Avoid Self-closing Tags When Using XML Serialization?

Feb 8, 2011

I am working with VB.NET and I am facing a problem with XML serialization. When empty values exists in the object I am serializing, the XML file contains the following tags:

<tagName/>
instead of:
<tagName></tagName>

I know that it's the same, but I want the start tag to close appropriately.

Avoid The Closing Of A Combo Box Popup Window In Datagrid

Jan 30, 2012

How To Avoid The Closing Of A Combo Box Popup Window In Datagrid? I was trying to block the closing of a custom combo box popup window in my custom DataGrid. The popup window comes by pressing F4 or ALT+DOWN keys which is getting closed if I press the down arrow for the first time after showing the first value in the combo box as selected. Next time onwards, if I press the F4 key and down arrow, I can move to any item in the popup window and select the item using keyboard and in that case, the popup window is not getting closed till I press the ENTER key or selection using the Mouse. Is there any specific reason for this behavior or something is missing in my code part?

I'm trying to analyze web pages for seo. I'm trying to create my own personal tool to extract all the keywords and tags from web pages (a little clearer).I already know how to extract or parse links and text from web pages. The issue is that I tried to implement title tags, body tags or keyword tags in general via using the following code:

Dim theElementCollection As HtmlElementCollection = WebBrowser1.Document.GetElementsByTagName("a")
For Each curElement As HtmlElement In theElementCollection
If curElement.GetAttribute("href").Contains("http://twitter.com/") Then

[code]....

Try to extract all the keywords from the title, body etc. for this page:[URL] and send it to separate textboxes (title keywords in textbox1, meta tags in textbox2 etc.).

VS 2005 - Returned Strings To Be Like When Reads Tags Of Mystrings1 And Mystrings2 While Ignore Other Tags

Apr 23, 2012

With my code as I have a trouble with the returned strings that I have extracted from my php source to add the strings in my listview.

I'm reading the tags of mystrings1 and mystrings2 for each paragraph from the php source. I got the returned strings which it looks like this:

PHP

<p id='mystrings1'>my strings</p> | <a href="http://xfvasfasfasfasf">Link</a> </td> | <a href="delete.php?id=0">Delete</a> </td> | <span id="mystrings2">Enabled</td>

I want the returned strings to be like this when I reads the tags of mystrings1 and mystrings2 while ignore the other tags.

PHP

<p id='mystrings1'>my strings</p> | <span id="mystrings2">Enabled</td>

Here's the

Do you know how I can ignore the other tags when I get the returned strings of mystrings1 and mystrings2?

Add Tags From Images And Search For It By 'tags' Such As Photobucket

Jun 21, 2010

I am planning to create a system for my case study wherein i can Add tags from images and search for it by "tags" such as photobucket. For example i open an image to my system, and it's file name was "WhiteHouse.jpg" and i added or tagged it as "Building". Once i search on my computer, and type the word/keyword "Building", the image "WhiteHouse.jpg" will be displayed on search results as i tagged it on my system.Is that possible guys? or i can only search by tags using my system/application? and not in the search command in my computer?If it is possible please tell me what to do. or if you have sample vb.net2008(windows Application) files it will be helpful. Or if you have sites related into it. pls send me those links, especially downloadable vb.net files w/ codes for further studying.

Asmx Json Serialization Versus Wcf Json Serialization?

Nov 24, 2011

I have two experimental web services. One is an asmx contained within a .net web application. The other is a WCF service library being invoked from the web application.The asmx basically does everything I need, but I think WCF would be better, except that it doesn't do anything as I would expect after fiddling with the asmx service.For example, the same method behaves differently in each:

' ASMX
<WebMethod(BufferResponse:=True, EnableSession:=False)>
Function Test(aObject as Object) as Object
' object will have been successfully serializaed into a dictionary

Closing Application Via X Button Without Closing Forms Inside Mdiparent Causes Exception Error

May 3, 2010

Form1 is a mdi container. It has a bunch of forms that can load inside of it as mdi children. If I close each open form inside the form1, and then click the red X at the top right, application exits fine.If I click the red X without closing the forms inside I get: An unhandled exception of type 'System.CannotUnloadAppDomainException' occurred in mscorlib.dll

Additional information: Error while unloading appdomain. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131015) However I can break from it. How do I get the application to not show that error? What must I do to fix those inside forms or close when the red x is clicked?

