C# - Bind DataGridView To Results Of Access SQL Query String?
Sep 15, 2010
I would like to bind a DataGridView to the results of a query generated as text at runtime. How can I send a query as text to Microsoft Access and bind the results to the DataGridView? When the user clicks the button (ok_btn), I want the contents of the textbox (query_txt.Text) sent to Microsoft Access, then I want the results of the query shown in my DataGridView (results_grid).
Simple one-row queries are fine for now: (SELECT "a";, SELECT "a", "b";, SELECT now();)
NOTE: C# accepted, VB.NET preferred

I have a query that will go away an and find data
Dim HSNs As String = String.Join(",", ListOfHSNs.Cast(Of String)().ToArray())
Dim query As String = "SELECT VALUE O FROM v_BillData AS O WHERE O.HSNumber IN {'" & HSNs & "'}"
Dim hs As New ObjectQuery(Of v_BillData)(query, CType(Session("ObjectCon"), ObjectContext))
What I now wish to do is to use the results of this query to databind to a EntityDataSource?

I'm planning to create a program that would bind the search results into the datagridview in vb.net. For example, listing of students that has the same course in the datagridview.

I have 2 tables:tblcode and tbltransaction tblCode with 2 fields:Code and Description with data like
Code Description
A test1
B test2
C test3
and tbltransaction with 4 fields:transactionID,UniqueID,Code,Value with data liketransactionID and UniqueID are the primary keys)
transactionID UniqueID Code Value
120 1 A 0
120 1 B 1
I want to write a query that outputs:
transactionID UniqueID test1 test2 test3
120 1 0 1 0
so because tblcode has 3 fields I have 3 columns which are test1, test2 and test3(the descriptions of Code A,B and C) i tried to use pivots but it didn't work for me since I don't know in advance the number of rows in tblcode?

I want to create a LINQ to entities query getting data(join) out of two tables and bind the result as datasource to a datagridview.
Unfortunately I seem to stumble upon a syntax issue.

Table 2 : dcpropertydetail.tblpropertydetail

In my form i used a datagridview and in automatic have been created BindingSource, TableAdapter, TableAdapterManager and BindingNavigator.
Till here everything is ok because i can add, delete and save members of the table.
Now i wanted to use another datagridview for a research but i don't understand what to use for do that.

Everything is OK when I run this function for the first time. But when I try to run it the second time I get method range of object _global failed error. Also I've noticed that first execution creates excel process that is in my process list even after I close excel. Second execution creates second process and after error when I close excel both processes are gone.Third execution creates no error fourth creates errors .... and so on

I am making a project in VB 2008 that has a Form (form1) that allows me to add new records to a database, and another Form (form2) that allows me to search for records in a database. I have done Form1 already, but my problem arrives in Form2 where I have to query the database. This form consists of 1 textbox (txt_search.text), 1 button (btn_search) and 1 datagridview (datagridview1). The name of my database is db_extras_test2003.mdb and the table I want to search records from is tbl_contacts.
I know +/- the SQL sintax to query the database (SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE columnname = (here i dont know if i put the variable name i have set for the txtbox, or the textbox itself)).I want this in a way that I (or other users) type in the textbox, hit the Search button and the results are shown in the datagridview (i can show the results in another way if it is better to do so).I have done the connection to the database already. The code I have so far is the following, but it doesnt work

I uses datagridview for show query results from database which may have 0 to x number of rows. So I made calculation to calculate size of underlaying form and my datagridview dependable on number of matched rows. Underlying form is transparent and all of that looks like user control what appears and works just fine. But here is one issue: Every time datagrid have to grow, black square in that area is showed before datagrid is filled, what is not nice and surely unwanted. Did datagridview have some mechanism to freeze it and show data when populating is finished?
Private Sub TextBox1_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TextBox1.TextChanged
Dim tw As Integer = 0
Dim n As Integer = 0

I had done this by using the query builder (in VS Studio) but soon found out thay I gain no points by doing it this way as I am not using any code. I have tried to adapt the code I had to insert data into my database, just changing the SQL sintaxa and some other bits, but it is not working yet. Well, it gives results, but I think it is still geting the results from the query I had built using the query builder. Here is the code I've got so far:
Public Class Form2
Private Sub btn_search_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btn_search.Click
Dim str_search As String = txt_search.Text
Dim str_dob As String = txt_dob.Text

