Call A Method That Compute Some Data That Method Is On Another Form In Windows Form Application?
Mar 17, 2012
i want to which way is better when concentration is on processing speed. i want to call a method that compute some data that method is on another form in my windows form application then what you prefer is better way 1) to call that method in another form and use returned value or create similar method in form where it is required.i want to make it's processing fast.
I have a small program which draws some lines with a method called: Drawlines But Now I want to call this method in the load form routine. So if the form is loaded the lines should be drawn in the picturebox. But is this possible or should the form first be loaded completely before you can call methods in that same form?
In Visual Studio 2010, create a VB.net Windows Forms App. Add 2 forms: Form1 and Form2. In the Form1 Load event type Form2.Close(). Now if we look in the method definition Close() is not a static (shared) method. So how is this possible to compile or to work at run time.
Furthermore, do the same thing in C# and Form2.Close(); doesn't compile.
What's going on? Why is this possible in VB.net and what is actually happening when that line of code is executed?
When an instantiated class calls a method in the parent form class, VB.NET starts a new instance of the form class instead of calling the method on to the active one.How do I tell it that I have just one instance of my form class, or that I don't want to create a new instance of the form and just call the method on the already active form?
First forms project. My textbook [wrox VB 2880 Programmer's Reference, Rod Stephens] gives snippet that starts with [which intnellisense completes, except for variable names, including trailing 'paint' which seems to be the problem]
Public Class Form1 Private Sub form1_paint(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.TableLayoutCellPaintEventArgs) Handles MyBase.Paint End Sub End Class
which generates error :
Error 1 Method 'Private Sub form1_paint(sender As Object, e As System.Windows.Forms.TableLayoutCellPaintEventArgs)' cannot handle event
'Public Event Paint(sender As Object, e As System.Windows.Forms.PaintEventArgs)' because they do not have a compatible signature .
Changing 'Private' to 'Public' does not fix the error.
I have a Application that Crypts all Files in a Directory and the Subdirectories
Public Shared Sub CryptAllFiles(ByVal crypt As Object) 'check if this dir exists Dim vDirInfo As New DirectoryInfo(vPath) If Not vDirInfo.Exists Then Exit Sub 'get all files' sizes in current path
I wrote an application which parses a website and downloads an mp4 file from website. User can select the path where he wants to download the video. When I try to download I get an exception for the file, Access Denied to Path. When I gave the permissions to folder that I chose, then works fine. How can I resolve that problem? End-User will select the folder. How do I change the permissions?
I have a self-hosted WCF service (VB) residing on a server. This service has a method, which I call from another application, that is supposed to kick off a .cmd file which calls a 3rd party program.
My WCF has used both the old Shell() command and the Process() object. Both can call the .cmd file (located on the server's local drive). The .cmd file looks like this:
CODE:
Now I know the .cmd file (saved as Letter.cmd) is firing because when I check the txt file after testing my app, the before/after statements have been written. However, the 3rd party application does not start.
Now the weird part -- if I double click the cmd file from explorer, the test statements are written to the text file AND the 3rd party application kicks off. Runs great.
I've double-checked the application and corresponding files to make sure NETWORK_SERVICE has permissions and my service is running under that account.
I have a Deployment project which creates an MSI setup file to install a service. (VB .NET) I have a reference to another project which is a win form application and has a setup form which takes the user name, password and some other settings information which will be used by a service. It has "Finish" and "Cancel" buttons. I am creating a new instance of this form on Sub New() of the ProjectInstaller Class, so user can input information, click Finish and installation completes. The service is then automatically started. Now, when I click Cancel on the settings form, I am not able to exit out and halt the installation process. Instead it installs the service !! How can I use the Rollback or Uninstall methods to do the task? I was trying this -
On cancel_click, set boolean var cacelStatus = True On Sub New() method of ProjectInstaller class, I am checking - If true - uninstall, else - install
I Have one Windows Application in which i have one MDI Form (Say App1). And I too have another Windows Application in which I have a Child Form (Say App2). So now i want to Call App2 from App1 .. And want to Display App2 form As MDIChild in App1 MDI Form . I am Able to open the Form of App2 , But how to set It As App1' Child .
