Classes And Connections To The Database?

i've been previously using Visual Studios built in wizards for manipulating data access to and from an MSAccess Database, however just recently i coded my own classes and connections to the database, ive been able to select, update and delete records effectively however my problem comes with inserting records.
I have a 3 tiered table database:Tbl_PO, Tbl_Parts, Tbl_Shipments each po has multiple parts, each part has multiple shipments.when i insert a record into the tbl_PO, i need to retrieve the ID used on that insertion.

I'm doing an application which uses the Database Wizard to link the textboxes, labels, and combo boxes to the data base. (Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2008). (Visual Basic 2008 by Shelly Cashman-Chapter 10)There are two problems: One of the combo boxes has the unique key identifier. You are supposed to be able to use the combo box arrow to select one of the unique keys. Every time I click on one of the unique keys to see the records connected to it, VB acts like I'm trying to input a duplicate key. My teacher hasn't been able to figure this one either. If I was connecting the code, I could fix this but I have no clue since I have to use the Database Wizard on how to fix it.

I am on a general scenario of deploying my vb.net database application on my client's computer.
Thinking of future problem of changing the database connection setting, i am planning to store it in a normal xml file in the app directory so that where ever it is installed, in order to make database configuration i only need to make change to that file and my program runs smoothly.
So is this idea of storing database connection setting to xml config file in app directory or is there any other better idea?
I am planning it for vb.net winforms applications

This may have been answered but my search hasn't found what I was looking for. Basically, I am developing an application which allows the user to build a query at design time, i.e. for users with no prerequisite knowledge of SQL The application thus far allows the user to select which table(s) from the database they wish to start querying (I won't go into the details of the rest for now)
My confusion is this; I already have the connection to the database in a subroutine which obtains the schema information and filters it to display only the available tables within the database, which then compiles the data into a listbox, here is that sub:

I have an multi-database ODBC connection through a DSN. There is a primary database and two auxiliary catalogs. The Add Tables dialog in Microsoft Query only shows the tables in the primary database. If I pick one and continue on, the lists of columns in other parts of MS Query show all the columns in both the primary and auxiliary databases. If I pick a column, MS Query will look for that column in the primary database (great if it happens to be there, not so great if it doesn't). If I don't use any of the drop-down lists and just write a query in the freeform SQL editor, fully qualifying everything with the catalog names, the query runs fine.It looks as though MS Query is assuming only one database and one (default) catalog, and doesn't realize that it actually connected to several databases with separate catalogs.I get the same results with Office 2003 and Office 2007.Are multiple databases / multiple catalogs through a single DSN supported in Excel / Microsoft Query?

I'm running a program where I call a function which creates a database connection and then runs a stored procedure. I call this function four times from four separate threads. I get an error (Login failed for user 'sa'. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.

I just want to know, What parameters or attributes should be taken in connection string so as to handle high traffic enterprise applications? Like in general we use server, initial catalog, userid, passwd. Some times we add timeout , and in some scenario pool etc. But i don't know what attributes should i take in as my common practice apart from above.

I have an application running with a access db. I have written some code to copy & zip the db file to another location (selected by the user) for the purpose of backup. (I am using sharpzipwrapper)Whenever I try to run the code for the copying & zipping it gives me an exception saying that the file cannot be zipped as it is use.Do I have to close all open connections in order to backup the .accdb file? If yes then how? else what do i have to do inorder to get 'access' to the file.Do I have to exit the application to close all connections? These connections are written in code for e.g. :

I am extremly new to this concept of aps.net and vb. all the tutorials I see are c# based or very basic for vb. What I have is a contact forum with some basic information. I got the whole "check if the user has input information correctly down pat how ever Its this whole, connecting to a database (sdf) if in another vb file ands calling that method into aspx file and proessing forum input to say "take this, insert into bla..." I come from java, JSP and J2ee bak ground where its not that diffrent and I dont have all week to read books and take baby steps. I have until tuseday morning to finsih this. Right now I am as far as forum validation....

