C# - Calling Modal Window From Asp.net Secure Site Links?
Jan 28, 2011
having a modal window spawn for a secure asp.net site. I currently have a asp test site setup which when the user clicks on the login link it opens the standard asp.net login page (login.aspx) within a modal telerik RadWindow. I am calling this page using javascript and this works fine.
The challenge I have now is when a user clicks on a link within the page if that link points to a secure section the login screen loads in the main frame of the site vs. a pop-up. I realize why (aka my js funciton is not being called) my question is to work around this would the correct/acceptible approach be to call a method from each link/button that tests for user authenticaiton? If the user is authenticated then redirect to the page otherwise call the javascript funciton to open the window?
UPDATE: I have some progress to now at least determine if the user is validated. Since I am using forsm auth I can test this using ISAUthenticated
public void LinkButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (Request.IsAuthenticated == false)
{

Any Way to be able to access a file externally that is located on an internal network by a simple link. I need a way to generate links to files to dynamically in code. So say for instance I'm writing an outlook add in that strips the attachments from messages if they meet a certain size criteria. then upload the file to a server and post a temporary link to the file that can be accessed any where. I prefer to store the file on an ftp server but for security issues I can't do it that route. is there a way to do this in windows server.

I have a program that logs into a secure site, looks on the user's home page to find a list of links to reports that can be downloaded and then selects each one - this is currently a manual process but with 100 reports a time it takes a while. The idea is that all the reports will download to a specified folder with generic names so the user can play with them on their own computer rather than having to search through them online.
Anyway, everything's gone well as far as using a WebBrowser to connect to the site, log in and get the list of URLs however it falls down when it tries to link to them. I have tried two methods:
1 - Navigating straight to the URL, this gives an error message every time (asking me to try again)
2 - Directly downloading the URL with a WebRequest class (below) however this doesn't download the actual file, but rather a copy of the login page.
Current Code:
Public Sub DownFile(ByVal sFile As String, ByVal sRemoteUrl As String)
Dim wr As HttpWebRequest
Dim ws As HttpWebResponse
[Code].....

I am trying to automate with Coded UI . Now it runs fine but when an abrupt modal window / exception window appears , it halts and tries to act on it but this was not part of recording. I want to track when this modal window appears and then kill the AUT [ application that is being automated upon ].This will at-least prevent users from watching screen w/o any progress.

If I type this code (VB.net 2003):
Dim myDialog As frmTestDialog
myDialog = New frmTestDialog
myDialog.Show()
you'd expect some dialog window to appear in a non-modal state. For some reason, this isn't the case with a program I am working on. Most of the dialogs use ShowDialog() to open them, and one uses Show(). The second I try to show another non-modal dialog, the dialog appears in a modal state. Another strange thing is, before I show the dialog, there is code to shift the dialog location to centre it on the main form - this isn't executed either: the dialog appears at 0,0.
My usual trend is to blame myself for errors (usually the case), then I blame the software; I have checked every single line of code (including the generated code), and it all checks out - the dialog should be non-modal. But ... it's not. I've come across other errors in VB.net 2003; is this another instance?
I'll try creating a new dialog and displaying this non-modal, and see what happens. If it works, I can just transplant the code but this shouldn't be happening, just like if I go to a shop, ask for a cola, I expect a cola not a Chinese panda; more annoying, I return the panda, ask for a cola, and they give me the panda back do loop until I give up The system does using threading, but none of that code connects to the display dialog routines all dialogs are opened with more-or-less the above code (a few have simple validation routines).

I am trying to show a message box when an error occurs in a modal dialog window but for some reason the message box is never shown although I know the MessageBox.Show method is being hit. The try catch block is inside of an event handler for a windows form that is being shown as a modal dialog. I know that the event is being fired and that the error is being caught but the message box never opens. I've replaced the MessageBox.Show with another form show and it works fine but I'd rather use MessageBox instead of creating my own error form. I just can't seem to make MessageBox work. Is this a limitation of MessageBox? Here is a simplified version of what I am doing:

I have a repeater control that contains a hyperlink which the user will click to launch a custom aspx modal window. The hyperlink contains the "record id" value.
The user clicks the hyperlink, the code passes from code behind to javascript, which launches the custom aspx window.
How do I pass the record id parameter from javascript function so that the aspx modal window being launched can retreieve it, and run a sql query with that value.

I have a program that contains a web control and a combo box. The combo box contains a list of servers to log into. When one is selected, it loads in WebBrowser4 web control. User logs in and have a work list to work from. What I am trying to do is program this so once they are in work list and click a link, I want that clicked link to be fired off in a new, IE window, not in the WebBrowser4 web control. I want the web control to maintain the work list page that is already up.

