Call The XmlDocument.Load Method Asynchronously?
Aug 31, 2011
I have working code to read an RSS feed that uses:
Dim doc As New XmlDocument
doc.Load("http://...")
Dim channel As XmlElement = doc("rss")("channel")
Dim items As XmlNodeList = channel.GetElementsByTagName("item")
Unfortunately the doc.Load call causes the rest of the program to become unresponsive until it finishes. What's the best way to perform the load asynchronously and have a callback function to process the data?Edit: Here's the code I've tried using WebClient - the Load method is still lagging:
Private Sub checkResults()
'request rss feed
Dim w As New System.Net.WebClient
[code]....
The rssReadCallback method is executed fairly quickly after calling checkResults, but then the UI freezes during the Load method.

im making a transport agent for exchange and am getting hung up on how to call a method asyncronously. Im doing this based on an msdn article but like usual they didnt provide the part of the code i need to figure out.the article is in C# but i converted it to vb in my project. [URL]I know I need to setup a delegate for the method and then invoke that delegate, but im not 100% on how to implement this.
Imports Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Transport.Routing
Imports Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Transport
Namespace TestTransportAgent

I have a flash video player embedded in a page which has javascript calls for it's controls, specifically calling playStarted() when the play button is pressed. I want to capture this event asynchronously to record when people are actually playing the video versus visiting the page, but I'm not really sure how to do this.
I was thinking the "hack" of a way would be to create a javascript function called playStarted() that would post the video ID to a separate ASP.NET page that would then record it to SQL (where I store my data on page visits and where I want to store my data on video plays.)
But ideally there is a better way to do this where I can register the javascript to the script manager so it can trigger a public sub asynchronously when it's called

I need to call a stored proc from a .NET web page which takes around 15 min to process. We do not want user not to be able to browse the website in the meanwhile. Is calling it asynchronously the way to go or are there any other recommended ways?

I'm attempting to load an xml document from an XML column in MSSQL 2008, into an XmlDocument (see code below).
Sometimes the code will break at the xdoc.Load(xr) line with the error "Unexpected end of file and occurred". After breaking, the XmlReader has a value of "None".
While researching the problem, I saw posts that referred to a 4Kb limit on StreamReaders and figured this may be related somehow. So I cut down the size of my document (to around 4Kb) and everything worked fine.
On average, the XML documents I'm importing from the database are 20Kb.
how to get a 'large' amounts of XML from the database into my XmlDocument?
Dim xr As XmlReader = ExportAdapter.GetEditedCheckXML(chkId)
Dim xdoc As New XmlDocument
xdoc.Load(xr)
[Code].....

I have a small program which draws some lines with a method called: Drawlines But Now I want to call this method in the load form routine. So if the form is loaded the lines should be drawn in the picturebox. But is this possible or should the form first be loaded completely before you can call methods in that same form?

I have a class that runs as a thread. While the thread is running, I want to call a method in that thread. I do this commonly where a thread calls a method in the GUI with a delegate. But I'm confused how to do this when the called thread is not the GUI and there are no parameters passed to the called method.

may I just ask a seemingly simple question for which I can't find any solution throughout all the VB.NET documentation: I have to call a (non-static) method of another object (instance!) based upon the name of the method (given as a string).

I have a method called ADD in a class that connects to a database. The database class name is XDB. I also have an object named XXX in it's own separate class with properties. One of the instructions for the Button named ADD click event is:
'Call Add method passing in the XXX object
So this is how I coded:
'declare a variable X as an object instance of XXX
Dim X As New XXX[code].....
I know it's wrong since it doesn't add the XXX and the form doesn't close but I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

REF: http:[url].....The above reference is where I got the code below. This code adds buttons to Form1. When a button is clicked a messagebox appears stating what button was clicked. I want to have the ClickHandler fill a RichTextBox on Form1 (I added a RTB to Form1). My problem is I can't do a Dim xForm As New Form1 to fill the RTB from the ButtonArray Class. I can place my file's text in a MessageBox so I know the code I added is correct. I also tried placing a Property method on Form1 and using a Accessor to fill the RTB, however it also requires Dim xForm As New Form1. How can I get my data from files to the RichTextBox on Form1 from the ClickHandler in the ButtonArray Class? See ButtonArray Class Below.

Imports System.Text
Imports System.Collections.CollectionBase[code].....
