View 2 RepliesI've been reading up on multi-threading and just have a couple trivia questions that are ambiguous given my sources:
1) What is the max number of threads in the thread pool? The number 25 is used but I have on reference that says 25 per CPU and another that says 25 per core. I realize that both can be right but before I start making flagrant design decisions I'd like some validation.
2) Let's say I'm in the body of a delegate and I call a function or sub. Does that function/sub remain in the thread or does it revert to the parent thread? I'm guessing the former would be much easier to implement so that's probably what MS did but you just can never tell.

View 2 RepliesMy app outputs to printer and after much effort (and assistance from this forum) I got the print output formated to an acceptable output, except when certain user choices make for a multi-page document. The document prints one page and then cuts off. We formatted the output using a defined rectangle (the code for which I do not fully understand) to format the page. Can experienced users give me some help on getting a multi page output?

These are the directions for the assignment.So far I am able to get the file read and printed onto a list box.The book we have for the class does not clearly talk about using the array of structure method with formatting an imported text file.After that I'm pretty much having a bit of trouble with everything else.I know I can figure most of it out but what I'm having a big amount of trouble with is the array of structures that he wants.I know that when I have the file imported that I need to save it temporarily and go through it and at every ":" put it in an array and save that spot and then keep scanning through the file. I have a bunch of pdf files in a folder and would like to know the best way to either via a free PDF counter software or programmatically how to count the number of pages for each pdf and put the result in either a excel or access table. I already have the table populated with the pdf filenames. I googled "PDF page counter" and there were a number of hits, however I'm not sure how trust worthy these tools are. So, what some names of trust worthy pdf page counting tools/software and alternatively, are there any good VB.NET code samples that attempt this?

If the file is already a PDF then just print. What would be the best way to get the number of pages the PDF has. Also Printing via code and setting parameters such as paper_size.

I have posted this problem here some some days back back it seems there is no answer for this problem but rather people direct me to use PrintQueueWatch which is an open source namespace to monitor print document.

I am trying to get an event to fire adding value to a total when a user presses the Enter key. Not getting any compiler errors, and have tried utilizina MSDN's suggestions for IsInput, and PreviewKeydown. None are working..... I have tried working in the KeyDown using e.keyCode = Keys.Enter, and KeyPress using e.keyChar.Equals(Keys.Enter) in my conditionals.

I am writing a program to login and read information off of specific web pages.I have gotten serveral working already, but I'm having a problem with this one.

For some reason I can get it to load username and password but I cannot figure how to get it to click the go button.
I want to find the remaining number of prints left on the printer. I use a Sony UP-CX1 dye sub printer. If I go to Printer Properties>Preferences it tells me the remaining prints and also the total prints on the current thermal head. How can I tap into this information with vb.net?
View 1 RepliesSome printers aren't actually printers e.g. CutePDF, PDF995 etc are printer drivers that "print" PDF files, and the built in fax support for Windows is through a printer driver that "prints" to the fax modem.
Both PDF and fax need a little bit more information than a normal print job - PDF needs a filename, Fax needs a phone number. Usually there is a pop-up dialog that prompts the user for the extra information.
Is there any way to set this information programmatically?
There is a property Printing.PrintDocument.PrinterSettings.PrintFileName but this only seems to work when Printing.PrintDocument.PrinterSettings.PrintToFile is set to TRUE, which is not the case in these situations (even though a PDF printer writes a file, it is not "save print job to file" in the normal sense).
The PrintPreview dialog loads and correctly displays the correct number of pages.When the Print button on the dialog's toolbar is clicked, only one blank page is printed to the printer.Seperately, when calling the PrintDocument1.Print() method, all pages are printed correctly to the printer.[code]
View 4 RepliesI'm helping the IT department at my school do an audit of all our printers (there are hundreds). They are all networked, so I wrote a vb.net program that sends PJL (printer job language) commands over port 9100 to all the printers to retrieve the page count. @PJL INFO PAGECOUNT actually gets the page count for all the printers, but for color printers we also need to know the color / mono page counts (number of color pages printed, number of black and white pages printed).... the number being returned by the PAGECOUNT command right now seems to be the total pagecount on color printers, so if I can find a command that will give me either the mono or color page count, I'll have the other number. I also need the serial number of every machine (the spreadsheet I'm working off of is unreliable). @PJL INQUIRE SERIALNUMBER actually returns the serial number for about half of the HP printers, and some random non-HP ones, but I can't figure out a way to get the serial number for the other 50%. I sent emails to some of the people who wrote the articles about PJL I was following, and they advised I try using printer spooler functions (from my brief google search it would appear these are windows API's that facilitate communication with a printer).
Does anyone have any experience with working with the Printer Spooler functions or know a PJL command I might have overlooked that will help me get any of the info I'm looking for?here is my program right now. Ignore GetSerialNumber2 and GetSerialNumber3... they don't work (well actually GetSerialNumber2 works on 5 printers... but yea). GetSerialNumber() is the one that gets the serial number successfully for about half of the printers. (edit: I took out those functions in the version I posted, along with some other stuff that wasn't needed for this, to fit the post size limit)
I am using Stanav's PdfManipulation2.AddImageToPage(..., Pages) for iTextSharp library (v5.1.3) and was not able to add the image to specific pages: e.g. to add to only page 1 and 3 of a five pages PDF

I have a form on a .NET webserver using aspx pages with the vb code-behind pages. The form collects the entered data and then emails it, that part works fine.Right after it gets emailed, this code checks to see if the email was sent or not and then updates the landing page accordingly. I have heard of setting server specs to have HTML pages parsed as PHP pages by changing the .htaccess or httpd.conf files. Is there a similar solution to have HTML pages parsed as ASPX pages?
