I am reading file with text contents on it.sample dictionary.txt contents:
aa
abaca
abroad
apple
Snippet A:

Basically, I want to make sure that I can handle/prevent this error.Does Snippet B, solves the problem, if not is there other way so that I can prevent this error.BTW, this a web application and I am expecting multiple users.

Then i am using the targetxml right after that:

It seems that xml file is locked by the first process (WebClient).

I have a program that can save user's input into a text file and load it back, but whenever I try to open the file and exit without selecting the file I get an error.(if i select the file and open it i don't get any errors).
This is the code that handles text file loading:

I got a log file (Log.txt) a timer and a RichTextBox1.Text The timer is opening the log file again and again every milisecond here the code:

Okay that keeps the track of my log file inside my richtextbox , but there is a big problem there. My richtextbox slows down hard if the log file gets too big.. Sometimes it kicks me out of the program and in taskbar it says Program Not Responding..
I wanted to know if there is a method to read a bigger Log file with out having such issues. (It mostly happens when log file goes over 13000 characters)

So I'm in the final stages of finishing a program I've been working on for nearly a year now, and this is basically my final hurdle. The Save dialogue is working beautifully, with 'flags' in order to switch it over from the regular input into text boxes to the Listbox input protocol.
However, I'm having a *** of a time getting it to take lines from the text file and put them in the proper text box. Here is an example file:

So with the sample file I provided above, in the textbox named callNameText would appear "SHOWNAME", and so on and so forth. With this build, I get a NullReferenceException on the "Me.Controls(strboxNames(i)).Text() = strAllText(ati)" line.

A query concerning opening and saving a file.i have two commands, one the opens and another that saves [the same file].i'm using the StreamReader and StreamWriter methods.issue is this:if i comment out the open code, the save works fine.if i comment out the save code, the open works fine.if i let both run together, i get an error, usually with the save saying that the file could not be accessed. note, before anyone asks, i do close the file after saving or opening what could be the problem? open works fine, because it usually happens prior to the save, and then save process cannot access the file..?

Editing may hard your computer" and my program crushes.......The problem appears on the SECOND line, on DIM wb...blahblah.. i went to the office and unclicked the "protected view" checkboxes.. but it still throws me those errors. my guess is that the office i have in the computer is not the same as the one that my program uses to open excel files (i mean, i loaded/imported some excel.dll files in the program so i guess that will be the one) But how do i make the program not care if the excel file is "potentially dangerous"?

My Visual Basic .Net 2010 application reads data from an EXCEL spreadsheet which will be generated by my "customers". The responses to Alkis last year (23 July 2011) has been a big help and got me over a hump in my application. Now I am down to the last issue - how do I detect a blank cell? Valid data is numeric, starts at a fixed cell (A5 to be specific), and will be continuous until it ends with blank cells. While blank cells appear to print a "zero", when I try to use zero as an end criteria I get a 'System.InvalidCastException'. When I put in a specific end value (-1) in the last cell all works fine but that, of course, is an invitation to a user error.What is the difference between "Value" and "Value2" and where might I find documentation that explains the difference? Whenever I open any VBP file in Visual Basic 6.0, I get Method '~' of object '~' failed error. After that project compiles without any error i.e I can create either EXE or DLL without any error. Originally, all files are Visual Basic 5.0 vbp files and we are converting Visual Basic 5.0 to Visual Basic 6.0. We will be converting to .Net after converting to VB6. Application uses microsoft access as data storage.I am running Windows XP on my machine. I have got .Net 3.5, Jet 3.5 Sp3, Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my machine.

I need to be able to view another programs chatlog while it is running. this is the existing code. right now for testing it just reads the first line of file. this reads the file just fine as long as the other program isnt running but if it is running i get an error stating that the file is in use by another process. I'm using vb 2010 express.

I have an Excel file with utilizes macros to allow a user to enter names of people and then double click on cells to enter ratings via radio buttons. When I open a blank file and enable the macros, I can add users, rate their skills using the radio buttons, etc. with no issue. I then SaveAs the file and continue working on it. once I Save and CLOSE the file, then go to re-open it, the trouble begins. Keep in mind, there is no alteration to the macros directly. Just entering data and using the form as intended. Here's what happens.
I reopen the file.I enter in the name of a person on one line. I go to the first box - double click on it.It is supposed to pop up a dialog box which allows me to choose a rating via radio button (as I had been doing before I closed the file). Instead, in that first column of ratings, it instead gives me the following error:
Runtime error '1004'Unable to set the LineStyle property of the Border class
When I hit "debug" this is the code it points to:

The dialog box pops up, the rating can be selected. it's just the FIRST cell that gives the issue What would possibly be the cause of this? We need users of this form to be able to save, close, and re-open it if needed.

I am trying to open an Excel file using the following commands:

where 'filename' is the name of the file.However I am getting the following error message:
Message = "Old format or invalid type library. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80028018 (TYPE_E_INVDATAREAD))"
I originally developed an application where I used the above code with default language setting of "English" (under regional and language settings). When I am changing the language setting to "French", the above errror comes up. I am changing the language setting to French in order to simulate an error when this application is run in a French version computer.

I'm having some trouble using resource files. In my project I'm using a bunch of bitmap files and two txt files. Bitmaps are used as backgrounds for controls, but .txt files I want to open in Notepad or WordPad. Till now I was accesing them from a file path on my machine:
ControlName.backgroundimage = New Bitmap(direcorypath & "/Map.bmp")
Process.Start(direcorypath & "/Instrukcje.txt")
And it worked fine. Now I added these files to my resources (it's practical for me to have them in executable file) And replaced those lines with:
ControlName.backgroundimage = New Bitmap(MyProject.My.Resources.Map)
Process.Start(MyProject.My.Resources.Instrukcje)
For bitmap it works fine, but for txt file an error occurs saying that a file cannot be found.
Interestin thing is: when I type "MyProject.My.Resources.Instrukcje" in "Watch" it shows the content of the file. So it is there, only not as a file?
