I am writing long text (1K to 2K characters long, plain xml data) into a cell in excel workbook.
The below statement throws COM error Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A03EC
range.set_Value(Type.Missing, data);If I copy paste the same xml manually into excel it just works fine ,but the same does not work progamatically.If I strip the text to something like 100/300 chars it works fine.

View 7 RepliesI am making a program that loads, edits and saves 5000 rows x 100 columns of data. The data is stored in a datagridview. I use these commands to write the file:

Every time I issue this command the whole program freezes until the computer is done writing the file. Is there some way I can get it to write this file without freezing up the program? Or, perhaps a better way to write this large data file?
I have a VB.net applications that runs on XP and creates a directory and creates an Excell workbook and saves it. But when I do the same in Vista , when it tries to create a directory to save the excel workbook, it gives me an error that the directory does not exist. If I create the directory manually, it still gives me the same error. Is there a COM call for office 2007 on Vista other than worksheet.SaveAs(FileName:=path). All else works on Vista apart from creating a directory and Saving Excell Worksheet.

I've found many links that say that what I have to do is to register the dll, modify the COM properties and other when I pass my project to the server.Now, the curious thing: in the same computer I created a user control that create an excel document and It works fine, but, I took the control and I put it inside the other Web Site project with all the same references and it throws me this exception. I have a project which opens a simple Excel file and populates it. It was working fine until this morning, when it has suddenly started giving me the error above: 'Application' is ambiguous in the namespace 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel'.I haven't changed any project references, or anything within the file itself. The references include Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel. I want to encapsulate the use of Excel Interop to make it easier to use somehow in a reuseable library.So far, I have written some tests that work good altogether, except that between each test, I force Excel to quite so that it does have handle on the test file no more in order to be able to delete.Once I quit the application instance between after each of my tests, Excel seems to be no longer responding, causing Windows to display "Excel has stopped working and is looking for a solution"
message. This message lasts a few seconds, meanwhile Excel is closing, causing the hang on the file to occur and my tests to throw an exception like "Cannot access file because it is being used by another process..."

I have been doing a lot of reading on this topic and most folks seem to agree that having Excel is required to use the COM Interop libraries. However they are never specific as to where that should be installed. Does it need to be installed on the machine I am developing on or does it need to be on every machine that I deploy to?
Edit: I should mention that this is desktop development/deployment targeted for all Windows machines.
I'm trying to copy multiple excel source files into one excel file. My current code is working only for 3 source files..If more than 3 files are there, it doesn't copy the data but creates blank work sheet in the output excel file. Lets say I have a source folder with 5 excel files. Each workbook contains one worksheet with data. It copies upto 3 worksheets along with data into output excel file.
Lets say excel1 contains A as work sheet, excel2 contains B as work sheet ,excel3 contains C as work sheet ,excel4 contains D as work sheet ,excel5 contains E as work sheet .Now my output excel file should look like..OutputExcel with A, B, C, D, E along with respective data.But my current code is giving output as A,B,C worksheets along with respective data but its creating blank sheet1,sheet2 in place of D & E.

It does this related to the line, app.Visible = True. if this line is commented out the message box appears in front, but there is no workbook visible. View 10 RepliesI'm using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel in VB.Net in order to export an .xls file as a .pdf file. This was the only method I could find without relying on third party software to be installed on the running machine or using an expensive add-on to Visual Studio. This method requires opening excel and saving a file through the code.
My problem is that I only have a trial version of Microsoft office as I never actually use it. Well the limitation of times I can open it is up as I have run the program enough times for debugging purposes and now I can't continue development on this application. Is there a development kit for visual studio that provides the API I need for this functionality without actually having Office installed? I don't need Microsoft Office so I don't want to have to buy a full version just to develop and test an application.
I've looked at some options like this, but there is very specific formatting that needs to remain intact in the .xls for the conversion to .pdf that doesn't seem to work if I use an intermediary format. I've also read a little bit about the openOffice API, but is that compatible with .Net? If so, can someone point me to a tutorial that explains how to use the API with .Net? Specifically VB if possible, but I can work with C# code.

For example, try to open the website in excel for 45 seconds. If still not open, skip and move to next line of code.
I have a .Net program that responds to worksheet updates of an Excel 2003 workbook. Sometimes when the worksheet is updated and I try to write related data to my forms, I'm getting "Cross-thread operation not valid...." errors. This confuses me, as I have never done any multi-threading in my program. Does the mere act of me responding to events of an external excel worksheet mean I am now multithreading?
