Whats the best way to go about having the user update the product? Im using VS 2010 and the publish wizard does give me an option to first uninstall the previous version which is ideal.

Now when I read one book, I found one page telling about VB application wizard which is easier to place bars... but as i am using Visual Studio 2010 for VB, I can't find its icon when creating new project.
I'm using the Application Updates option in Visual Studio with 'Before the Application Starts' checked.Users are complaining of canceling the update and then finding out they really want the update. When they decide they want to update there is no way for them to update the application until I publish a new version, because once they cancel the dialog box it never shows up again.
Is there a way to create a menu option to force a check for updates?
Kind of off-topic... Are there any open source Application Update programs for .NET?
This application should ask the user for a percentage amount by which each price should be increased then increase each price by that amount and then display the increased amounts. I can't seem to get it to calculate the amounts. Everything else seems fine. Any suggestions, ideas or recommendations? [Code]
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to update a row via c# winform application. The update query generated from the application is formatted correctly. I tested it in the sql server environment, it worked well. When i run it from the application i get 0 rows updated.Here is the snippet that generates the update statement using reflection - don't try to figure it out. Carry on reading after the code portion:

The above final update statement works on the sql environment, but when running via the application, the execute non query runs ok and gets 0 rows updated!
I remember seeing a tutorial a while ago about making your application check online for updates..I did this a year or two ago but have since lost my example. Can someone explain how you do this or supply me with a link if you know a good tutorial?

View 1 RepliesI'm a beginner with Visual Studio and a Mac user switching to Windows. Well, I'm ready to release the first freeware title. So I go to Build > Publish (application name). And the Publish Wizard guides me through the process and asks me where to publish this application. Do I point it to C:Program Files ? The permission of this folder is set to Read-only. So I'll get an error with this path. I can successfully publish the application if I point the path to Desktop. But that's not a good location where users install applications, is it?

in the SearchByIndex() i call the fill method and i used the data to initialize the current Employee object also i preserve those values using PreserveOldValues() the i call update() and internall i pass the preserved values......However it doesnt do concurrencies and updates..

View 5 RepliesI have developed an application in VS 2010 and now need to deploy it accross 10-15 PCs. I am publishing to a server where the other PCs will download it from. Only the PC I developed it on successfully installs the application. The others install it but it will not run. As a test, I installed it from the server on to the PC I developed it on, which worked fine. What may be causing it to install but not run on the other PCs? Also, I tried copying the visual studio solution to another PC and installing it locally but when I try to debug on any other machine, I get errors with the auto-generated code that deals with the controls that appear on my form.
The Errors are:

All references from the project on the other machine are present so this is not the issue. The form will also not load in design mode. instead I get the class not registered error.
I'm tired of how to make my application stand-alone exe. I have created a small application console using C# in visual studio 2010, and I want to make it run on other computers with out having to install .net on that machines. and also make it just like notepad.exe with just click and it will run. I've read a lot of articles talking about netz or ILmerge.exe or mono which is so difficult to me to understand. and another question is how to know how many .net files or dll s that my application needs?

I'm having some trouble sharing my application to other PC users. I have tried to Build my application and Publish my application into a folder, zip it, and put it on my website for people to download, but when they try to run the setup file it gives an error message saying they need to download "Mysql.Data V 6.4.4.0", which makes sense seeing how I have a resource that uses this. Do I need to use a different method to pack my application or what? I don't quite understand how I can incorporate this into the files so the end-user doesn't need to do any other downloading than my file.

But I want to put the .swf file together when it publish.when I copy this to other computer , they can have this flash file,the loction to load will become>>ApplicationDeployment.CurrentDeployment.DataDirectory & "Resourcesfirework3.swf".