Consider a MyForm class that contains a shadowed implementation of Show(). It also contains a CreateForm() method, which accepts an instance of the form and calls the shadowed sub:
I need to explicitly load my data source variables and then call the insert method associated with the data source. The sample VB .net code is listed below. So is it sufficient for me to just call the Insert() method when I am ready to insert my values? Or do I need to create an insert event? You see if I look at the properties window for the data source, there is a lightning bolt icon that will generate events for the data source such as Insert,Inserting,Disposing,Init,Load etc.
Protected Sub btnSave_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Me.SqlDataSource1.InsertParameters.Add("@Title", "Mr.") Me.SqlDataSource1.Insert()
I am adding a web interface (ASPX.NET: VB) to a data acquisition system developed with LabVIEW which outputs raw data files. These raw data files are the binary representation of a LabVIEW cluster (essentially a structure).LabVIEW provides functions to instantiate a class or structure or call a method defined in a .NET DLL file.I plan to create a DLL file containing a structure definition and a class with methods to transfer the structure. When the webpage requests data, it would call a LabVIEW executable with a filename parameter. The LabVIEW code would instantiate the structure, populate the structure from the data file, then call the method to transfer the data back to the website.
How do you recommend I transfer (copy) an instance of a structure from one .NET program to the VB.NET program that executed it?
I have a unique challenge that I just cannot seem to get by...I have a form with a series of listboxes that allows the user to rename items in the listbox (I probably should be using a listview control instead). When the user right-clicks and selects rename from the context menu I show a simple form with two labels & text boxes showing the selected list box item in one textbox...the other is blank waiting for the user to enter a new name. What I'd like to do is when the user closes the rename form, the information is passed back to the calling form and a listbox refresh method is fired to show the changed name. Couple question:
First, is there an easier method to implement the renaming concept in a listbox (probably should be using a list view) i.e., have I overcomplicated things?
I have a new developer that is calling Showdialog (in VB.NET) on a Windows Forms form without first creating an instance of the form. How is this possible? I don't see a shared method for ShowDialog...
I'm not crazy about this approach either as it seems to me that the dialog will not be disposed until the application exits. What am I missing? Is this a new best practice?OK, Form2 is just a blank form.Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object,
ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Form2.ShowDialog() End Sub End Class
I converted a Vb.Net Form (which was previously written in vb6) with sharpdevelop to c#, now i am getting error that no suitable main method can be found.
How can I show a form as a child of a window that isn't in my program?I have a window handle to what should be the parent, but I don't see any managed method for SetParent() on a form. Is there one? It also seems that the form.Show() method only accepts managed objects implementing IWin32Window.f there isn't a managed method, what is the preferred method for declaring the API for maximum compatibility with future systems? Like this?:
<DllImport("user32.dll")> _ Private Shared Function SetParent(hWndChild As IntPtr, hWndNewParent As IntPtr) As IntPtr End Function
I have a form which contains a fairly large number of values. I am currently submitting with a POST method, but I wish to convert this to do it with jQuery via AJAX. I have been experimenting with converting my code-behind "save to database" function into a Web Method. I am using a two-step function method, firstly preparing all the variables from Request.Form("parameterName") and then passing them all into a "saveData" function as follows:
[Code]...
From the post mentioned above, I can see I can send this string, but how do I process it server-side when recieved? The article implied that HttpContext.Current.Request.Form("parameterName") should work, but it doesn't... I'm guessing because I need to access it from the txtQuery variable..
I would like a method that opens a form which has a textbox. The user then types into the text ox and click the button "OK". The method then performs an action on the userinput before returning the manipulated value to the program.