I want to create program in vb2008 express with ms access database. Can somebody help me so i can learn how to program using classes hard coded. I have learned vb6 before but it has a big difference on vb2008.

I was able to understand visual basic 6 a bit, and i am trying to apply the coding to VB 2008 but all i get is errors. I am hopeless now and i need help to be able to start my programs. If someone can give me a sample code, i think i would be able to trace the line of code to be able to understand it. When generating new IDs as such employeeIDs, i typically let a store procedure pass the Highest EmployeeID entry to the DB and i create a class to generate a new EmployeeID based on this returned ID from the DB. In industrial based applicaiton, do they write a class to generate a new ID so that new ID generation happense in the Business classes or do they create triggers to do it so that the new ID generation happenese in the database?

I am creating an Add-In that I want to create classes and forms based on a database structure. I can't find any information anywhere on how to programatically add code to classes. I know I can write out the files and add them to a project, but that would limit what I can do in the future. I would like the possibility to update a function in the future which would be impossible writing out a file and loading the whole thing back in. It would destroy any modifications made to the class, and since this Add-In will only be creating a framework, there will usually be modifications.
I got this line from the macro recorder:DTE.ActiveDocument.Selection.text = strDACode
But I like to keep Option Strict on, and this is late bound according to the IDE. There seems to be very little help on the IDE and how to use it creating Add-Ins. If I overlooked something please point me there, but I can find nothing. I don't know if it can be done, but I was able to do it in an Add-In for VB6.I would also like to add controls to a form, so if anyone can point me somewhere where it explains

I have two classes, one nested in the other. [code]Neither "Name" or "ID" are unique between operations and records.I wish to construct a dictionary using LINQ = Dictionary(Of String, Of List(Of Integer), whereby the keys are uniqe examples of Names in my collection and the values are the collective set of distinct IDs that are associated with those names.

How can I structure my classes so that the user interfaces though a single class while the supporting classes are hidden from their view? I think its best understood in an example:
Public Class MyInterface
Public Economic as EconomicClass
Public Sub New()
MyBase.New()

So you might ask why am I even separating them? It's strictly for others who will be working with this interface. I need to funnel them though a logical structure:
interface.Economic.MyMethod
interface.Currency.MyMethod
etc
This way everything is already handled for them in the background and they only need to run the method they need. I don't know if I can have it both ways in VB.NET.

I searched araound and having some difficulties in implementing one scenario with SQL Server 2000 and sybase.I have two SQL servers on different locations naming ServerA (MSSQL Server) and ServerB (Sybase server).I have a table called SALARY.Whenever I insert one record to customer SALARY in ServerA, I also will insert it into ServerB.If should any of them failed, both of them should be rolled back.I am using Asp .Net with VB for the programming.I do not have the right to change / add table in Server B. I am developing an Application that uses TCP To listen for connections, and then when a message is sent to the server and then it alerts the IP that is running the server. (Lets say the server is on a iPhone, and some how the iPhone gets a text message, which alerts a tcp server running in the background via a .jar, it would send the owner of the iPhone a message on the computer telling it it has a text. This is just an example though, but I think it gets the general idea across. I've been trying to do this, and I can connect to a TCP Server (using 127.0.0.1:8888 for testing purposes, will move to a solid IP and Port later). I can start the server (its still buggy and under development) but i don't know how to connect to the server via an application, and when a certain message is received to alert the IP Running the server.
My Server Code is:

I have a Visual Studio 2008-SQL Server 2005 app that will be throwing alot at it. It's my testbed learning app. I'm also a student of this craft(43 years young) like another poster posted on another thread. I come from a PICK/BASIC jBase background. Anyway as-is my app has a connection to the database that is opened on form load. I close the connection on form close. It's a one form app currently. Is this wrong? It seems that maybe I should not have a connection opened possibly all day. I'm looking into incorporating Datasets, dataAdapters into my next phase of evolution. I looked at the material and it's tough. For me anyway. But I will get into it. I will fetch the data into a dataset so that I can keep the connection open only for a little while. I was turned on to this "keep the connection just as long as you need it" idea from someth
