App_Code, got an error The files ... file names ... use a different language, which is not allowed since they need to be compiled together.Is there a way to add two different language files?
View 1 RepliesI have a very simple class that is located within my App_Code folder in my VS2008 web application project. I am trying to instantiate an instance of this class from my code-behind file. Intellisense does not seem to be seeing my class and I am not sure why. I am using VB.NET which I am admittedly not that familiar with as compared to C#. Perhaps I am missing something. I would bet it has something to do with something I am missing in VB.NET.Here is my simple class (for testing):

i have been looking over the msdn article to translate an application over here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...(v=vs.80).aspx this makes sense to include resource files for each language, giving each resource the file naming convention e.g de-DE for german and letting the system pull the correct resource string through based on the regional system settings. I can see how this will work for strings such as message boxes the article states I need a resource file for each language. all variables will be the same accross all resources, I just need to store the translated string against the correct variable.
I have a question about designer contents I have several forms I've used the form designer to set the forms text and controls text.I can see that a form has a language property that you can set and translate the strings from the designer. my understanding is that a resource file will be generated per form per language changing the language property of the form.
my question is can the above msdn article be mixed with forms designer language method? if so, will this be too many resource files?What is the best practice for application translation?
I have a question about creating a multi-language application and the use of resource files. I will explain what I have done and what I would like the final product to be like.I am doing this in VB.Net and using Visual Studio 2008 After creating a new project, I added a resource file to the project (Add -> New Item, Selected Resource File, named it Resource1.resx).
I then double clicked the resource file and was able to add some names and values. For example,
Name - lblFirstName, value - John
Name - lblLastName, value - Smith
On my form, I have 2 labels: FirstName, and LastName
In Code, I added
FirstName.Text = My.Resources.Resource1.lblFirstName
LastName.Text = My.Resources.Resource1.lblLastName
If I run this code, it works fine. John and Smith are displayed on the labels. Now for my question. Say instead of first and last name the labels (buttons, menu items, etc.) were actually words that would be different in different languages. What I would like is to have something like
EnglishText.resx
SpanishText.resx
GermanText.resx
Each resource file would contain the same names, just different values. Depending on what language was selected, decided by the user (from a menu), how can I get the matching resource file to be used.
Basically what I want would be FirstName.Text = My.Resources.<Language Specific Resource File>.lblFirstName
Is something like this possible? Is this an acceptable approach? Is there a better way of doing this? I try to check often to see if there are follow up questions or if more information needs to be provided.

In my winform app in VB.NET I want to use the localization option. But i have a few questions/problems. I'm using a menu strip to select an other language. But it seems that is doesn't change my menustip text to my selected language. It does change my labels, buttons, and textboxes but menu strips don't seem to change when I choose another language. Also is it possible to get those resx files such as MyForm.fr-FR.resx compiled so it isn't an external file outside my app? Or to get those files in an Language folder at the same location of my app, so i don't have all those fr-FR & nl-Nl folders in the same location as my program?

If I have a 'Shared' object defined in the App_Code folder; is that object shared amongst all users/visitors of my website? My current problem, as stated in the title, is that I am trying to create a series of buttons from a custom class within app_code and place them on a master page. The whole reason for this is I do not want to have to copy and paste event handlers on the content pages.
However, upon the click of these buttons I need for a method on the content page to be called and update html within a div of the content page.Is there any way to accomplish updating the div of the content page from an event handler in the custom class? Remember, the method that updates the div exists on the content page.

View 2 RepliesI have multilingual application that was done in VB2005.We recently had a request to translate the application to Arabic (Egypt), so I have been happily running through all of the forms and changing the layout for Right to Left format.I have 2 forms that are problematic though.On one form, whenever I select Arabic (Egypt), it will automatically switch the selection to Arabic (Saudi Arabia) and try to add an ar-SA resx file.On the other problematic form, if I choose Arabic (Egypt), the IDE will automatically select Chinese (People's Republic of China), then copy the contents of my ar-EG resx file into the zh-CN file, overwriting all of our Chinese translations and layout changes with the Arabic ones.
View 1 RepliesWondering if it is possible. It works on the idea that all files share common code. The program would ideally analyse the source file and compare it to the reference files. It would then find common parts of the code and write it to a rebuild file. At the end the rebuild file and the reference files would then be able to rebuild the source file without it being present.
For Example.
source file code = xxyyzyzyxw
ref file 1 = xyxxzyzxwyy
ref file 2 = zxxwyzzywxx
The program would then analyse these files and make a rebuild file like the following
source(0,1) = ref1(2,3)
source(2,3) = ref1(10,11)
source(4,7) = ref2(5,6) + ref2(5,6)
source(8,9) = ref2(2,3)
Thus you would be able to build the source file using these instructions and the reference files.

View 10 RepliesWhen setting up the Ajax Control Toolkit's AutoComplete control, it creates an utoComplete.asmx and a AutoComplete.vb file. The AutoComplete.vb file automatically ends up in the App_Code folder. I was hoping to move all of these styled-classes into a separate namespace, but the compiler simply does not dig it. Is this possible, or must it be within the presentation layer to access the "Web" related namespaces?

Today i find the compiled bin files missing an now all my pages are sqwaking they cannot find the numerous Public Class - Public Shared Function's ... I have verified their build action to Compile but am unable to rebuild an have them regenerate on account of project errors.Advice on how to rebuild the bin or how to properly reference a Public Shared Function? My VB code includes an Imports statement taht used to find the class in app_code.