VS 2008 Closing All Forms When Program Closes Vs. Closing All But Main Form

Jun 4, 2010

Dim frm As Form
For Each frm In Forms
Set frm = Nothing
Next frm

The above code is what I used in VB6 to close all forms associated with my programs before my program closed. I have been searching for information on how to make sure all forms are closed when closing a VB2008 program.

I have seen info on using the Project Property Shutdown mode When startup form closes and I currently have this set.

Is this all that is really necessary? Will the garbage disposal close everything else to free up RAM?

Also, if I have several forms open and want to close all from the main form without closing each one individually, what is the best approach? Is there a collection like in VB6, go through the collection, compare it to the name of the main form and close it if it is not the main form?

C# - XML Serialization In .NET?

Why is XMLSession.FileList.Count always 0. I hypothesize it has something to do with the declaration above it but I am not sure what is wrong with it. Maybe it can't accept a path, if not, how can I do it?

C# - .Net XML Serialization Based On A XSD?

Oct 20, 2009

I've been serialising and deserialising .net objects using the XmlSerializer class without problem, however we now need somebody else to look at that data to perform some analysis on it.In order to help with that we've produced an XSD based on our class like so:

xsd.exe /t:DataClass Assembly.exe

The start of the XSD looks like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<xs:schema elementFormDefault="qualified" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
<xs:element name="DataClass" nillable="true" type="DataClass" />[code].....

Bizarly, the XML produced does not adhere to the XSD generated from the same class.My question then is, is there a way of telling the XmlSerializer to serialize the object based on a given XSD? As an aside, I've looked at other ways of fixing this: I've tried re-generating the classes from the generated XSD - this seemed to have the same problem.

C# - Serialization Across Projects With Inheritance?

Jul 19, 2010

I have a base class ("MyBaseClass") in a project called "BaseFramework" which is included in several solutions within the company. There are several derived class's in various projects throughout the company that inherit from "MyBaseClass". If I then create a List and add derived class's to it, it will not serialize. I realise that if I were attempting to serialize this list, and the base class and derived class were in the same project, I could simply apply the "XmlInclude" attribute to the base class and include all of the derived class's. This is however not possible across projects, because that would require a circular dependency.

The "Generate Serialization Assemblies" option in project settings does nothing for non-web projects (see [URL]). Thus the calls to serializers generate file i/o exceptions that are very unfortunate, and for which there is no cure. The method suggested above does not appear to work with VS2010 and SGEN still runs with /proxytypes enabled.

DataContract XML Serialization And XML Attributes With .NET?

Oct 21, 2011

DataContract XML serialization and XML attributes which is most interesting I have attempted to directly convert it to VB.NET, but it does not seem to give me the right results. All I get is the root element with no attributes:

<root xmlns="http://schemas.datacontract.org/2004/07/shutlBookingService" xmlns:i="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"/>

how to add attributes to an element using VB.NET

OK Here's the code:

<ServiceContract()>
<AspNetCompatibilityRequirements(RequirementsMode:=AspNetCompatibilityRequirementsMode.Allowed)>
<ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode:=InstanceContextMode.PerCall)>
Public Class Service1

[code]....

The output is:

<Test xmlns="http://schemas.datacontract.org/2004/07/shutlBookingService" xmlns:i="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"><success>0</success><timestamp>2011-10-22T09:28:52.7884244+01:00</timestamp></Test>

Which as you can see does not have success and timestamp as attributes.

Serialization Suddenly Slow - How To Fix It

Jun 11, 2009

I've been cloning my objects using serialization for awhile, and typically its been quick, at least for my purposes. After a series of updates to these objects, however, now the serialization process is much slower. Trial-and-error has so far failed to pinpoint the cause. Some of the added elements to my object are:

1.binding lists

2. an inherited dictionary class

3. more internal references (the object is actually group of nested objects, and these internal objects have more references to each other than before)

I have been careful to avoid/eliminate references to external elements when cloning, as that can lead to a cascade of extra cloning. So I think the problem is with the object structure itself. This is my serialization routine:

Friend Function CloneObj(ByVal obj As Object) As Object
If Not obj.GetType.IsSerializable Then Throw New Exception("Object not serializable")
Dim bf As New System.Runtime.Serialization.Formatters.Binary.BinaryFormatter

[code]....
