I have a text box on my form where a I would enter a string of text which will replace the '1111' to whatever the string is in the text box field.
So for example, On my app, in the text box field, I would enter 2222, then when I click on button1, it will rename file1-1111.doc to file1-2222.doc, file2-1111.doc to file2-2222.doc, etc.....

I need a small app that randomly shuffles a set of preloaded numbers. The shuffling will be visible on the screen and goes on continuously (looping) until a key is pressed and as soon as that happens it will show the winning number.Am using visual basics 2008 to develop the application but my problem is when i start the app and hit a key it will loop through my numbers on the text file and it will also display the event but if i hit a key to stop it will not stop..I was workin on the app but my problem is how to stop the loop and resume on the with a keypress. below is the app codes.

How do I disable the background compiler for Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2008?
For my sins, I have to work on a large VB.NET project and it often locks up for 20 seconds at a time whilst doing the very helpful background compilation

I am just wondering how I can add Direct X references to Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2. I cant find them in the .NET reference list, or the reference list, or anywhere. I downloaded the Direct X SDK for August 2009, but I can not add the .dll files to the reference list. Is there anything I can do to add them? I need the references for programming reasons.

I have Visual Studio 2008 Professional and I'm trying to make it so I can click a button to send the application to the System Tray and then click the icon in the System Tray to make the application come back.

when the user clicks on the add button another form launches, which enables the user to add student info such as name, address, course, start date and end date, this information is then written to class when the ok button on that form is clicked, and then displays the data on the initial form in data grid. the user can add multiple entries and they are all displayed on the intial form and a the data grid is populatedwhen any of the rows in the displayed grid is selected, and the update button is clicked then the same form launches as the previous one and but this time its in the update mode and pre populates the form with the inital values.

I am now asked to create a .net application and I'm trying to create a "Hello World" starter app. I opened my Visual Studio, click File-New Project and all I see is Business Intelligence Projects and Other Project Types. My step-by-step guide says choose Visual Basic, Windows Forms Application. But I can't see it as an option.

I'm currently using merge fields, and the code below to fill specific fields in a Word Document, but now I've run into a situation where I need tabular data pushed to MS Word. View 3 RepliesI have 2 applications, "Application A" and "Application B" In application B, there is a loop that do some work Now, from Application A, I want to control this loop, in application B, so the loop gets run once each time Application A say so Up to this point, There is no problem, I just created a Mutex that I pass from an application to the other.
The problem comes when Application A want to stop the game -If application A terminate its thread without closing the Mutex, Application B does take it and the loop goes on non stop. But what I want is to exit the loop.I can immagine 3 ways to terminate the loop, but none of them apears to be the good way to do
1) Closing the mutex in application A. This will create an exception in Application B, which I can catch to terminate the loop
2) Create a custom windows message for Application A to notify Application B that the mutex needs to be close so Application B can exit the loop and close the mutex. ( However, I am using a mutex to avoid to use this windows message pathern, I do not want the UI thread to be involve in the mecanism )
3) Create another mutex that would be own by application A and that will be blocking another thread in Application B. This way, Application A by releasing this mutex can permit this other thread to set a boolean flag telling the thread in the loop to exit the loop.
To illustrate this, I made this short code. It implement the option 1) which is using the exception to exit the loop

I'm trying to just get a VB.net app to be able to execute a lua script in a external file, and be able to add some functions to lua too, To do this I have this code:

But it errors on the register function, saying "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Do you know of a example VB.net project that uses lua? Or know how to fix this?