I am trying to get my Visual Basic Web Browser to open links and buttons when clicked in a new window of my web browser by using the New Window event. I found this code to make links work in a new window of my browser, but buttons will not. When I click on a button, a new window of my form pop ups but the url says, "about:blank". Is it because the attribute is set to "href"?
Private Sub WebBrowser1_NewWindow2(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs) Handles WebBrowser1.NewWindow
Dim myElement As HtmlElement = WebBrowser1.Document.ActiveElement
Dim target As String = myElement.GetAttribute("href")
Dim newInstance As New Form1
newInstance.Show()
newInstance.WebBrowser1.Navigate(target)
e.Cancel = True

I'm having an interesting issue that I can't reproduce on a different project, but can consistently on this one. I have no clue what might be causing it, but am hoping that someone may have seen it before.
I have a main form, from which I run a series of checks. On this form, I have a listview control. Because of some issues with the refreshing of this listview control, I had to create my own messagebox. It's just a form that displays some text ( it also happens to look nicer than MsgBox; in my opinion, anyways ). It's been working great for months, until recently.
My problem is that on my main form's load event, I run this check, which returns an error within a try/catch block. I then call my custom messagebox with a message. It in turns calls it's ShowDialog() function.
In any other situation ( after the main form has been loaded ), I have no problems. The messagebox goes on the screen and behaves appropriately ( ie: waits for my input and acts as a modal dialog ( stops execution of my main form's thread ) ). However, on this onload event, my messagebox comes up and goes away almost immediately afterwards.
I've traced it all the way to the showdialog() call. For no explicable reason, it appears to skip right over this call, without me doing anything on the form.
Here's what the inner trace looks like ( when I put a breakpoint on the onclosing event for this messagebox form ):
CODE:

I am using an embedded webbrowser control to access a third-party website, populate the username and password boxes on their front page, and login. The problem I have is that the resulting window that the site returns to me is in the form of a new window. What I want to do is capture this window and all it's session/cookie data in to the original webbrowser control, as even if I direct the original window to the same resulting url, some kind of authentication data is missing and the site tells me I have logged out, even though the popup window works fine. I need that page in the original control so that I can continue to access it programmatically, and I don't really want to get in to the complication of accessing the new window, as I expect I'll have to delve in to the api or something.

I'm just curious as to how some software programs that I see out there have the ability to extract links & text from thousands of web pages at an extremely high and fast rate. Has anyone here, ever created a link or text extracting program the has the ability to parse many webpages and return data into a textbox? I know how to extract links via the webbrowser control, but it doesn't seem to parse/extract data at a very high & fast rate like many email, link & text extracting programs that I see out there.

my webbrowser navigates to a webpage. I need to store all the links into a collection, I did find the code to do the job (on this forum) and it works, but there is a problem: there are more links on the page than those the code reads, like when i right click on a picture and choose "copy shortcut" I get a link that is not showing when I display the "view source" for the entire page. I can't figure out how to do it.

I am looking for some help in finding the best way to display a progress window for a module I am working on.I have a VB2008 app using an Access 2007 db. One of the MODULES in the Access db does a masterfile update and I want to show the user what is happening in process.
The VB2008 app calls the Access module to do all the work which is FAR FASTER than having VB2008 do all the work.The goal is to have a small window popup and display the progress. Once the process is done, close the window. How would you do this? Use a Access form? That works but it not clean looking at all. Is there something else that might work better?
Something like a msgbox that opens and can be updated while the process runs. Once the process is done, it can be closed. The user will not need to interact with this window - it's just to show the applications progress.

Ive got an app that holds a list of site we have, At each site there are a few devices. The idea is when they click on a site all the details for the site are loaded and then a second thread sits and pings each device to see if its live. Im trying to do this in a seperate thread so if they click another site while its still pinging them it doesn't wait before it switches site. This all seems to be workling fine except if you click through the sites quickly, when you do that it will eventually come up with
Quote:
{"Collection was modified; enumeration operation might not execute."}
The error flags up on the "Next" line in "ThreadedPing"
Thread stuff
Public Sub ThreadedPing(ByVal dt As DataTable)

I'm deploying a VB.Net app (VS 2010 Pro) that requiers the user click a command button to open IE to a financial WEB site and download informaion from the site. The app works fine in every detail when installed on the development computer. But, on the target computer when the command button is clicked an unhandled exception occurs which says: System.IO. FileNotFoundException:File Not found.My code behind the button is Shell("C:Program Files (x86)Internet Exploreriexplore.exe www,fidelity.com",AppWinStyle.NormalFocus)
This works fine on the development computer. Do I need a way to code this as a relative path? If so,can you tell me how this is done?Throughout the app I have written relative paths to needed files using paths like (Open(Environment. GEtFolderPath (Environment. SpecialFoldder.Desktop) + "File Name). They all work fine when deployed.
