View 5 RepliesI have a main form that has a dynamically generated treeview and also a panel control. Depending on the selection made within the treeview the panel docks 1 of three diffrent usercontrols which are full sub forms(done for ease of modifing design of sub form rather than layering panels on top of panels).Upon button click withing usercontrol i wish to trigger event within main form.For example delete button wich then triggers to remove current selected node from treeview. code for 1 of three diffrent user controls
Dim ctrlQ As New QuoteUC(TrViewQuotation.SelectedNode)
PnlSubFormDock1.Controls.Add(ctrlQ)
Code for delete button for which i need to raise event.
If MsgBox("Are you sure you wish to delete this customer ?", vbYesNo, "Delete Record") = vbYes Then
Deletecustomer(n)
End If
I'm using the Application Updates option in Visual Studio with 'Before the Application Starts' checked.Users are complaining of canceling the update and then finding out they really want the update. When they decide they want to update there is no way for them to update the application until I publish a new version, because once they cancel the dialog box it never shows up again.
Is there a way to create a menu option to force a check for updates?
Kind of off-topic... Are there any open source Application Update programs for .NET?
This application should ask the user for a percentage amount by which each price should be increased then increase each price by that amount and then display the increased amounts. I can't seem to get it to calculate the amounts. Everything else seems fine. Any suggestions, ideas or recommendations? [Code]
View 1 RepliesWhats the best way to go about having the user update the product? Im using VS 2010 and the publish wizard does give me an option to first uninstall the previous version which is ideal.
View 3 RepliesFor a small project I need the possibility to "trigger" a function in a Window-form-application from a Service. So there are 2 program's. One is the visible Form application with textboxes and buttons and so on... The other is a sort of service program that runs on the Windows Service account.
Actually the second program is a command-line tool that gets fired by a PHP script from the Apache server. Because the command-line tool runs in another "environment" then the Windows-form-App, it is NOT possible to communicate (trigger) with both apps.
I know I have to use IPC (InterProcess Communication) and I have download the dozens of sample apps, but I still can't get it to work.
PLEASE can someone give me some sample code, or perhaps sample program(s) to help me out?
I think it's really easy to build what I want, but for me it's a no-go :-(
So for example it has to work like this:
PHP script (running at Apache server) runs a "console/service" app (already working) which "triggers" (via IPC) a already running Windows-Form-app (also already working app) that for example shows a MsgBox with the text in it that is sended by the "console/service" app.
i have to develop a software for motorola mc9090 that reads barcodes and rfids simultaneously, so i need to catch two different triggers: the one on the keyboard for barcodes and the other in the backside for rfids.the problem is that i didn't find any sample that illustrates how to set the trigger to read only barcodes, i found something on emdk 2.5 samples that shows how to set the trigger to read rfids but nothing for barcodes. So when i press any trigger the barcode reader is always enabled with rfids reader.Does exist a way to manage them with separated triggers?
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to update a row via c# winform application. The update query generated from the application is formatted correctly. I tested it in the sql server environment, it worked well. When i run it from the application i get 0 rows updated.Here is the snippet that generates the update statement using reflection - don't try to figure it out. Carry on reading after the code portion:
public void Update(int cusID)
{
SqlCommand objSqlCommand = new SqlCommand();
Customer cust = new Customer();
[code]....
The above final update statement works on the sql environment, but when running via the application, the execute non query runs ok and gets 0 rows updated!
I remember seeing a tutorial a while ago about making your application check online for updates..I did this a year or two ago but have since lost my example. Can someone explain how you do this or supply me with a link if you know a good tutorial?
View 20 RepliesOkay so i made a small code that my application can check for updates onstart time. The problem is that it freeze up the application. How can i make it work faster.
Try
My.Computer.FileSystem.DeleteFile(My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath.ToString & "" &
"v.txt")
[code].....
I'm not sure how I can trigger the button in the datagridview ?? it is quite different from the gridview in web development application.
View 2 RepliesI have written an application to perform a simple CRUD operation i've used MVC design pattern... DAL was designed using the wizard. I was able preserve the olds value of teh fields of EMployee class using a seperatemethod
PreserveOldValues(){ //code}
in the SearchByIndex() i call the fill method and i used the data to initialize the current Employee object also i preserve those values using PreserveOldValues() the i call update() and internall i pass the preserved values......However it doesnt do concurrencies and updates..