I am running the following query against a database of research reference works (books, articles, etc.):
SELECT [Names].[Last] AS Authors, [References].PubYear AS [Year], [References].ShortTitle AS Title, [References].SourceWork,
RefTypes.Description
FROM ((([References] INNER JOIN
Contributors ON [References].ID = Contributors.RefID) INNER JOIN
[code]....
This query returns one row for each Author (contributor type=1), of the specified reference. The rows will all be exactly the same except for the Author last names taken from the NAMES table. For example:
Author Year Title SourceWork Type
--------------- ------- --------------------------------- ----------- ----------
Rahner 1966 Revelation and Tradition Null Book
Ratzinger 1966 Revelation and Tradition Null Book
I'm looking for a way to consolidate the string data from the Author column into one string, so that this can return a single row with the Author field looking something like "Rahner, Ratzinger" -- like one could do if it were numeric data by using the GROUP BY clause with an aggregate function such as SUM or AVG.

I am struggling to understand fully, I need to bind data from an access database to a datagridview. (the DB simply holds a list of product with their stock code, description etc) I need to bind this datagridview to a products collection without using a dataset to bind to the datagridview. I really don't understand this fully.

I have an access query which plays flawlesly in Access.I want to use it as a source for a datagridview i use in one of my forms but....given the fact that is a rather big query with some "like" and conditions like ">3" and so on AND the fact it uses tables from 3 different mdb (not to mention is bases on other queries...i 'ill try my best to fix this) what is the best approach .
1st case .Can i retrieve the data simply with NO oledbparameteres and NO " select * xxx where yyy like 'd' ".I think there is a issue with the Oledb connection that "omits" them.To explain better the query right now with the filters in access returns 3 rows, without the filters 30 rows, can i get just the 3 rows to do my job... 2nd case . How should i fill a datagridview using tables from 3 different mdbs.If you can show me an example it would be life saving.

I have a combobox on a form. It works but I want to filter it with a constant value. I don't want to change the query in the dataset because that would affect other programs. So I click on the little arrow on the combobox in the form design view and then click on Add Query and make my new query which I preview and it's okay. The problem is I can't find any way to make the combobox reference the new query. In the properties for the combobox the Data Source is just the binding source. How do I specify a specific query?

I'm currently developing an application with a reasonably complex DataGridView that allows the user to build the lines of a sales document: Quantitiy, Description, Price, etc with some additional fields to help calculate price based on cost or discount i'm sure you get the jist - all this means we're not just diplaying data but adding and manipulating it - It also means there's mainly decimal fields, nit just simple text fields
Now, i'm new to VB.net, so i've perhaps done things a bit backwards during my learning curve, namely designing and coding my DGV before creating the underlying database table and binding to it - so as i'm sure you can image there's a bit recoding to do to allow for the fact that it's now bound to a datasource.
I'd got the DGV working just how a wanted it to, but now that i've bound it to a datasource i'm hiting multiple problems with: Formating the appearance of figures in the DGV Problems with blank fields while enering data (before the i try to save the data back to the database) How the DGV is functioning - it seems to behave differently when adding lines to a new sales document than it does when adding lines to an existing sales document
And given that when saving edits to an existing line i need to provide a valid update command i'm begining to think that it might be easier to scrap the databinding altogether and just Select, Add and Edit the database with code rather than binding the DGV in the IDE
I've read various threads about avoiding databinding due to it's limitations, but i've also read that it's far better in later versions of Visual Studio and .net. and i'm using VS2010
I'd just like some advise as to whether my gut feeling is right or whether i should persevere with databinding the DGV. i've noticed some quirks of databinding while working with other controls such as text and combo boxes, but i've overcome these and the result seems to be easier than coding the data transfer manually.
But i'm really struggling with databinding the DGV and the fact that i'm dtatbinding to a seperate table to the rest of the controls is leaning me away from databinding

If this is in the wrong section, I have a program that queries a database and puts the info in a specific format in a txt file. Now my problem comes w/ how to format the date.
Should I format the date in the SQL query OR is there a way to take the result from the query and format sometime before it is writen to the txt file? I'm not exactly sure how to do either. Would I need a subquery to get the desired date format?

I am familiar with the VB6 ADO way of dealing with SQL queries and looping through the record set results.
However, what is the correct way to query a server, cycle through the results, and dispose of my query in VB.Net? All the ways I have been using seem to be unstable and crash randomly.
I have been using the following code:
Public Function GetSQLTable(ByVal strSQL As String) As DataTable
Dim table As New DataTable
Dim adapt As SqlDataAdapter
