Close Pop-up Window Using Shdocvw?

Sep 22, 2011

I used to close pop-up windows in VBA using the following [code]...

You can see I have to check if the pop-up was opened and then close it.

I've migrated to VB.NET e2010 and it doesn't work.

I've found how to handle events and use the NewWindow to cancel the opening of the pop-up.

Unfortunately by cancelling instead of closing after it was opened, it causes a script error by JavaScript on the main page.

Getting A New Session In IE Using SHDocVw.InternetExplorer?

Jun 4, 2010

We are using SHDocVw.InternetExplorer in VB.Net to navigate to a web page and insert the login credentials since we have to log into multiple accounts throughout the day. We want to be able to be logged into to multiple accounts in different windows at the same time, but I don't know how to get a new session started.If I log into account A, and then try to log into account B, it opens a new window but is automatically account A, since the browser remembers being logged in with that session.Is there a newSession or something similar that I can call that will get around this problem?

Edit: is this something can can be done using the Navigate function by setting a header?

This is running on an XP SP3 system (no Vista). The browser being used is IE7. Everything is fully patched. Normally, the code works just fine. The users using this program *always* have lots of open IE windows. This normally returns the correct number of IE sessions that are open. (I then cycle through the windows to find the IE session with a particular URL.)

Hide Browser Control In SHDocVw.InternetExplorer?

Sep 22, 2010

I need to temporarily hide the control in SHDocVw.InternetExplorer (IE8) that displays the contents of a web page. Setting the SHDocVw.InternetExplorer.Visible property causes the entire form to be hidden. I only need to temporarily hide the control that displays the web page (i.e., the control that is analogous to System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser in .Net). The Internet Explorer form and all other controls (including the tab that is associated with the web page) should remain visible.

My first thought is to iterate through all of the child controls of SHDocVw.InternetExplorer, search for the control that displays the web page and then set its Visible property, but I'm not sure how to do this because SHDocVw.InternetExplorer is a COM object.

.net 3.5 - Change API Reference At Runtime?

Feb 15, 2010

I'm writing an application for a device running Windows XP. There are 2 versions of the device and each version has its own API to communicate with the device's software. The application I'm writing needs to pull the same data from the API. My question is how to write a application that will detect at runtime which version of the device it is on and use the appropriate API.

I've created an interface containing all of the common methods and also classes for each device that implement the interface. Now I need to know how to activate the correct one at runtime.

Public Interface IAPI

Function GetActiveProgram() As String

Change Breakpoint - Debug A Null Reference Exception

Sep 25, 2009

I'm having some trouble with breakpoints. I'm trying to debug a null reference exception. However if I set a breakpoint right before the null exception normally occurs, the null exception stops occuring. Here is a (very) simplified code snippet to give an example of my code.

[Code]....

In my real project, the line that calls DoSomething will throw a null reference trying to access MyChild. However if I put a breakpoint at that line, MyChild exists, and the call goes through without a problem. In the past, this was usually sign of a race condition in my code. In this scenario however, there are no other threads that modify MyList or any MyParent objects. What could possibly occur when visual studio breaks into code that preserves MyChild object that does not occur when no breakpoint exist? IDE :: Visual Studio 2010 Reference Path To Local Assembly Won't Change?

Jul 20, 2010

We have upgraded our project from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010 without any issues until now. Our project contains a folder call Libraries which contains different versions of Oracle ODP.NET DLL's as well as different versions of Telerik DLL's. Our project contains references to one of the versions of each. The problem is once we remove the reference and re-add it by browsing to the new version, again inside the Libraries folder inside the project, it adds the reference, but to the same version we just removed. We can even copy the DLL to our desktop, remove the reference and add to the new one on our desktop and it still will point to the Libraries folder version???. The only we we can actual change the reference to the new DLL is by manually changing the path in the .vbproj file, which is obviously not going to work for us. The same behaviour worked perfectly in VS 2008. We switch our references quite often, when new versions come out, but also far more often to QA different versions of ODP.NET and Telerik Control DLL's, so manually editing the .vbproj file is becoming quickly cumbersome. If I browse to a specific version at a specific path, Visual Studio should ALWAYS do what I'm telling it to do..

I did some seaching and came across a few other people with the same issue. This better not be as designed and if it's a bug, which I believe it to be, when will it be fixed?[URL]..

How To Change The .proj File To Include Reference Dlls When Doing An Auto Build With A Project

Aug 27, 2010

I have a simple vb.net project that outputs a dll. In order to build this project, I have to reference some 3 3rd party dlls by manually adding them to the project and then building.

What I want to do now is auto build this using a app called CruiseControl. . . I have been told that in order to use the 3 3rd party dlls, I have to modify the .proj file to include the .dlls. The thing is, where in the proj file do I include this
and how do I do this? I think I may know where the section is and I have included it here:

[code...]

When I run the auto build program it fails (it runs through but fails at compile time); when I build this manually it works when i refer the dlls. What am I missing to make this work?

Error - Reference To A Non-shared Member Requires An Object Reference

Dec 7, 2010

I am opening frmB (variable for FormB - the actual form) from frmA. From btn1 I open frmB like this:

frmB = New FormB()
frmB.Show()

From btn2 (frmB is already open) I bring frmB to the front from behind frmA:

FormB.Show()
FormB.BringToFront().

No problem so far. Now I need to pass an arg to frmB. This is where I am having the problem.

from btn1 (in frmA) I do this:

frmB = New FormB(myArg) '--pass myArg to constructor of FormB -- no problem here
frmB.Show()

then from btn2 -- this is where I have the problem

FormB.Show()
FormB.BringToFront()

I tried placing myArg in FormB.Show(myArg) but that did not fix the problem. What is the correct way to pass myArg to FormB (frmB) in this scenario? Do I need to share FormB or frmB? How do I do this? "frmB" is frmA level variable.