I successfully coded MyApplication_Startup and MyApplication_StartupNextInstance to give my single-instance application access to the command line. It works fine. if the application is not running and the user double clicks on a filetype associated with my application, my application starts up and reads in the file that was double clicked on. That's fine.
However, when the user double clicks on another file (same associated type) when the application is already running, I then (and only then) get a warning (from McAfee in my case) that my application is requesting access to the internet. I simply click OK to allow access, McAfee goes away, focus shifts to the original instance, and that instance successfully reads in the second file.
If the user then double clicks on a third file when the application is already running, focus shifts to the running application, it loads the third file, and the internet access warning DOES NOT appear. Same with all subsequent cases.
Any ideas about why the sudden internet access warning is occuring? In all the startup and load events, I do not do any internet related things. Much later, the program will send an email, but that code is far removed from Startup and Load things.My only idea is that perhaps because I have "awakened" the normally hidden ApplcationEvents.vb file (by putting some code in there), maybe I have triggered some sort of handling of the MyApplication_NetworkAvaialabilityChanged event, even though I make no reference to this event anywhere.
Before I added the command line handling stuff, I noticed that the internet access warning would occur only once for each new build. Susequent execution of the same build would not trigger an internet access warning. So now it is as if the handling of the StartupNextInstance event is simulating starting up a new build for the first time. Weird.
One more thing. I am not deploying this over a network. I am making a simple .exe by selecting Build from the MVS 2008 menu, then running the .exe by double clicking on it from Windows Explorer. I am using Visual Basic 2008 Express on Windows XP.
I am designing a fairly small application to manage a waiting area for a clinical department. There will be a receptionist who books appointments and updates exisiting appointments to say that a patient has "Arrived". In seperate rooms will be nurses who call patients who have "Arrived" and update the appointment as "In Session" and finally as "Discharged". The appointments are viewed in a flexgrid with nurses across the top and time down the left, patient names are displayed at the relevant times and the cells are shaded a colour to represent the current appointment status ("Booked", "Arrived", "In Session" and "Discharged").
I am using SQL Server as the back-end and Visual Basic 6 (I know) as my front-end.I have been told that there will be 2 or 3 nurses plus the receptionist logged in to the system but I would like to cater for growth.My question is what is the best mechanism to use in order to reflect the status change made by one user on the screens of the other users currently logged in?
I have been thinking about using a timer to refresh the data at a set interval but I do not want to keep hitting the server excessively (although what is considered excessive? we would be talking about a call for data every 60 secs per user). Plus the server could be serving data for many other applications so this is another consideration.Alternatively I have been thinking about sending some kind of message via Winsock to the other users notifying them of data changes as they happen. I don't have a lot of experience with this and am concerned about clients not receiving messages and users seeing old data. It also seems strange to me that once the days appointments have been retrieved from the database that "in theory" a client could go the whole day without having to query the database again to pick up changes - kind of scary.Some information on the data:We would probably be looking at around 100 appointments per day We capture patient name, date of birth, date and time of appointment and appointment status.What is the standard approach / best practice for this kind of scenario?
I am currently working with a vb2010 front end with access as the database. everything works for accessing the information adding information. But when I try to edit/update the contents of a row I find that the update is being applied to the first row of the table rather than the target row. i have tried using the ID as a way to specify the row i want updated but that doesn't appear to work.
UPDATE ExamContent
SET Question = ?, ExamsText = ?, [Answer 1] = ?, [Answer 2] = ?, [Answer 3] = ?, [Answer 4] = ?, CORRECT = ?, LastEditUser = ?, LastEditDate = ?
[code].....
I know there are several ways to publish updates but I would like to know the best way to do it. What I already have configured is a shard network folder which I intend to have the program update from there. What would the best way to publish updates to the folder be?
View 1 RepliesIn the following code, TextBox5 reports conditions while the mouse is moving over the form, and TextBox7 reports only when the mouse has STOPPED moving over the form. When I start the program, and move the mouse from outside the form, onto the form and don't stop the mouse, the coords continually update in TextBox5 as expected. When I then stop the mouse, TextBox5 clears and TextBox7 reports, "Mouse Hovering", also as expected. Then if I start moving the mouse again, TextBox7 clears, and TextBox5 starts displaying mouse coords again, as expected.

