Capture The Enter Key When The Combo Box Has Items In Its List
Aug 25, 2010
I have been using the combo Box keypress event to capture the enter key when it is being pressed by the user within the combobox. The combo box style I am using is Drop Down. When there are no items in the combo box list the keypress event will capture the enter key. When I add any items to the list portion of the combo box the keypress event not longer captures the enter key. How do I capture the enter key when the combo box has items in its list.
am trying trying to write some code for a ComboBox that does the following:
1. Allow the user to enter text into the combo box to type entries contained in the list source.
2. Enable autocomplete to assist the user in selecting entries in the list source, both from dropped down state and non dropped down state.
3. Restrict the user from typing an entry that doesn't exist in the list source.
My requirements are:
1. The ComboBox must run some code after a selection has been made or the user has finished typing an entry (not after the focus has been moved to another control)
2. The code must only run once after the user has made a selection from the combobox or has finished typing an entry
The problem: To achieve the above functionality, I had to run code on numerous event's. Sureley there is a better way, here are the events and the reason for the code:
SelectedIndexChanged:This is the code that is run when the user makes a selection. No Mystery here
KeyDown:
Must Run If e.KeyCode = Keys.Return Then ComboBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(Nothing, Nothing) End If
Ok what I have is a combo box with a set of default items but i want the user to be able add new items to the combo box's item list. i currently have a text box and a command button for the user to use to add new items to the list with this code attached
ComboBox1.Items.Add(TextBox1.Text)
when the program is closed the item is no longer in the combo box items list.
so what i would like to know is the correct code to make the additions to the combo box's items list permanent or at least until the user chooses to remove them.
Ok, so this is VERY simple to do IF I was working with a regular Textbox control. But of course, Microsoft does not have an "AcceptsReturn" property for a MaskedTextbox Control.
So, if the user finishes typing in the MaskedTextbox control and hits the [Enter] key.... How do I capture that key stroke with this type of control? Also, what if this MaskedTextbox is on a UserControl, not a regular WindowsForm?
The image below shows a part of my Login form . The program works fine and I am able to login when I press the Enter Button. But I want to Login when I press My Enter Button (Return Button) on my Keyboard. How can I do this ?
I know how to add the items during design time but how do you add the items through code. I want to fill the combo box in the datagrid with the results of an SQL query?
I want to have a counter that measures when a mouse enters/leaves a form. To that extent I used the .mouseenter/.mouseleave commands. This works to an extent. The problem is that moving the mouse over any controls inside a form count as existing it- I don't want this. Is there a way to define the controls as a part of the form? Meaning- if the mouse was over one of my labels- it would count as being within the form. A less elegant way to measure form access could be to use the form positioning, and define capture any mouse movement within it.
I'm using the combo box control in VB.It is not bound to a data source.Visual Studio gave me a text box to enter the values for the combo box. When I run the program, there is a blank value? How do I eliminate this blank (or null) combo value? My combo box is a required field.
For example I entered Option 1 Option 2 Option 3
When the program is ran, the combo box has <blank> (which is selected) Option 1
I have to create a form that I enter the price of gas each month over a year. I enter the price in a text box and click the enter button to send the price to a list box immediatley and use an array. I have the following code but I don't think it's working with the array correctly as it will let me enter the information but doesn't stop letting me enter after the 12 prices. I am really having a hard time trying to figure out how to set up this input for an array and make it all work.
How Do I Make It So You Can Press Enter Instead Of A Go Button In The Website URL Box (Tool Strip Combo Box)? I Am Making A Tabbed Web Browser And The Current Code For The Go Button Is:
Create an application that allows the user to select or enter into a combo box the number of days a person will work, and calculates the total amount of pay she will receive over that period of time. Salary is one penny the first day, two pennies the second day, four pennies the third say, and continuing to double each day.
The combo box must list the following items: 30, 180, 365, and 1000. Must be the default drop down box. Use a validating event procedure on the combo box.