does anyone know the actual code to put into the my.settings file for this? or something like that I saw it in a post now I cant find it again 0_o .
View 13 RepliesI have created a Trigger in VS2009 in VB.net. I have used a SQL Server Project. Now I have successfully created this Trigger:
' Geben Sie fr das Ziel eine vorhandene Tabelle oder Ansicht ein, und heben Sie die Auskommentierung der Attributzeile auf.
<Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlTrigger(Name:="myTrigger"
, Target:="users"
[CODE]...
Why does the first method below work? I would have thought that the variable 'row' is completely separate from anything else, such as a row in DataTable1. Also, is there a drawback to using the first method? For changes to lots of columns in a single row, I'd rather do it that way.

I got the printing. Now how can I allow users to update the database, such as Add, Change, or Delete records accordingly? Then I am finished with my project.
View 1 RepliesAlright, when I open my program I want it to check for updates and if there is an update I want it to download. So far I have a text file saying the most recent version and then it downloads that file and compares it to the current file version. If the current file version < recent version then it will download the file. :O Can someone help me with the code? :3 I have a hosting server with direct download links.
View 5 RepliesI'm unsure of how realistic it is for this to work but I know a lot is possible in vb. I have an application called WindowsPRO available from my filesharewebsit This application is intended for those in school to easily be able to do several daily tasks such as calculate and use notepad within one window. I have been working on this application in part with the help of MSDN.Back OT, currently when I click the "Check for updates" I use process.start to open my website. Not very complicated is it. What I want to do is open a form in whichchecks for the update from my site. Whenever I upload a file, I'll upload it as a .zip onto my site and always name it like: "Application name v1.0" or whatever the version number is. That is the only thing that changes.
When the user presses the check for updates, I want to checkhe site in background for a "higher" version number. If my application is v1.2, I want it to check for anything higher than 1.2. So if I have on the site 1.2.2, or 1.3, I want it to check for the highest number version and download it.My question simply is, how do I check for a "higher version" from a website?
how to check if a field( a cell within a database for talk sake date of birth) has been edited in the past then flag it now this field may not be change for a year but how do i keep a record of that and the flag it if it is change.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to create a form that uses controls that are bound at runtime. All the data objects are declared at the form level. The Select statement includes the two fields that make up the PK form the table. The Owing_Company data displays in the bound control. I can change the text and in Save_Click the RowState is Modified and Row!Owning_company has the changed data. DsForm.HasChanges is False. A simple call in Save_Click daForm.Update(dsForm) does not change the DB. If I update the Row!Owning_Company in code dsForm.HasChanges is now true and daForm.Update changes the data. What am I missing that allows changes made via the bound control to modify the DataSet?

I have a Form with textboxes and a datagridview, the textboxes are to fill a new row in the datagridview but in stead it is updating the first row, the following is my code

I'm using a DateTimePicker (.net).Is there a way to update the value only when the calendar closes?Or is there a way to know when the calendar open/closes?The DateTimePicker is bound to an object and this object check the dates and pop a message box when needed. When the user is browsing for a date, the message box appears. I only want this rule to execute when the date is chosen
View 1 RepliesI don't like to build myprogram to a click-onceapplication becauseI lose the .exe and I don't know how to edit it after building it. So unless someone this, here is my main question:I was thinking about updating a .txt file that have uploaded somewhere that has the current available version. Can I use streamreader for an online file? And if so, if the available version is updated, how can I edit the code and everything to updatethe file?
View 14 RepliesCurrently converting the infamous Windows Update VB Script examples to VB .NET so that I can have a more polished GUI for our end user's as we have to nofity them every step of the way when installing updates (so the built in WUA interaction is not viable for us).
Converting from VBS to VB .NET seems to be more troublesome then I estimated, FYI I am no a full time .NET programmer so I might be making newbie mistakes!!!
So here is the VB Script example from MSDN for searhing, downloading and installing Windows updates using VBS:

We have a VB web application that for some reason breaks when some clients run Windows Updates. To resolve the issue we have to force the application to recompile on the servers where the application is installed. In some instances we must do this multiple times and/or restart IIS as well to resolve the issue.
This didn't start happening until October of 2009, and then suddenly it happened all the time... but not for every client, and not with every update. It continues to happen and we have been at a loss to understand why. Is anyone else experiencing this issue or found a way around it? If there is something in our code that we can alter to keep this from happening I would love to know about it, as we spend time and resources troubleshooting and resolving an issue that doesn't exist until a Windows update runs and our application becomes un-usable until resolved.