The program should go through a loop once for each day, doubling the number of pennies with each iteration of the loop. You will need a running totl of the number of pennies that you add to with each iteration. To calculate the total amount of pay, multiply the total number of pennies by .01 and show the result in currency format.
Public Class Form1
Private Sub ComboBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ComboBox1.SelectedIndexChanged
the code for adding items in the combo box but without duplicates. i have an assignment which is a simple web browser. the combo box will be the address bar. and everytime i input an address, it will be added in combo box and should not repeat just like in the browsers
How to add links to combo box's items...... Like when the form is loaded, the items are already there. If you select one it will take you to a website....And how do you make it so the items in the combo box are (PERMANENT) AND dont erase..
I have a combo box in my vb.net webbrowser when during a particular session the cobo box displays the all pages visited when the form is closed all vanishes[code]...
I have a combobox with a list of items in it. Now when the user enters a character I want the combox show the list of items that starts with the specified character.
My download manager records the history of your downloads, The problem is that I can't seem to find a code to save the Items in that combo box in a txt file.
So I've looked at some of the posts on updating the combo box and none of the methods seem to work for me.
I have two forms I will refer to as Parent, Child. The Parent form contains a combo box of Business names from my database. The Child form adds a Business to my database. After I exit the Child form I want the combo box on the Parent form to update with the new business.
Also I created the combo box by click-dragging the Business table from my Data Sources window to my form.
I am trying to add the ability to select a camera to my program to start with I need to list the currently installed devices in a drop down menu much like what is used in MSN's webcam selection but the only thing that I can find that comes close is
Declare Function capGetDriverDescriptionA Lib "avicap32.dll" _ (ByVal wDriverIndex As Short, _ ByVal lpszName As String, ByVal cbName As Integer, ByVal lpszVer As String, _ ByVal cbVer As Integer) As Boolean
This, even with 4 different webcams installed, returns "Windows WDM image capture"
I'm looping all the properties in an object via reflection:
For Each p As PropertyInfo In values.[GetType]().GetProperties() If p.CanRead Then 'Do stuff End If Next
how to determine whether the property in question is a generic List(Of T)? If it is I need to loop the list itself.
I've experimented with GetType and TypeOf but have not managed to get anything working.
To clarify, I want to keep this generic. I do not want to specify the type of T, I need to loop the list items and call the ToString method on each item. T could be one of a number of different types (application specific reference types). Is it possible to do this without specifying types?
This program is supposed to allow the user to check items in a checked list box. If the item is checked, it goes into the Completed List Box on the right. The program then adds the unchecked items to the Pending list box on the left. I keep getting placement values (e.g. O,1,2) instead of the strings (e.g. "Key Returned") in the list box results (see photo attached)
Public Class frmCheckOut Dim i As Integer Dim cleaning As String = "Cleaning Inspection" Dim damage As String = "Damage Repaired"
Another program I am working on for fun, I am basically shuffling a list inside a listbox, what I want to do is delete the rest but not sure how to go through with that. At the moment I have this: [code] Just contains the code, declarations outside weren't included. So anyway, once clicked, it will call on the function to basically shuffle in a for loop, I was wondering if I should (or how should) create another function and call it in the click button or have just a loop in the click button so it deletes half the list. What I am doing is I have 20 list of items, I want the program to shuffle the items and then deleting the lower 10, meaning, if I had 10 items and wanted 5 top, I'd want: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and deleting 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.
I have a datagridview with a combobox coloumn. A few items have veen added to it. (Say Furniture, Property etc.).I wish when I select Property, the column 2 of my current row should get text Property.Which event to be fired for this. I tried _CellValueChanged etc. but that did not work.
i recently add two combo boxes in my form. the first combo box contains the categories of movies. and the other one is the list of movies sorted according to the category of movie. i just wondering how i could i add and view movies for the second combo box, when i click one of the category of movie.
